Ghostcrawler on the Path of the Titans

He clarifies the idea more later in the thread as well. The different paths of the Titans are meant to be class-independent, but GC says that they do want players to debate which path is best for which class, even if they do end up with a "best" solution in the end. Archaeology is meant to be a part of it, so GC agrees that it could be more of a mandatory secondary profession than Cooking or Fishing has been in the past, but they're aware of that danger. And just because the paths may be tied to dailies or instances doesn't mean they'll work the same: the time in which you can progress might be longer than the daily quest limit or shorter than the weekly raid limit. The idea, as above, is to give players who don't necessarily raid or PvP something else to do with character progression at endgame.
Should be interesting to see what they come up with. Personally, this sounds a little bit to me like D&D's prestige classes -- not nearly as powerful or varied, but a way of separating your character out from the rest of those that chose the same class you did. That's just me being hopeful, though -- Blizzard seems to have a lot of development before we see this as a finished product.

If this system doesn't work as they'd hoped and they take it out, will YOU remember the titans?!

"Yes, we are all individuals."

The problem with EJ specs is that you get the people who won't let you go into the raid unless you're using that spec to T. Those are also the same people who expect 500 resil for a premade bg match. Now granted that will become more important with rated battlegrounds but for right now it's pointless.
My beef with EJ is people think you HAVE to take that spec or the raid will wipe. It's only a game.

Agreed.
7/57/7 is boring.
11/55/5 is where it's at!

IMO: PVP and raiding seem to be the only viable options for end game. Sad. This path of the Titans could possible be really neat, but is still only a step towards end game raiding/pvp. Guilds could very well require a full and 'correct' path for applicants. Instead of character customization, it seems like just another layer of compliance. Have the right Titan path for your class/spec, or be doomed to mediocrity forever! You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake!
I loved the attunement quests of vanilla and BC. I thought it was a shame when they were removed. After the key for Karazhan wasn't required, tons of toons in quest greens flooded the thing, and the story behind it was all lost. The quest lines were great, they awarded cool customizations like the titles (Hand of A'dal, etc..). With the richer quests that we've seen in WotLK, couldn't some really cool epic 35-long quest chains that reward choices of titles/mounts/non-combat pets/tabards be better?
I know that Blizzard wants more content available to more players, but do all the players have to have it all at once? Why not even do attunements for lesser dungeons? Long quest chain to open up specific heroics? They're opening up Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep as heroic dungeons, so can't they give us a cool attunement quest to explain why we're going back in there?

I also miss the long attunement quest chains. Getting the neclace to gain access to Ony was an accomplishment and I was really sad to see it go away.
Your comment at the end made me laugh though. There almost was an "attunement" chain of sorts to deadmines. But what made me laugh was the thought of 100 lvl 85 toons spamming Westfall general chat "Has anyone seen the defias messenger?"

That wikipedia page for prestige classes made my eyes hurt. I'm glad Wow isn't that complicated.

Together you and 4 of your undead druid buddies can combine to form B-00-MK-1-N. The ultimate killing machine... able to drop level 85 elites in a single GCD!
Glad to see I'm not the only one that had too much coffee this morning =)

The funny part is if you read the whole post, he said he decided not to buy gold and to have a more oganic experience, and he never said the site. 300 bucks for 800g though? He was getting scammed XD

"The idea, as above, is to give players who don't necessarily raid or PvP something else to do with character progression at endgame."
Finally. I've wanted this since the beginning. If this is 1/5 as interesting as the Death Knight starter quest chain, i'll be glued to the PC when the expansion comes out.
I was going to wonder aloud if Archaeology would be a pain at level 80+, with maxed characters having to travel around all the lowbie areas collecting things (which is why my DK has not advanced any of her professions -.-;), but then i remembered that the world will be changing in the Cataclysm, and this the perfect excuse to explore the new old world. WoW may be fun again, once the expansion is released. It'll be nice for semi-soloers to have something to do at 80(+).
Now, if we could just get some 2-man content...
Neinball Sep 3rd 2009 6:00PM
Along the same vein I'd be quite content with more 5-man content. I like that they are putting 7+ boss in some of the new instances, something we haven't seen since Vanilla days. Not sure I want a full BRD run per say but I remember usually dedicating 2 hours to a full clear of some the old world instance before I started raiding, gives the instance a little more flavor and chance at telling a story then a 20min burn through CoS.

So does anyone know if archeology will have any use before lvl 85? Are there any other details out there on its use besides for path of the titans?

"Personally, this sounds a little bit to me like D&D's prestige classes -- not nearly as powerful or varied..."
Don't play much D&D 3.5 do you? Any Min-Maxer, from the Character Op. forums or not, worth his salt knows prestige classes are a necessity to become so over powered in D&D that if we were to translate it into WoW terms you could solo a 25-man raid...by one hitting the bosses. Frenzied Berserker or Pun-Pun anyone?
Cannedhero Sep 4th 2009 4:09AM
nice idea, but bliz makes 1 mistake....
Character progresson strengthening is only good if you there are also new/harder challenges to overcome. else its pretty useless to increase your strenght if you can already beat anything outsde raiding...
