Breakfast Topic: What classic loot would you want to see upgraded?

I didn't, since I played a Druid then, but I sort of wished Druids could use it, just for the look and the back story if nothing else. Fast forward to today. We're looking forward to Patch 3.2.2, which will bring us level 80 Onyxia, complete with upgraded versions of classic loot from the original raids. Alas, there's no upgraded Ashkandi in sight. This sort of bums me out, I'd love to let my Death Knight swing around a big old dragon emblazoned sword like that.
But hey, I have hope. Cataclysm's revisiting parts of the old world, so maybe we'll see more upgraded versions of classic old world loot. I may have that Ashkandi for my Death Knight yet. So here's my question: What old piece of loot would you like to see come back with upgraded stats for the max level, and why?

I don't know how many weapons from BC would have the same sort of nostalgia that old world weapons have.
Also, the underlying motivation might not really be there. Azeroth content needs an update, and updated weapons make sense to go along with that. I don't know that they would ever retune BC content to the extent they are doing Azeroth. While BC certainly had some stylistic complaints, the experience of it is much, much tighter than the original game.
The old world has several zones that just plain did not work or were never really finished. Which is fine, really, since Blizzard has shown a remarkable ability to learn from their early design and improve greatly on them. In the somewhat tedious Gelkis/Magram quests in Desolace lay the seeds for the Aldors and Scryer, and subsequently the Frenzyheart and Oracles. Painful zone layouts, like Azshara, led to much slicker zones with multiple flight points found in BC and Wrath.
This brings up an interesting question: what are the things they absolutely need to fix while revisiting Azeroth? We already know that Desolace and Azshara, two relatively unpleasant zones, will get significantly redone. Orgrimmar is apparently being redesigned.
I hoping (and expecting) that Quel'Thalas and the Azuremyst Isles will get incorporated into the rest of Azeroth rather than being on a separate server. One zone I really hope they revamp is Winterspring - the most beautiful zone in the original game, but quests are limited to a goblin town that doesn't really have any reason to be there, and the questlines are mostly unmemorable as a result. And Feralas definitely needs an Alliance camp on the mainland...

I won't be surprised if that island is now underwater in Cataclysm anyway. After all, flooding is supposedly going to play a big part in changing the landscape.

THUNDERFURY
If you don't go to Hyjal and get that weapon again I will be sorely disappointed.

The Ashbringer...

You mean the sword that was never loot in the first place?
Malkia Aug 30th 2009 11:14AM
This is kind of odd, but I would like to see a lot of regular loot upgraded. Some of the textures are dated and ugly compared to the newer armor out there, even with graphics settings turned up high.
Wulfkin Aug 30th 2009 11:19AM
With Cataclysm precipitating masses of rerolls, this strikes me as a very reasonable request. Spending your first 80 levels wearing ugly mismatched clown gear doesn't make you feel like a hero.

I know they're going to be reworking a lot of the quests. I really can't wait. I love leveling alts.

The Re-Forging of Quel'Serrar by far.. and with Onyxia back.. it would be a perfect time to stick it to her again for a newer version.. BRING BACK QUEL

The priest epic staff Benediction/Anethma (sorry spelling, just got up)
Well actually, I would love to see a return to epic class quests for all classes. With the move towards phasing and enjoyable solo content (DK starting area for a start) It would fit with the current game philosophy.
Make it really difficult.. Heck, maybe even make it require guild support because of the new system (as in guilds participating, it doesn't have to be raiding). The final reward should be something that is the same iLevel as either the second "tier" maybe half an iLevel lower, but perfectly itemized per class (if the class is a hybrid, have the item have different "phases" like the priest one did), so if people are unlucky in drops, they have something to help them in harder content.
If people are to lazy/not enough time to get the item, there will still be plenty that drop in raid, but I think rewarding someone for doing a quest that will test their understanding of their class is a good thing.

If I see a dk holding ashkandi I will cry.
Don't even mention that possibility

Billionthing Benediction/Anathema. XD I still pull that thing out when I want to look special.
Olathe Aug 30th 2009 12:12PM
You'd be able to do that?! Awesome!
Oh man the possibilities.

Cruel Barb please.

I'd love to see Quel'Serrar upgraded. I always thought it was an amazing looking weapon.
Also, some of the old class-specific things, such as Benediction/Anathema, the Skyfury Helm, etc. As the poster who mentioned the Skyfury Helm said, getting these items was often considered a sort of rite of passage for your class, and I'd love to see more like them, or see them upgraded, even.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18835 For sure. Best looking bow in the game!
