Widespread "Logging in to game server" errors - Updated (again)

We've had tips of a problem some players are having logging in to WoW tonight, but I can attest to it since it's happening to me as well. I can log into any US or Oceanic server except the one I usually raid on. I was on, and about to pull the first encounter in 25 man Trial of the Crusader when I was suddenly disconnected and unable to log back into the server. Several attempts to log back in later, I found that yes, I could log on to other servers, just not Norgannon, my usual home. Attempts to flush my DNS, restart my computer, my router and my modem provided no relief. I could play anywhere, save where I have characters to play. As of 9:40 pm the problem persists. So if it's happening to you, take heart in that you're not alone.
Blizzard is aware of the issue, but currently has no ETA as to when it will be fixed.
Update: Blizzard poster Claudiog says that the issue seems to have been resolved. For my part, I am finally back online and raiding as of 11:12 PM EST.
Update #2: seems that problems persist and Blizzard is asking affected players to help them lock it down. If you can post your ISP and a traceroute to that forum thread you should probably do so. We're also getting widespread reports from EU players that there are several kinds of problems with their login servers as well. We have an image of the European client's Breaking News box after the jump.
Update #3: There's now a list of affected servers. We'll include the entire list after the jump: still no ETA on when the issue will be resolved.

you know, back in the early days of WoW Blizzard would often credit players with free days play when there were issues like this. What with a number of connection / logging in issues, prolonged no more instances can be launched issues (still not fixed on our realm in EU), and week after week of extended maintenances i honestly believe Blizzard need to start dishing out some good faith to their loyal - and tiring fanbase.
Give us a free day, or two of play, before people start suggesting perhaps the activision partnership has tainted Blizzard forever.
Superthrust Sep 8th 2009 10:21PM
because of activision, they won't give us no more free days...my friend called them up and complained for about 2 hours, and got 3 days out of it. So, maybe call them?

but therein lies the problem. Blizzard had previously been far more open to holding their hands up, and admitting there were problems and that they owed players something for the hassle (lack of service that they had paid for, and demanded as a service). They earnt respect, and admiration for their humility and honesty.
now, it seems, they couldn't give a flying funk, just as long as theys gots our moneys!

I really dont mean to sound like a troll or an elitist, but I want to set a coule things straight about this revisionist history.
"Back in the Day" the game would be down for days - no occasional logins, no 'try 20 times until you get in' - Just down. There was no time refunds, there were no hourly 'here's what we're trying' updates. Patch Days were crash days, and servers were constantly overloading. The whole reason blizzard even has a realm status page is because you used to need it.
Day refunds are somethng that became a common-ish tool in the middle of the game's life, and have been given out as recently as the Wrath launch. The game having funky issues for 4 hours on a tuesday night does not equal an entitlement to a free play day. (Market value of fifty cents american, by the way.)
Joyous_Oblivion Sep 9th 2009 2:25AM
Market value $0.50? That's huge when you have to issue the same credit to 11+ Million players.

etcee, i'm going to disagree with you there. I was rolling up a whole host of smaller issues in to one which, in my opinion equals the kind of issues we used to see in vanilla wow.
When people on our realm cannot get in to instances between 6pm - 12am, which to be fair is all you do end game. When week after week we're getting extended, or multiple maintenance windows with no improvement in service. When we're seeing multiple instances of logon / authentication issues which outright prevent you from playing the game. When all of this is happening within the same billing month..
that's when someone from Blizzard needs to show some good faith, not just when there is a cataclysmic fault like the one you described. (I actually don't remember the one that affected the wrath launch, but yeah, i get what you mean).
to be fair, the whole hubbub hasn't got me up in arms like most people, who will claim "i will cancel my subscription" at the drop of a hat. That kind of behaviour seems counter productive, and more than a little childish. Rather, i just think that Blizzard's proactive approach to owning up to faults, and keeping the userbase happy has all but gone away, and no one else seems to have noticed.

On my server, we were getting in alright, but zoning times were huge. 5 minutes to go from an instance back to Northrend, for example. Widespread loot lag and such.
Cyanea Sep 8th 2009 9:58PM
It's common. Had a guildie drop out in the middle of a raid for almost a half hour.
Jerome Sep 8th 2009 10:10PM
Paragon has world first on Heroic Anub'Arak. Saw it on Guildox and confirmed by mmo-champion
jorge_av Sep 8th 2009 10:26PM
And...? So because Anub'Arak has finally been killed on EU servers, people cannot log into US servers. Why didn't I think of that?!
islandstyle Sep 8th 2009 10:35PM
I guess servers were down for a moment of silence for Anub'Arak? That would be priceless.
Zhiva Sep 8th 2009 10:24PM
Can we please have ONE SINGLE WEEK without errors? :/
Nick Sep 8th 2009 11:15PM
That's like saying "Can this machine, which has 1 million gears, not have to be lubed every week!"
Neirin Sep 8th 2009 10:27PM
blue poster on page 12 of the forum thread says it's fixed for those interested.
mysticalos Sep 8th 2009 10:34PM
Additional servers cannot be launched.
Eli Sep 9th 2009 1:36AM
Do you play horde-side Norgannon? Because I'm transferring and faction changing to horde-side Norgannon to play with some friends there, and it'd be awesome to PuG a heroic with a writer from WoW.com :D
Matthew Rossi Sep 9th 2009 1:59AM
No, my toons on Norg are all Alliance. My horde toons are on Malfurion.
Oznak Sep 9th 2009 3:03AM
Wait, what? Curious, what guild(s) on Malfurion are you in?
Skarn Sep 8th 2009 10:51PM
/gasp!
Norgannon? That's my home! Nooooooo!
Oh, it's fixed? Yay! :D
