Cataclysm Worgen and Goblin starter zone maps

Both of the maps have a couple of unique touches. For example, both have images of their inhabitants on it. The Lost Isles map has a particularly ugly female Goblin in a bikini while Gilneas features a human in Victorian garb. The latter also has a couple of shredded bits as if a Worgen adventurer had used his or her claws when trying to read the map. The Goblin map features a scattering of indented gold coins at the corners, as if to hold it open. Both are awesome little touches that add that special bit of pizazz to the new zones.
But the maps do give us a proper glance at what we can expect from the two zones. Gilneas is dominated by Greymane Manor and the town of Duskhaven. Looking at it, I was expecting something a bit larger, but then you remember it is a starter zone. The Lost Isles is smaller still with an Alliance encampment to the North and an Orc settlement to the south, which explains their presence in the trailer.
We should note that the Gilneas map is only part of the Worgen starting zone. The city and the Greymane wall are due East of what's presented.

Both of the new races have extremely phased content up to level 5, similar to the DK starting area.
The area to the east of the Worgen map is the actual Gilneas zone that you see on the map today. Also, the actual starting Goblin area is Kezan, which gets destroyed/flooded during the beginning quests, leading you to Lost Isles. Im not sure if the Worgen starting area has something similar, but it definitely starts to flood because of the cataclysm and will look much different by the time your done the area, before you move on to Gilneas proper.
Of course, the Goblins will not have a city, since its probably at the bottom of the ocean now, and the Worgen city of Gilneas WILL be ingame, but as a Battleground. From the WoW panel, sounds like a King of the Hill/Arathi Basin where you battle for control of different city districts.
Lorewise, im sure Gilneas is swarming with worgen now, and those who havent yet lost all traces of humanity managed to escape and be saved by the druids. Only the brave would dare enter that city again, especially with the risk of further spreading the curse.

Wait, what? It damn well better not be a BG, thats was gonna easily be my new SW. I'll be pissed if the make into GTA Worgen Town Wars or something pfft.
Mike Aug 31st 2009 5:23PM
@Sev The City of Gilneas is indeed a new Battleground in the expansion, sorry to say.
Taladan Aug 31st 2009 6:50PM
@Sev, @Mike: More like "Wintergrasp meets Quel'danas"
It seems it will be a daily quest hub, much like Quel'danas was in BC. But, in order to do your dailies, your faction will have to control the city, in a fight that happens from time to time like Wintergrasp.
Suzaku Aug 31st 2009 9:44PM
@Taladan: You're thinking of Tol'barad, an open world PVP zone like WG. "The Battle for Gilneas City" is a battleground.

I hope they develop unique quest lines for Worgens (about a same problem for Goblins) in Outland. As far as I know in WoW lore, worgens were not part of the Alliance in the 3rd war and unknown when the dark portal was re-opened. It would be odd if the honor hold people find that they have to fight along side with some werewolves.
Scyren Aug 31st 2009 4:41PM
They didn't seem to mind the Death Knights, though.
Shippleton Aug 31st 2009 4:55PM
Actually, as said in the post itself, that's only part of Gilneas as a whole, the rest of it's to the east. It's prolly a type of quarantine to seperate the Gilneans who lost their minds when they worged-out and the PCs, who didn't, which would explain the King and Queen's Gates.

Hm... Crowley Orchard...
Does this make anybody else think about Ozzy and his Mr. Crowley song?
RogueJedi86 Aug 31st 2009 5:25PM
It makes me think of the Occultist Alistair Crowley that Ozzy was singing about. Believe it or not, Ozzy did sometimes thing about things that were already existing. Also news: Ozzy didn't invent Iron Man.
Galaden Aug 31st 2009 5:28PM
Dude, calm down, I knew. It's just that I first heard of him through the song, so the name reminds me of it more than anything.
Galaden Aug 31st 2009 5:29PM
Meant to reply to my above post

For the slow kids.
I, wont, be, waiting, INSIDE, the, starting, area, idiots.
Also, tons, of, horde, PLAYERS, will, be, rolling, alliance.
As for blood elves, jesus, you can have em!
RogueJedi86 Aug 31st 2009 6:42PM
Where will you be waiting if you won't be inside the non-city Gilneas area?
Them hordies say they'll be rerolling, but do you actually believe it? Even the most diehard Hordies have said they'll at least try the Worgen starting area, just like everyon rolled a Death Knight.
If the Blood Elves left the Horde, there'd only be 5 players left. Look at the WoW Census on Warcraft Realms, the Horde is like 70% Blood Elves now, at least. Enjoy your loss of the Blood Elves with the 5 Hordies left.

Is weird, but Gilneas doesn't look like a peninsula or its profile on the main map, am I missing something?
Scyren Aug 31st 2009 7:01PM
You might also notice that Gilneas City isn't there either. This is only the bottom corner of the peninsula.
Suzaku Aug 31st 2009 9:43PM
These maps are just the "zoomed in" level 1-6 regions of their starting areas, while they are progressing through the phased portions of their quests. When they join Azeroth proper, they will use the regular maps of Gilneas and the Lost Isles, which cover level 1-15.
It's similar to the Death Knight starting area, where they have a map of the Scarlet Enclave with a sketch of a Death Knight and skulls on the edges, but after exiting the phased portion of their quests they enter the Eastern Plaguelands, with Scarlet Enclave only a subzone on the edge of the map.
You can see the rest of Gilneas on the edge of the Worgen map, and you can see a second, larger island on the edge of the Goblin map.
censorman Aug 31st 2009 7:10PM
If blood elves represent 70% of the Horde and there would only be 5 players left (I quad box, btw), that means there are less than 20 Horde players total! Wierd... Shouldn't you be doing homework?
As for hunting furries, you missed the point entirely. It's okay though, roll one on Ravenholdt US and post your name here. We can be friends! :)
RogueJedi86 Aug 31st 2009 9:39PM
You know you can reply to yourself to keep this conversation in a single reply thread. Since you made the original post I've been replying to, you'd still get your e-mails about me replying. Instead I have to scroll down and find where you've made your latest post, since it's not in the same reply threads.
I'm 23, no homework to be done. Maybe you should look a little word called exagerration. There are obviously more than 5 non-Blood Elf Hordies, but the Blood Elves still make up the vast majority of the Horde these days. I dare you to find a single grouping of Horde players that doesn't have a Blood Elf.
I can't roll a Worgen, Cataclysm ain't out yet if you didn't notice. Besides, Lethon US PvP is where I roll.
TheChao Aug 31st 2009 8:00PM
You're refering to Tol Borad, the island off the coast of Gilneas
