The Queue: Deconstructed
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
For a brief moment, I considered embedding 10 Minutes of In The Mountains in place of the XT-002 remix, but come on. That joke is already dying a slow death, and I don't want to be the guy that puts the last nail in Thorim's coffin. I'll leave that to the guy that made the video. No, today is an XT-002 day. It helps that the Deconstructor remix is actually good.

"Do you think the faction transfer will allow us to carry over heirloom items in order to help level our Worgen/Goblins?"
Do I think so? Yes, I do think so. I'm not sure why they wouldn't let you carry over something you rightfully earned, especially in an expansion that seems to want to encourage you to roll alts and see the world all over again. Saying something like, "No, you cannot take your heirlooms with you" seems pretty discouraging, rather than encouraging.
That being said, what I think Blizzard should do and what Blizzard thinks Blizzard should do could be two completely different things. They might decide to not let heirlooms carry over via faction transfers, or they might even do something weird like temporarily disabling heirlooms for awhile after Cataclysm to make sure people see the content at the proper speed. That would be awkward as hell though, so I figure they'll just let you use 'em.
bryterside asked...
"While playing a Tauren, why does it seem like they move slower than the rest of the races?"
It's a scale thing. Every race moves at the same pace, so if you're incredibly large it feels like you're just lumbering around really slowly. In comparison, if you're playing a little race like a Gnome, it feels like you're zipping around faster than should really be possible on foot. Tauren and Gnomes move the same speed, but Tauren have a larger stride than the Gnome. So they feel very different, even if they aren't at all.
str1fe asked...
"What are the zones that look to be less affected by the Cataclysm? We know of The Barrens, etc, but what remains stagnant?"
I imagine very little will remain completely stagnant. Places like Westfall and the Ghostlands and Bloodmyst probably won't be rent asunder like the Barrens, but I have no doubt that they'll be seeing some changes. The storylines in those places have come and gone, so putting a new spin on the Westfall Defias or the Ghostlands Scourge might be a good idea to keep them relevant.
Whenever the Cataclysm beta rolls around, the WoW.com team will wash over Azeroth like locusts looking at how the world has changed, and we'll bring you as much information as possible... probably in the return of Ask a Beta Tester.
bgman123 asked...
"Are the Battlegrounds that are based on the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor going to change once the Cataclysm happens?"
They might advance the story of them, but I personally doubt they would redo the entire battleground or scrap them in any way. Why toss out what works? Would there be any gain in getting rid of Warsong Gulch or altering the terrain? Not really. I think it's far more likely that the world will just put more importance on those battles. Warsong Gulch was sort of a stalemate for awhile... but can the Alliance afford to screw it up there anymore? With the Horde taking Ashenvale, that might be the last foothold the Alliance has in the region. The Silverwing Sentinels might be the last Night Elves standing in Ashenvale, and it's up to us to keep them standing. Who knows?
Of course, this is Cataclysm. Blizzard is redoing quite a bit. They just might toss out Warsong Gulch and give us a new Capture the Flag battleground in its place. We won't know until they tell us or show us.

"Hey WoW.com, just wondering what your favorite in game lore event is, that's not the Wrath Gate or Battle for Undercity."
I loved the Scourge Plague event that was held before the launch of Wrath of the Lich King. It was the most fun I've had in WoW in an extremely long time. It had some flaws (such as Shattrath's Sanctuary buff protecting the undead) but overall, I loved it. It shook up the gameplay and put you in situations you would almost never be in normally. I also play on an RP server, in a guild that has an abundance of Paladins that do raid content. So what did we do? Naturally, we gathered up all of our Black Temple/Sunwell geared Paladins, specced Retribution, and dedicated hours and hours of our day to clearing the Plague out of Stormwind. Even people in the guild that don't normally roleplay came out to do it and felt really immersed in it. As the plague got worse and worse as the event went on, watching people who don't normally roleplay have their characters start to doubt themselves, wonder if what they're doing is futile, and all of that? Incredible.
Also incredible: Seven Retribution Paladins popping Avenging Wrath while charging into a ghoul-infested Cathedral of Light and clearing the entire place out before the wings faded.
Kikirowr asked...
"How is babby formed?"

"What happened to "Patches of Yesteryear." I think that's what it was called."
It hasn't died, but it's one of those things where Adam and I are two of the site's editors so if we hit a busy period, we're two of the first to drop off on posting because we get bogged down with a lot of behind-the-scenes work. It will come back when things slow down a bit. You've probably also noticed that The Queue has been pretty infrequent lately. Same with The Daily Quest. Same reason for all of those. Things are crazy busy behind the scenes, so the usual stuff that Adam and I do slip a few notches down on our list of priorities. For example, going through hundreds of Warlock columnist applications was pretty high on our priority list this week and took up a large chunk of time. This busy period won't last forever though (I hope), and all of the things that the two of us do around here will come back. Promise.

Haha, I love that song so much. I have it in my iPod.

Maybe its just me, but what is so interesting about hearing "in the mountains" for 10 mins ? Is this just some new meme that the kids of 4chan are trying to bring in ?

you be trollin, mon?

Does anyone have any screenshots of what the newly transformed Azshara will look like, and more importantly how the new goblin settlement will appear?
Meethan Sep 1st 2009 7:41PM
The new Azshara temple can be seen on the sight. The goblin City is probably still in the making.
Babaloo Sep 1st 2009 10:04PM
Shaolin Showdown FTW!
Wulfkin Sep 2nd 2009 8:06AM
I'm assuming the Goblin city will be based at least loosely round the ramshackle building look you see in the Goblin wallpaper on the Cataclysm site. It looks suitably steampunk and also new and cobbled together as befits a race that just washed up there.
The Last Sand Merman Sep 2nd 2009 2:12PM
I only hope the Goblins don't crap on the place. Azshara is, in my opinion, the most beautiful zone in the game, and I'd hate to see it full of ugly constructions (as much as I love the goblins and their wackiness).

Gah, stupid double post.
Ailian Sep 1st 2009 7:55PM
In the mountains, double post doesn't happen. :)

Oh my god, the song is giving me goosebumps but I can't stop listening. @_@

It's my best guess that plainswalking was originally introduced to tauren primarily to address the perceived slowness of the class.
Jack Spicer Sep 1st 2009 7:56PM
No, it was in there because the developers originally weren't going to allow them to use mounts.
Jean Sep 1st 2009 7:45PM
When I take the flight path from River's Heart, that rickety old helicopter seems slower than any of the other taxis I might take from another location. Is it *really* slower, or does it just seem that way?
Sicadastra Sep 1st 2009 7:58PM
I have an addon that shows movement speed and according to it, yes that copter is slower. Likewise the dragon FP from Amber Ledge is significantly faster than most. Servers still down so I can't log in to tell you the exact % it gives for each though.
Qot Sep 1st 2009 10:40PM
The worst part is that the "flight time estimator" is always way off. I'm usually coming back to my chair with 0:00 remaining and still half a zone away.
Cam Sep 2nd 2009 6:07AM
@Qot You could download a flight TIMER, it would record the time it takes and countdown from the recorded time.
Hakker Sep 1st 2009 7:46PM
were there any plans at blizzcon for x64 or Dx10 support in cataclysm?
Lokasenna Sep 1st 2009 7:48PM
What exactly do you mean by x64 support? My wife and I are both running WoW on Vista 64 with nary a hitch.
