I think the biggest thing that mages go through while leveling is the downtime. But as you level, you'll have to drink less, you'll get more powerful and have more toys. :D While I didn't think much of them when I first got them, molten armor and spellsteal have been useful and fun.
While I've always enjoyed my mage, I really started to feel great about . . . lvl 58 maybe.
In fact, being a mage is so addictive, I made a lowbie mage on another server for when my server is down. I know the tricks a bit more (such as . . . frost nova can save your life, or there are more spells than just fireball .. .) so it's more fun. But I wanted to see what it was like as a lowbie mage. As squishy and thirsty as they are, I find myself really enjoying myself.
