From the makers of
WoW Achievements comes a new site that's designed to collect and catalog nothing but screenshots from the game.
WoW/Screenshots (clever) is a new site that's super barebones right now -- all you can do is view a few different uploaded screenshots or jump in and
upload your own. But obviously, there's a lot of potential there -- if they can assign a rating system to screenshots, then you could have a
Wowbash-style
Top 100, with extra cool shots to check out from around the game. The website also says they're planning to put together monthly contests as well, so right now the idea just seems to be to populate the database, with the best entries coming to the top later.
Of course, this isn't the only project designed to archive some of Azeroth's beauty -- we talked about the wallpaper project the other week (though that's more a project designed to hit every individual zone), and of course
our great Around Azeroth daily feature has collected tons of great pictures from the game. But this seems like an interesting crowd-sourced way to do it, and
with the WoW-Achievements folks behind the idea, it'll be fun to see what they come up with.

when will the site be cell phone friendly? 2 min 3.5g loading time with ducked up titels isnt fun :(

we'll certainly work on this, it would be great to be able to use a screenshot as the background for your phone or whatever else you'd like to do with it.

Ugh. I think my sites' name is way better and looks a lot nicer. But it's not open to the public yet :( Looks like I'm going to have to work on it a lot more now. www.epicscreens.com

Um...you can buy magnets and mousepads of the screenshots on that website. Isn't that kind of...frowned upon? Honestly, I won't be uploading any of my own screenshots to a place where someone else can make a profit off it.
I haven't looked around extensively, however, so maybe that's an option you can check when you upload?

"Kinda" frowned upon...that's putting it mildly. The C&D crew has been out in force on people who sell merchandise with anything from WoW on it - whether they created it themselves (if it matches too closely something from the game) or use Zazzle (such as with these guys), Cafepress or whatever.
http://www.blizzard.com/us/legalfaq.html has this to say:
Can I make and sell my own products (T-shirts, card games, models/figures, etc.) based on a Blizzard universe?
No. Blizzard Entertainment® does not enter into licensing agreements with individuals. To ensure the quality of all Blizzard products, all of our merchandise is created under a licensing agreement and all prospective licensees are thoroughly reviewed by Blizzard Entertainment before a license is granted. If you are a company that is interested in creating licensed merchandise and your company is looking to pursue a corporate licensing relationship with Blizzard Entertainment, please contact Merchandiselicensing@Blizzard.com.

That's what I thought, I just wasn't sure how to put it, so I went with "frowned upon." :) Thanks for the info, though! Hope other people read the comments.

Well then, looks like we won't be selling mouse pads or magnets :)
But either way thank you Wowinsider for the feature, and thanks to the two first posters for posting your own sites in here... very classy of you :)

Would be cool if a contest would reward the winner with a companion. It should be a gnome with press-card in the hat, cottoncoat and camera running around taking pictures whenever you click on him (or her!)

Something I've wanted to build but never had the time (or know how to monetize it). So this is something that you might throw onto the ideas board.
* Add region or marker notes - similar to Flickr / Facebook - where you can say hey look here for xxx
* Add timing transitions for moving markers - with a slider to control the timing or set it on repeat loop.
Suddenly you have a system to describe how to move about during a boss encounter. It's like one of those war-maps where the raid leaders plan troop movement.
* If you can work out how to allow it to be embedded into various guild bboards that'd be even cooler.

Wow so if I spend an hour on a site and 10 bucks for a web address could I get some crappy site featured on WI? I mean really... This site has hardly any pics and you cant even scan through pics while looking at one like with a next button or clicking on the pic. WIs image viewing system is a lot better than this 10 minute blog based on viewer submission.
Spend some more time at your site and learn the coding/legal issues before submitting it for advertisement and WI either dont buff up a friends site or actually look at the links before posting.
Mep Sep 2nd 2009 8:07AM
So easy to criticize isn't it? :)
Fact remains that WI put it up because they see the potential in the site (which has only been live for 3 days btw).
It must be difficult to live in a world where the need to criticize others is so hard to resist.
Trust me, there's a reason our other site was made an official fan site, and this site will be no different.
P.s... I really do pity you.
Autumnn Sep 2nd 2009 8:43AM
Now you are just being silly. Don't try to pull your 10 year old pity crap with me.
First you tried to get away with reselling copyrighted material. Blizz cracking down on WoW related material for resale has been all over the internet. If you payed any attention to other bloggers/fan sites you would have seen posts about this and , for some of them, post of them taking down Cafepress type merch of Blizz items.
Second, you dont really have a site yet. Anyone can spend a few hours on a site and then do nothing with it. I have almost 900 screen shots on my photobucket account. You could have spent some time taking some good screen shots and beefed up your site before trying to advertise it. I let my blog run for 4 months before I told anyone about it. I spent time posting, doing graphics, and writing how-to's to make sure once I did advertise it people would see something that was in full production instead of a work in progress.
Get some more of your own screen shots up and work on the photo viewer before trying to get people to bookmark your site. Using Google Image Viewer or searching Photobucket is more useful than your site is atm.

Someone needs to be monitoring pictures before they get posted. I go there and someone filled up over 3 pages with a penis. Haha but what about all the little kids being exposed to that. Not cool.
Mep Sep 2nd 2009 6:23PM
Yea... we noticed... it's surprising how many people managed to see that within about a 5 minute span... we added security around it so that will never happen again.
sorry :(
it was a weird looking one too wasn't it ?
