Scheduled maintenance for Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Topping tonight's list of things over which to get your knickers in a twist, Blizzard announced its weekly scheduled Tuesday maintenance window for US realms tonight. Some realms, under the cut, will have an extended maintenance period, ostensibly to complete the new server hardware additions that alleviate or resolve instance-launching errors. Good news for everyone -- even us, because maybe now we'll stop getting tips about it!
Maintenance will begin for most realms from Tuesday, September 1 at 3 AM PDT/6 AM EDT and conclude at 11 AM PDT/2 PM EDT.
For realms under the cut, extended maintenance will run from 12:01am PDT/3 AM EDT and end at approximately 11:59am PDT/2:59 PM EDT. In the meantime, you can check out our Cataclysm coverage, read up on Goblins or Worgen, emote beleaguered sighs to @WoWInsider on Twitter, or read the list of realms below, which may take you just as long.

You do realize that the servers are in entirely different geographical areas and it can be very difficult to organize a mass upgrade of at least 30 servers?
Benjen Sep 1st 2009 3:39PM
Thats true Alamos being that it is only the early 90s and there is no information highway connecting the world. Maybe someday multimillion dollar corporations like Blizzard will be able to overcome this tremendous obstacle of managing servers that are not in the same room. BTW could you hold the onions on that Burger

You do it, then. If you're such a master at organizing a multibillion dollar company with a million dollar franchise, YOU fix all of these server problems. YOU upgrade each and every one of them. Fuck your hamburger, this is Warcraft.

I'm from Thrall. Wanted to pose a question to anyone concerning this maintenance and an issue that seems to be plaguing our server: Has looting, spell casting or general UI interface been lagging for anyone else lately? It's been a huge problem on our server and I'm really just hoping that this maintenance alleviates this problem. It's a real pain when you have to wait 10 seconds to loot something every single time....

We were given that lag after the last maintenance on MalGanis. No problems before the maintenance, 5-10sec ui lag after. AND we still get the additional instances can't be launched error. If you think it will be alleviated dont be dissappointed if its worse, and they have to bring your server down for restarts and all that fun stuff that goes with tuesdays.
ON TOP OF THAT, the servers on the list stayed down for another 2 hours after the rest came up, with nothing said. Just a forewarning, anyone on the list still has like 5-6 hours before they get to play, talking from my last weeks experience, which, has been as copy/pasted as blizz's "we have a problem, come back in an hour" messages.

It's just ridiculous....We haven't had instance problems since last week fortunately..*crosses fingers* but that's exactly when the UI lag started. It seems recently that every time they fix something, they break another.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, we've already gotten the "we've experienced an error in our maintenance and had to increase the time by 3 hours" message. I tried to race it here. I wonder if it's a little like the one they experienced last week while trying to do THE EXACT SAME GODDAMN THING!? they couldn't plan for the things to go exactly the same as they did last week while they encountered the same problem. GG Blizz.
BTW my server was on the list last week, it didnt come up until 2 hours after the rest without any warning or hourly copy/paste updates. so if ur on the list, they still mean your server wont be up until after the rest by the same time margin.

I'm on Earthen Ring, and I can't wait for the instance servers to be fixed.
Horde-side...30-40 minutes of ramming my head into a wall for instances, Alliance-side, no issues. And I play Horde more predominantly! Gogo blizz!

EDIT TO MY LAST POST:
Im going to go ahead and say it a week in advance. Next week, maintenance will be a hardware upgrade for the rest of the servers who havent seen it yet. 20 mins before uptime some1 at blizz HQ says something like this "HOLY FUCK!!! IT HAPPENED AGAIN!! Get on there and extend the maintenance another 3 hours like the last 2 weeks. AND DONT FORGET TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR PATIENCE THIS TIME!" that would make 3 identical maintenances in a row. lets see if encountering the same problem twice in a row will make them plan for it next week, or if theyre gunna take a big spoonful of the same B/S on the same spoon, and fly it down our throat while making airplane noises again.

This problem is incredibly bad on the Moonrunner server, it's so hard to get into instances that you will sometimes see 50-100 people waiting outside of the H daily. I'm glad this is going to be fixed, I hate wasting time clicking W,S,W,S,W,S....

Not sure why it takes all freaking day to do maintance. One minute it down until 11:00 then the next moinute its done until 2:00pm pst and the you go back in and they say another hour...It's funny that they never take any money every month when they are done for 12 hours. It just amazes me how long it take them to do this. And lately it has been once or twice a week. They need to get it together or start charging less money every months.

Thunderhorn isn't fixed after today's maintenance. Still portal bouncing. Spent an hour doing it before today on a normal instance attempt. Don't feel like doing it again.
