Garrosh is not well-liked

There are some possible lore spoilers in this one, so we're pushing it after the break. If you're not worried about hearing some crazy future lore and enjoy a good laugh at the son of Grom Hellscream, read on.
There's been some speculation lately that Thrall might be moving on to take the mantle of the Guardian of Tirisfal, and that Garrosh Hellscream will instead be given the title of Warchief of the Horde (speculation that's hinted at by Blizzard as well). But players aren't necessarily happy with that -- while the ingame NPCs of the Horde are bloodthirsty enough to put Garrosh in as their leader, players don't think his decisions in the past have necessarily been the best. In fact, Vacant on Eldre'thelas has compiled a list of 50 better Warchiefs than Garrosh, and from #5 (Hogger) to #42 ("The login dragon"), it's one of the funniest things we've read on the forums in a while, not to mention a who's who of pretty meaningless NPCs. When you think that "Sickly Gazelle" would be a better Horde leader than Garrosh, you know that faction's in trouble.
For the benefit of those of you at work and unable to access the forums, we've reprinted the top 50 list below (though be sure to head over to the forums to see the additions). "Basic Campfire" -- hilarious!

I Vote for Gamon!
Serthida Sep 4th 2009 7:22PM
Gamon has gotten to know each and every Horde citizen who has passed through Orgrimmar and taken the time to personally stab him in the face/MC him to make him dance/kite him around the AH - he gets my vote too!

Yey! Gamon!
I use a mc'd Gamon to kick people out of the inn. :P
Deathgodryuk Sep 5th 2009 1:33AM
Gamon also protected us from the Deathknights when they first ran through Org!
Andrige Sep 5th 2009 6:50AM
Gamon is such a people-person, he gets my vote at least.
And it wouldn't matter how many times you assassinate him, he'd just take it with a shrug.

I second that: he truly is the most beloved citizen, if you count the number of times players have "acquainted" themselves with him.

I love #49. High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque, King of Gnomes.
Blood and Thunder, for Gnomregan!

That one made me laugh :D

Funny this is the one that struck me as the most hilarious out of the list as well.
Id love to give that gnome a real capital :P

Thrall as the new Guardian is retarded - it's just plain lame. Replace him as war-chief, fine, but at least get a decent magic wielder as the new guardian.

Clearly the Image of Archmage Vargoth is the perfect Warchief!
breaklance Sep 5th 2009 4:22PM
I'm surprised Image of Archmage Vargoth isn't on the list, but everyone needs their own deployable warcheif
But my list for serious "peaceful" competetors goes:
1) Cairne
2) Saurfang
3) Baine Bloodhoof (cairne's son)
4) Rexxar
I'm all for the blood and guts Garrosh-leader thing though, but Vol'jin definitely can't be warcheif he's not a strong enough character in wc3 or in wow today, maybe in comics or books but I don't read those.

Garrosh Hellscream is a polarizing individual. You either Love(maybe more like put up with him) or hate him. If Garrosh gets the head horde seat, it may be a sign that Blizzard may want to lay the groundwork for all out WAR. But hey, it IS in the name of the game, right?

As a primarily Alliance player, Garrosh is IMO the kind of NPC you love to hate. So is Varian, I might add; the two are wonderful opposing poles.
WoW has long been too static, locked in a perpetual near-ceasefire (even though guilds of either faction regularly attacked the other side's capital and slew their leaders........), this conflict brings in wonderful new dynamics into this aging game.
I hope Garrosh goes batshit crazy just like his dad; Varian's only going to be too happy to join in he also, they're essentially one and the same these days. They'll walk over mountains of bodies (nevermind who those bodies once belonged to) to see the other dead.

@Jbodar: I'd imagine it'd turn out something like this...
Garrosh: There I was, holed up at the Violet Citadel, and when Varian Wrynn came nosin' around, he was getting closer, closer!
Sylvanas: And?
Garrosh: I threw a rock at him!
Thrall: ...
Cairne: ...
Vol'jin: ...
Lorthemar: ...
Sylvanas: ...So Thrall, what became of the Last Guardian?

Am I missing something? Why do so many players not like Garrosh? He's not very different from any other warchief in the Horde's history besides Thrall.
Thrall was boring as hell.
Chirri Sep 24th 2009 4:26PM
@Faar
Precisely. Since Varian's returned to SW, everyone, Alliance and Horde alike, either love or hate him. Alliance seems split between, "Aw, what a tortured soul, it's ok if he's a bit over the top," and "What a flaming dirt bag." Horde ... well, most of the ones I've seen post lean strongly toward the Dirt Bag opinion, but his personality evokes a distinct reaction from the players.
Just about every player likes or admires Thrall to some degree - on the Horde side he's sort of a shining beacon of hope and reason, and on the Alliance side, he's "The one that's not nuts." At the same time, though, he's been Warchief for how long, and yet the culture of the Horde itself has changed so very little from the Old Horde. They still venerate the old war criminals, they're pretty unabashed about it, and Garrosh can beat Thrall into paste and has enough political backing to make it alright with the New Horde.
The Horde Warchief shouldn't be someone to admire and sympathize with. The Horde Warchief should be someone to be feared and respected (if only the same kind of healthy respect one might hold for a rabid beast). Thrall's heart is in the right place, but he doesn't have the power to change who the Horde really is. (Note: The Horde are not simply green skinned, toothier Alliance, with "better" PvP skills and notorious newbie zone chat)
I don't like Garrosh. I think he's a dirt bag. I don't like Varian, either. But they're strong personalities and if you've played WoW for very long, they feel like much more immediate characters than the "Oh wow, Thrall, sweet! I can walk up to him!" admiration from afar, and "Huh, this kid's my king? What the heck? Oh. The King's missing? For how long now?" non-entities the WoW faction leaders used to be.

The Leaper gets my vote, he just rules. Though 'half a stack of peacebloom' has its qualities.
