Excerpt of the Stormrage Novel available online
I already mentioned that there's an excerpt from the upcoming Stormrage novel in the back of TokyoPop's Warcraft Legends Volume 5 manga, but if you're anxious to get yet another glimpse before February 2010, you're in luck. Pocket Books has posted a new excerpt over at their site, and all you need to grab is an email address. The excerpt doesn't reveal any new lore per se, but it does tease pretty damn well, and should bring up some pretty nostalgic memories for a lot of Alliance players. Combine this with the excerpt from the manga, and you'll get a pretty good idea of where the story's going, I think -- Right into the Heart of the Emerald Nightmare, as we confirmed with authour Richard Knaak at BlizzCon a week ago.
As to whether it will cover the Cataclysm, or not, that's a bit up in the air. However, considering we know that Malfurion will be back in the waking world fighting Ragnaros at Hyjal, chances would seem to be good.
You can check out the excerpt at Simon and Schuster's website.

Surprise! A whining horde player.
Dart Sep 1st 2009 9:18PM
God forbid a Horde player speaking up about the lack of Horde novels.
I mean, clearly horde lore just isn't cool.

i think if you are carring over faction rivalry to the extent you demand 1 to 1 parity in relation to fictional reading material you are probably taking things waaaaaaay too far.
apart from anything else most of the books you would refer to as 'Alliance' deal with faction neutral characters (Tirion, Medivh, Rhonin, Krasus, The Lich King and yes even Malfurion)
these books are written for Warcraft lore fans.
such fans aren't generally steeped in the playground like rivalries you are endorsing.

I think you need to get out a bit more often.
You're not actually a part of the Horde.
Peacebone Sep 1st 2009 11:23PM
@ Miko
I enjoy Warcraft lore as much as the next guy. I just really don't care about Alliance characters or their stories. /shrug
@ jam
good thing there's a detective here.

You no take candle!
I--DON'T--WANT--YOUR DAMNED CANDLE!
Eberron Sep 1st 2009 9:40PM
Am I the only one who thought, towards the end, he was probably wishing he'd taken candle?

I'm STILL lol'ing at
You no take candle!
I--DON'T--WANT--YOUR DAMNED CANDLE!
Looking good so far. Also for horde players... what was that about tauren paladins who used to be druids? There's bound to be something related in the book.

On the one hand, yay lore.
On the other hand, it requires suffering through Knaak's godawful writing.
... graaah. I just wish they'd let Christie Golden write everything.
Peacebone Sep 1st 2009 11:23PM
I know, right? Knaak's writing it, so don't be surprised if there's dragonz up in there.
miko Sep 1st 2009 11:29PM
dont forget the sentient raptor armies!
qoa Sep 1st 2009 11:45PM
As opposed to men in love with horses? If you do the quest chains in the barrens they actually say the raptors are intelligent.

as far as the complaint of the lack of horde books available most of you seem to forget about books such as "rise of the horde", "Lord of the clans". "cycle of hatred" granted is more neutral in the sense that it does have alliance characters in it (i.e. Jaina) but there is more horde lore in it than alliance. "tides of darkness" and "beyond the dark portal" again fall into the same boat as "cycle of hatred". There is a good chunk of alliance lore in them but there is equally as much horde lore in them. People are so eager to complain without bothering to think about what they are saying first.

This runs like a badly written, professionally edited piece of fan fiction.
laudre Sep 2nd 2009 8:41AM
That describes pretty much all of Knaak's Warcraft novels. I can't speak for anything else he's written, though; my memories of DragonLance fiction are colored by a pleasant haze of adolescent naivete that I don't wish to disturb with reality, and after reading what I have of his excrement, I can't bring myself to read anything else by him.
mihai_thats_me Sep 3rd 2009 2:33AM
The Plague of the.... KOBOLDS!!!!
Anyone else feels that the Cataclysm quests in Elwynn are gonna be epic? Epic in a undead kobold-ish way!
P.S. - Soapy, if a book is badly written, than ok, tha author is guilty. It means the authos is bad. If a book is well written but you are convienced that it's all the editors merits, not the authors, than it means that you have a little problem.
