Power upgrade may affect select realms
Blizzard has just announced that a facility where some WoW realms' servers are located will be undergoing a power system upgrade tomorrow, September 4th, from 8 AM Pacific to approximately 6 PM Pacific.
They do not expect the upgrade to have any effect on the realms in question, and they say that they will be working to make sure everything goes smoothly. Of course, the unspoken follow-up here is that there just might be some issues. If you play on any of the realms listed after the break, you might want keep in mind that you may encounter some choppy waters tomorrow, and possibly a full shutdown.

Its all part of blizzards master plan for you to get a server transfer, mixed in with a faction change, name change and whatever else they can sell you! Soon you can even buy GC's pony from the acount management page!
OR
Im being a typical wow fan and reading to much into this

For some reason that screen shot reminds me of a Family guy scenario, with the Big "DO NOT PUSH/PULL" sign and the poor little gnome avoiding temptation....

I am affected [Anub'Arak], and my response is summed up pretty nicely by the current 'Around Azeroth' screen. /facepalm

Looks like the Seattle Datacenter to me.
Probably one of the other customers installing something new...like the servers to handle Windows 7.

no it's not seattle data center, cairne is a central time zone server, so it'd be more likely austin, though it may be half austin and half seattle, so emberstorm battlegroup and 1 other

You do realize that the realms internal clock has nothing at all to do with its physical location right?
It's definitely Seattle, and only Seattle.

Expect cloud and thunderstorms in-game.

Oh, I'm sure new hardware is so horrible.
Stop the whining, really. Blizzard hosting entire continents as one giant zone was impressive when the game was released, and since then the game has grown tremendously. People complain that their server is always going down or new instances can't be launched, but an upgraded Power Supply, which is likely for future upgrades or for the new instance server set-up, oh no, the downtime! Blizzard is clearly just doing it to piss you all off, they don't want to upgrade the servers at all.
This will fix more problems in the long term, and upgrading a power supply probably won't make the servers come crashing down.

Last time they did a hardware upgrade, it took them two days. One day of extended downtime, and the day after to fix their hasty installation.

@Avan
This isn't Blizzard making the upgrades. The company that owns the datacenter Blizzard rents space in is making the upgrades. They'll have a better reaction plan in place in case something goes wrong.

WTB a new powerstrip for Crashridge.
Kanap Sep 4th 2009 8:00AM
And the QQ'ing begins! Oh yeah i forgot most people sleep now huh? Oh well I do understand the plight of the extra downtime but it is a needed evil.

Woot, I'm glad Quel-dorei wasn't the only server with these problems. Now I don't have to be in a waiting queue to log in!

It is the Seattle Datacenter.
My company has equipment in a datacenter that's in the same "park" - construction nearby is requiring the utility to relocate the power feet. (They are widening nearby roadways - the datacenter is a stone's throw from Seattle-Tacoma Intl airport).
If you're really interested, you can go to the support blog of one of the other datacenters in that park - Digital Forest - where they're documenting much of what's going on today for their facility.
