Breakfast Topic: What classic loot would you want to see upgraded?

I didn't, since I played a Druid then, but I sort of wished Druids could use it, just for the look and the back story if nothing else. Fast forward to today. We're looking forward to Patch 3.2.2, which will bring us level 80 Onyxia, complete with upgraded versions of classic loot from the original raids. Alas, there's no upgraded Ashkandi in sight. This sort of bums me out, I'd love to let my Death Knight swing around a big old dragon emblazoned sword like that.
But hey, I have hope. Cataclysm's revisiting parts of the old world, so maybe we'll see more upgraded versions of classic old world loot. I may have that Ashkandi for my Death Knight yet. So here's my question: What old piece of loot would you like to see come back with upgraded stats for the max level, and why?

Cookie's tenderizer!
'nuff said.

Oh yeah! totally forgot about that, with Heroic Deadmines we may just get a bad-ass lvl85 rolling pin!

I'd like to see them bring back faction based pvp gear. The old 60 pvp gear was just awesome.
Ametrine Aug 30th 2009 9:51AM
Atiesh. Without question, Atiesh.
But no graphics upgrades. It's fine as-is. Medivh, the greatest mortal sorceror ever, didn't need a fancy-ass staff with floating glowy bits everywhere, so why should we?
Eyhk Aug 31st 2009 10:32PM
Having Atiesh has fancy graphics, three crows start flying around you every so often. Here's a screenie: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42046648@N06/3876853396/

Ah. But what I meant was, the staff itself is rather simple and plain, not huge crystals or funky spikes or othersuch knickknacks crammed everywhere.

The Ashbringer and Atiesh the Greatstaff.

I'd love to see updated vis'kag and deathbringer with the new Ony raid. Never got either on my fury warrior which always made me QQ.

Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17718). Wait, you say you've never heard of it? It drops from an optional boss very deep in Maraudon, so of course you've never seen it... It's the stereotypical Goblin shield, complete with rotating gears and such. With the introduction of playable Goblins, I'd love to see this shield come back, or at least another one or two with its model.

Force Reactive Disk?
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18168
But sure, I'd also like to see a more epic version of those two shields.
Garviel Aug 30th 2009 7:11PM
I've heard of it and had it at one point, I loved the way the outer disc spun.
Hagen Aug 31st 2009 10:32AM
You mean stereotypical Gnome shield. Gizlock's is a very cool shield tho, I believe I still have it banked. I was a big fan of Drillborer Disk and remember having that on my Warrior. Now I have a recolored blue one on my Paladin for healing in Zom's Crackling Bulwark.
Lava Dredger has a couple of other versions of that model in game already. I wonder what Mr Smite's L85 heroic hammer looks like :)
thebitterfig Aug 31st 2009 10:39AM
No, I mean *Goblin* shield. I play Horde, and see them with these every time I take a zeppelin. The colors are a little different, but it is the same model as the Hypertech Buckler: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=16096
That said, I will allow that there might be gnomes out there who use the same basic design, but it is and always will be a goblin shield to me.

Scaling Legendaries does sound pretty good. I don't know a whole lot about raid loot. What I'd like to see is an upgraded opening experience with quests designed to actually prepare a hero for the big, bad world outside. As with Death Knights getting equipped for what they'll be facing, new, from scratch, level ones could, and I think, should get fully geared in some decent greens. It wouldn't be game-breaking, but it sure would be nice not to have to wait 20 levels just to find a hat or some shoulder pads.
Clbull Aug 30th 2009 10:18AM
How about a revamped version of Ahn'qiraj (Maybe with an improved map, new bosses, the Ruins of AQ tuned for 5 players and the Temple tuned for 10/25 players) with much of the AQ loot (including armor sets, weapons, Dark Edge of Insanity etc.) retuned for level 85 players?

Dragonbreath Handcannon please!

Agerath Aug 30th 2009 10:33AM
None of it. I want NEW items, dammit, not 10-poly models from yesteryear.
Matthew Rossi Aug 30th 2009 12:23PM
Okay, I want you to look at any gear that drops in Ulduar or ToTC. I'll even help: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47069#screenshots
That's Justicebringer, an entirely new model from ToTC 25.
Compare that to Ashkandi, the image in today's post. Tell me that it is a better model than Ashkandi and I, and pretty much anyone else, will laugh ourselves into unconsciousness.
Agerath Aug 30th 2009 1:09PM
Laugh away, Rossi—Ashkandi is just bizarre-looking. It's the sort of thing my brother would have doodled in his sketchbook fifteen years ago....I never understood why people were so fond of that model.
Yeah, I'd take Worldcarver over Ashkandi, frankly, and as much as I love mine, I'd still take Legacy of Thunder over Quel'serrar—ditto with Staff of Endless Winter over Anathema/Benediction.
Personal choice, though. If taste makes you 'laugh yourself into unconsciousness' then I think you need to take a step back and really analyze what you're doing with your life.

The only problem I see with all the "retuning" and updating all this old stuff is that eventually everything would have an endgame version, and then it'll start get to BC stuff. I'm not straight up complaining; I've never seen most of this stuff, as I only started playing WoW shortly after Wrath hit. I mean, I'd love to see an 80 or 85 version of the Fiery War Axe, and all this stuff is awesome. But if they do it too much, it's just a bit ridiculous.
Definitely hope they revamp Legendaries somehow. It simply doesn't make sense that random Doofy Mace of the Fatty +108 Spirit Northrend Green is better than bloody Sulfuras or Thunderfury.
