WoW Insider Show Episode 105: All medicated up
Our podcast took to the airwaves yet again last Saturday, and it was what you might call a rollicking good time. Turpster and I were on, and we welcomed both Alex Ziebart and Michael Sacco back to the show, to talk about BlizzCon last weekend, our experiences with the expansion's new starter zones, and why Deathwing is actually a great choice for the Cataclysm's bad guy.And we answered your emails, including information about PvP vs. questing XP, our meetup (and the trip after BlizzCon to Disneyland -- you can check out some pictures of the trip in the gallery below), and racial bonuses to tradeskills -- how they work and what they'll look like in the next expansion.
Was a great time, and you can hear all about it on the podcast below. If you have anything you'd like to tell us (either about something you heard on the show, or something you didn't hear us talk about yet), feel free to send an email to theshow@wow.com, and you might hear it on the show next week. Enjoy.

Yeah, totally have to do a retraction on this on the next show :P We are all too old school since this used to be impossible, Just seen the way in which people get to Dalaran at level 1.

Thanks a ton for addressing my question on the show-- I still maintain the +tradeskill racials are less-than-useful.
You guys pointed out that some things require over the maximum level -- like skinning The Beast in Vanilla WoW. As far as I know, there isn't anything that requires over the maximum from BC or Wrath and even the +skinning required for The Beast was available from +skinning enchants. Certainly not 'exclusive' to a race for their +skill.
I know the +skill stays with you the whole way through but it doesn't save you making the last few expensive things; it saves you from levelling the first skill points.
An example:
-A brand new goblin starts with alchemy lvl 15 and begins making http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=3170 , with skillups slowing around 80, more or less 65 elixirs later.
-Meanwhile an orc with no +racial makes 15x http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=2329 before he starts along the exact same path as the goblin. His skillups also slow around 80 after 65 elixirs. At the end of the profession, they have made all the exact same things when they both hit 450 save those first 15 cheapos.
If Cataclysm includes racial-exclusive profession items due to the +trade racials, I'll be really excited and sorry that my draenei doesn't have JC.... A useful racial might be a +10% chance to get a skillup in X profession but I maintain as these are now they're relatively useless.
Please-- correct me if I've got something wrong.

I have a gnome engineer and basically what happens is that his engineering is always 15 skills higher. What that really means is that while all engineers learn a specific item at 400 or whatever, it greys out 15 levels later, which means you may be able to skip some really painful spots in leveling. I have a draenei JC and the small bonus they get is enough to bypass some late-200 skill grinds.

"I know the +skill stays with you the whole way through but it doesn't save you making the last few expensive things; it saves you from levelling the first skill points."
You have got it backwards: the +skill racial does save you from making the last few expensive things. My gnome has +15 to engineering and that made the levelling for that much easier.
Your example is wrong (I guess because you are saying what you think happens, not what actually happens). The +15 skill allows you to learn and make recipes earlier, but does not change the skill ups granted. The skill ups work off your level without the racial bonus. In your example you say the goblin will start to have slower skill ups around 80, when in fact it would happen around 95 (ie the level he would be at without the racial bonus).
My gnome is at 451/460 engineering, has the chopper schematic, and the gnomish army knife recipe is still orange to him (at 450 it should be grey), which shows his actual skill of 451 is treated as 435 for skill up purposes, but 450 for recipe purposes.
The racial bonus DOES save you from making the last few expensive things, not the first few cheap things

The run between the alliance cities is not hard at all now. From Ironforge to the Exodar: Take the deeprun tram from IF to Stormwind and then take the boat from SW to darkshore and then just take the boat from there that goes to azuremyst isle. The Wetlends run does not exist anymore...unless you actually want to go to Wetlands (seriosuly they need to put a boat that goes there from a lowbie zone, as it stands you can only get to menthil via boat from theramore or howling fjord)

ohhhhh-- So the level at which recipes go green is *not* increased along with your +5 JC? That makes a little more sense, being able to milk a particular recipe for an extra 5 skillups; like you said, bridging a difficult gap.
Thanks a ton for clearing that up for me!

Oh. Oh god. The photos. You guys crashed the photo-stamp maker!
Also, how many badges did Turp have to trade in to get that hat?

Metzen seems to have retconned the adamantium armor plates and they are now iron plates.
I was a little suprised to hear that myself. We'll have to watch to see if this was just a mistake

I love you guys but please fix your audio quality. I just can't listen to this. It makes my ears bleed.
