MMO Roundup: Last week on Massively
Sometimes you'd like to know that there are other MMOs out there, right? Our sister site Massively can provide you with everything you need to know about all those other shiny MMOs! Check out this roundup of the latest news from the wider MMO world.
| EVE Online announces Dominion expansion, 'Walking in Stations' renamed Incarna CCP Games has announced their 11th free expansion for EVE Online, called "Dominion." As the name suggests, the winter expansion focuses on territories and player control over them. We're told that the Dominion expansion focuses on conquering and holding space, and will feature a reworking of the sovereignty system of territorial control for player alliances. |

| Meet the Massively team at DragonCon '09 As we are just now recovering from BlizzCon and GamesCom last week, we realize we're not even close to being through the summer convention season yet. DragonCon in Atlanta, GA and PAX in Seattle, WA both start next week, and you can bet there are more than a few of us at Massively who will be attending these major conferences. |
|
| SWTOR's Sith Warrior detailed, cataloged Gamescom provided us with plenty of information on the newly revealed Sith Warrior class for Star Wars: The Old Republic. So much is already known, making the newly revealed official web page feel like a safe place to keep all that information rather than a source of geeky revelation. |
|
| Devs spill the beans on LEGO Universe Wired.com's GeekDad blogger Curtis Silver has taken some time to sit down with LEGO Universe's Producer, Ryan Seabury, and the games development team. The lengthy interview was posted earlier this week and really gets under the skin of this odd little MMO. Silver also snagged two new exclusive screenshots and states that "LEGO Universe will bridge the generational gap between geek parents and geek kids". After all, who doesn't love LEGO? |

| Ten things to know when starting Champions Online Every time a new MMO launches, there's always a good list of things that wouldn't hurt for a new player to know, and Champions Online is no different. We're all about making your first steps into an unknown game as grief free as possible, so check out Syp's list if you're interested in such a proposal. He's got a very good rundown on things you need to know when entering the tutorial zone. |
| Star Trek Online preview a solid overview of the game Massively has been following along with the development of Cryptic Studios' upcoming Star Trek Online, and we're seeing that more previews are being written about the game in recent weeks. The latest preview is from Eurogamer's Keza MacDonald, who recently spent some time checking out Star Trek Online. It's a nicely worded look at the game as it exists today, an MMO title where "Cryptic is creating a flexible yet faithful interpretation of the Star Trek universe that stands a good chance of living up to even the unrealistic expectations of the faithful," writes MacDonald. |
|
| Green Lantern coming to DC Universe Online "In brightest days, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light!" If you're a comic book fan, then chances are you've heard this at one time or another. If you're a Green Lantern fan, then what's more likely is you say it at every opportunity you get. But let's face it, life doesn't really offer many favorable circumstances for reciting the Lantern's Oath. |

| Snafzg returns to WAR (week three): Tearing up tier four "Tearing" as in "ripping", not "crying." Not yet, anyway! Welcome back to this little journal series documenting my one month return trip to Warhammer Online. Part one laid the ground rules for what I hoped to accomplish and part two shed a little light on the tier two experience on Iron Rock. Part three (this part) will recap the last week I spent on Phoenix Throne as my rank 40, renown rank 45 Squig Herder named Snafzg. |
|
| Rumor: The Old Republic to have player housing? Player housing seems to be an oft requested feature for generally any MMO, but the last place we expected to hear rumors about it was for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Granted, this rumor stems from a BioWare employee at Gamescom being a little too tired and letting "housing" slip as one of the many features of the game. Of course, it's also just as likely that said person was so tired they simply misspoke. |
|
| Fallen Earth beats out Aion in D2D sales last week While most other MMO news sites are pointing out the fact that Champions Online has taken the #1 spot in Direct2Drive pre-order sales, and Aion's Collector's Edition is in 3rd place, we couldn't help but notice that Fallen Earth's pre-order sales seem to fit snugly right in the middle at the #2 spot. |

Oh man, two non-WoW posts on the same day. You're gonna give people heart palpitations!

Hey, I don't mind reading about other games/MMO's. Hell, I LIKE other games and MMOs, but on other websites. This is www.wow.com not www.othermmo.com, and as much as I appreciate your spreading the love about games X, Y and Z - this is not the website for them!
I'm sorry if I sound like a picky nancy, but honestly, get the hint, if we CARED, we'd go to massively out of our own free will! Plastering adverts here is pretty cheap play, IMO. Heck, I know your job, paychecks rely on it, but isn't a hyperlink enough, or ONE mention instead of repeated ones? Like I said, if people cared, one mention'd be enough.
Rant over.

They've always done an MMO rap-up on this site. It's just linking to another site, it probably took all of 10 minutes to put together, so it's not keeping them from writing other articles. They're just giving you something to do during extended maintenance.
Stop whining.

This column is really nothing BUT hyperlinks to those other articles on Massively. Massively is their sister site, so giving them at least one post to send people who are interested to their articles...it's not that horrible. WoW.com isn't going to change to "othermmos.com" just because of one RECURRING column. This site is always going to be about WoW and WoW culture. And honestly, other MMOs are kind of part of WoW culture.
Honestly, ranting about this is just asinine. MMO Roundup has always been here and it will continue to be here. If you don't like this column, don't read it. I, for one, enjoy this because Massively isn't part of my blog list, so I wouldn't be able to see stuff like Champions Online or TOR news without someone reminding me that blog exists.

Then don't read it.
