New Shaman totems in the expansion

Good news from Kisirani for those who like a little variety in their Shaman classes -- she confirms that Dwarf Shaman will indeed get brand new totems to throw down rather than the Draenei or Tauren models in Cataclysm, and hints that all of the Shaman races, past and future, will get a little differentiation in the sticks they stab into the ground. Unfortunately, she also confirms that Dwarven totems aren't kegs (that right there would have gotten me to reroll as a Dwarven Shammy first thing), but whatever they end up being -- my guess is something rock and/or hammer-esque -- I'm sure Blizzard's artists will make them look cool.
For Trolls, you have to think they're going to go voodoo (they'll probably use the Troll totems already in the game). Orcs, it would have to be something primitive -- maybe leather strung across a bone stand or something like that. And of course Draenei already have their own custom totems, and we don't really have enough of a hold on what the Goblins are like yet (trust me, we don't -- the race I played at BlizzCon was very different from the neutral race we know right now) to think what they'll have.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.I do have one request, though: can Shamans finally, finally get a totem weapon? Make it a mace, make it a new weapon type, make it a single-use item, whatever. Technically, I already used up my wish for Cataclysm (we got Heroic Deadmines, thanks very much), but an actual totem to swing around would be extra nice.

The mace from ZF http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9639 The Hand of Antu'sul kinda looks like a totem =)

A totem weapon would be cool. Personally, I just wish for better mail itemization.

Throwable totems is awesome.
I was just telling some people the other day that would solve enhancement shammy issues with have to run out and drop totems and losing dps.

Oh man, a totem weapon would be so sweet. Shaman was actually the first class that I decided to play, when I started WoW. I adore the class. And, one of my favorite parts of the original WoW cinematic, is at the end, when the Tauren Shaman slams down the totem in your face, before the video ends. I remember getting chills, when I watched that part. :D

good idea with the totem weapon!
add a totem mount and a summoning totem, and u got me really happy :)

Totem mount... = a giant pogo-stick
Wulfkin Sep 3rd 2009 11:23AM
I always thought it was a shame there isn't a totem weapon - in WC3 they were the Tauren's signature weapon, slamming them down and doing awesome damage. There should at least be a 2 handed totem mace a as a Tauren racial weapon.
On the usbject of custom totems, long overdue I'd say! So sad that i'll be leaving my long-loved shaman to reroll a Goblin Warrior....

Heck, they mock us with the Tauren Warriors in Hyjal wielding those same totems against the scourge. We know the models are in the game. You are right, it would be awesome.

Good thing "little" things like these are getting more updates. With upcoming goblin and dwarf totems old horde totems would look very outdated graphically. Of course old totems are cool and bring memories to every leveling shaman ("bop bop bop") but change is good as we know from druid forms. Lot of things seem to change now, basically everything thats left is warlocks demons.
Oh and offtopic. Wonder what kinda pony will tauren paladins be riding.. hmmm.. "crusaders warkodo" with "shiny plate"..*shudder*
theRaptor Sep 3rd 2009 11:34AM
"crusaders warkodo"
That is the stupiedes.......
WANT NOW!
And put in collision damn it! It would be so epic slamming into the enemies line riding a fully armored warkodo.

It is great, I like it when my game is fleshed out a bit more. I'm also excited about rolling Dwarf shammys. Might even pay for a race change with my current Draenei main. and since you went off on a tangent, here's mine.
On a seperate note: one class/race combination that completely mystifies me as to why we wouldn't see it is Worgen Shamans. OK think about this with me. Wolf people (Worgen) + Elemental/Wolf Spirits? Why not? Shamans can turn into and summon wolves. Some how I don't think this would be beyond Worgen plus with all the elemental upheaval we're going to see in Cataclysm most races would want to take up being Shamans. Even the Worgen in Shadowfang Keep have wolf pets that share the same skin as Shaman's feral spirits. Instead we'll be seeing Goblin (which is cool but makes no sense what so ever) and Dwarf (Which does make some sense) Shamans. Bringing the Horde up to four races who can be shamans and the Alliance up to two. Don't get me wrong I'm excited about all the new classes and races but don't you think having 3 races on each side able to be Shamans would have been better, Horde as it is and Alliance with Draenei, Dwarves and Worgen (for gods sake). End rant.

All of the classes are now balanced as to the amount of classes available to each race. I checked and the number of tanks/healers is also the same. No to Worgen shamans.

For Goblins, I see something with gears, sprockets and a stick of dynamite.
Seaborn Sep 3rd 2009 11:48AM
I agree. I am really surprised that Goblins don't have a + to engineering skill. Kinda weird imo.
Also, all the expansion news is great and all, but its still really far away. Will be interesting to see where the headlines go from here.
I have a few friends that are "planning" what they are doing for the expansion. Seeing as how faction changes are possible and new races. People talk like its dropping at the end of this year.

@Seaborn
It's because Gnomes already have Engineering Specialization...they wouldn't give two different races essentially the same racial, and the +Alchemy racial is probably a reference to the Goblin Alchemist mercenary hero from WC3.
mtsadowski Sep 3rd 2009 3:17PM
@Seaborn
Goblins having Alchemy KIND of makes sense. Here's how I see it: Goblins love to blow stuff up. Blowing stuff up requires a lot of chemical reactions. Alchemy would fit that.
Seaborn Sep 3rd 2009 4:09PM
I agree with you both that the alchemy part makes sense. I just think since there are two specialized paths in engineering, Gnomish and Goblin, that some kind of props would have been given in some sort of way. At least the two are not the same faction should they issue it to both. Or make is so the gnomes get the +skill if they go gnomish, and the goblins the + if they go goblin. If either decide to not go the engi way, give them alchy. Just a thought.

I think this looks a bit like a totem, although it probably isn't. More likely it's just for lighting, but I can always dream :)

I think throwable totems could be fun. Like a Molotov Totem that does fire damage to enemy and friendly players alike! OR! Rubber totem, makes players bounce when they jump while within 15 yard of the totem! A totem that summons a ghost weapon like the DK's or something would be neat. How about some just fun and totally useless totems? A DANCE DANCE WOW totem that makes you dance in random ways! Maybe a camo totem that kind of stealths you! But most of all, BEER TOTEM FTW!!!
