Yes, I went out and made a screenshot of a Worgen with
two wolf-headed fist weapons. I did this via the latest iteration of
WoW Model Viewer,
freshly updated this Saturday, September 5th to work for patch 3.2. While it has a posted warning
use it at your own risk which I thought I should mention, I should also mention I've been using it for the past half an hour with no harm and no foul. I've even been able to play with
Trial of the Crusader loot. Go behind the jump to see a Worgen dual-wielding a
Justicebringer and
Reckoning. Not that I'm obsess with Titan's Grip Worgen or anything. Okay, so I totally am. At any rate, so far as I can tell, this version of the Model Viewer is stable and working with all current models.
This update by Chuanhsing even fixed the issue I was having where all my models came out textureless. I have no idea what it was happening in the first place, but I'm glad to see it gone.
So for you aspiring (or even active) machinamists or even just folks like me who like to dress up their future Worgen character with various gear options (sadly, you still can't get them in armor) there's a new toy out there for you to play with. Yay for progress!
Go forth and do great, terrible, or just silly things, for at last you again have a tool to make it easier.

Goblin in full Warlock t8 looks so, so cool...
Been waiting for a working version of this since around the launch of Wrath. Thanks for the heads up.
Radiophonic Sep 8th 2009 5:50PM
Man that program hasn't worked in...ages.

I've been waiting to hear this news for ages!
I love WoWModelViewer just because I'm obsessed with seeing all the little details that are hard to appreciate in game. Dressing up characters is admittedly a lot of fun as well. :) I don't really use it for anything except for looking. xD
Does anyone know if the WoW Map Viewer will be returning with an updated version? I loved that one too, but it seems to be sorely out of date. :(
Can't wait to download this when I'm home from work!

I too wish it would work on mac. Up till now i usually just used the one on Wowhead.com to see this kinda stuff, but it doesen't have goblins / worgen, nor can you put on multiple items that aren't in a set on. Also, has anyone heared what's happened to it? lat time i looked something up on it it wouldent let me view it on a character. Anyone know why? Oh, and i have tried that mac one, the sitr doesen't work anymore.

This hasn't worked for me since early last year. I run the .exe and all I get is an error telling me, "This Application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect."
I don't get why it is giving me this error for WoW is patched to the current on my computer. It is a PC with a Intel Pentium 4 processor. The only problem is I don't have it officially installed on my computer. I transferred all the files over to my external when my computer got hit by a virus and transferred them back when it got fixed. Frankly, I don't want to spend the 3-4 hours to get it re-installed for the game and two expansions.

Check one of the text files that come with the software. It mentions that if you're having trouble you may need to download some software from the Microsoft website.

Hmm.... Interesting...
My question : How to build this for OS X (Mac) ?
Agerath Sep 9th 2009 3:29AM
Port it yourself.

While this was probably a troll comment, I have to agree with it. The code has been made available, all it would take is a dedicated team of coders with access to the Apple APIs and a decent compiler to get this working on a Mac. After all, if it weren't for a community dedicated to getting this to work at all, there wouldn't even be a Windows version. And do you really want to be the Mac user that says that Windows users are more dedicated to making software?
I kid, but that IS how Linux got started. Rather than kvetching all day, Linus Torvalds knuckled down and DID something about it. And other people took his work, and did something about THAT. So if you really want a Mac version, knuckle down and DO something about it.

I appear to of made the wrong impression here.
I'll expand my question :
What kind of work needs to be done in order to build a Mac version ?
That is I am perfectly willing to attempt to put it together if the source code can be ported to the Mac easily.
I wasn't asking someone to do it for me. On the contary I was wanting to know how much work would be involved getting this to work on the Mac.
Is it going to be as easy as opening it up in Xcode and clicking compile ?

Go to the model viewer forums (www.wowmodelviewer.org) and ask about the tech stuff there. All the coders for the project can be found there.
onetrueping Sep 10th 2009 5:03AM
I agree with the Baron there. The forum seems pretty open to such requests. It will require a bit more than just recompiling the code, however.
Good luck in your endeavors.

Neat - is there a new map viewer, or is that still borked?
Lemele Sep 9th 2009 5:23AM
Sadly this seems as unstable as the previous version - crashed 3 times in about 8 minutes. I have little doubt that this is because I am using Vista though!
Mike Sep 9th 2009 11:29AM
@Knyle2 I know you're just being a troll, but I didn't downvote anything, and I'll have you know I've bought both the Macs I own myself, the first one because I was sick and tired of having to upgrade my PC just for Windows upgrades to run.
Eddy Sep 10th 2009 12:33AM
I'm just sad that I have my Mac to use Final Cut to do video editing- and I can't make machinima because I don't have a PC. Something seems unbalanced here.
onetrueping Sep 10th 2009 5:05AM
Well, you could use the Mac-exclusive in-game video recording option in the WoW client. It won't be as clean-cut as Model Viewer based machinima, but it will have a more authentic feel to it.
