WoW Moviewatch: The Grind: 3 Minutes
It's been a while since we've seen a new episode of The Grind, so it was great to hear they'd created a new episode for entry into the BlizzCon 2009 machinima contest. The Grind: 3 Minutes did not win. As Macheath put it on Myndflame.com, "it not only didn't win, it really didn't win."
That's kind of a shame, because I thought The Grind: 3 Minutes was funny as heck. I laughed out loud during a few of the gags, and the frenetic, energetic pace of the video kept me engaged and entertained. That the author managed this pace without resorting to Robot Chicken style micro-clips is that much more impressive, and reinforces the power of quick dialogue. I'm not sure there's a story taking place here, and the whole thing seems like a stage for that witty exchange between the characters.
All in all, I thought the video was strong and funny. Here's hoping it won't be too long before we see another episode.

I thought it was stupid.

I love how when you disagree with a post, immediate downgrade. So people are allowed to have opinions as long as they conform to what you is right?
Fascism, google it.

You weren't downvoted by facists, you were downvoted because you made a lousy post which you then supplemented with two more lousy posts while insulting both the site and the readers. Perhaps if you fleshed out your comment further or actually attempted to post something that required some concious thought to type out, people might leave it as an acceptable opinion.
Why did it 'suck', for example? Five word post do not an intelligent discussion make.
Also, WikiLOL

@JC_Icefox: My comment was that the video choice was stupid, never said it suck. It lacked story, structure, and even humor, everything that was stated in the article, but apparently to get voted up, you must:
A> be captain obvious and rehash for those who didn't read/watch and for those who proceeded straight to comments
and
B> agree wholeheartely with the article at hand, so in essence, these comments are not comments (or discussion as you may), but cries of utter of agreement with whatever they was just spoon-fed.
At any rate, my original opinion and comment stands as is. I appreciate what you tried to do there, but instead of critiquing my comment, perhaps you should troll elsewhere. Yay for you!

How's the weather up there on that pedastal? Us down here couldn't fathom what it's like, apparently.

I want my 3 minutes back.

^ This.

Aw, c'mon. It had a couple of good gags that totally made it worth the 3 minutes (though the "48" takeoff was not only pointless but deathly unoriginal).
Makes me wish for a "Flintlocke" animated series *sigh*
(Speaking of which, my Dwarf Pally managed to get himself Flintlocke's Piloting Pants over the weekend! Woot!)

48? Is that like a spinoff with Jack Bauer and his clone?
toxicityj Sep 8th 2009 1:13PM
I thought it was pretty funny :/

meh. I thought there were a couple cute gags in it, (the significant otter crack me up,) but its not the best ive seen oblivious do. Overall, it was just OK for me, not great, not bad.

(in the news part at the bottom of the screen)
"Accident in health potion factory results in many injuries which are immediately healed..."

Meh...the funniest bits were the ticker at the bottom. The video itself was...meh.
Time to see what's up on the machinima channel at Vimeo, I guess. If anyone else is interested, it's here:

I liked it, and I actually raised my hand for the credits, I need a life.
halophoenix Sep 8th 2009 11:06PM
I did too. :D

Meh.
So, after an entire year since Episode 2, we are treated with this?
And it's only 3 minutes?
No way could they have been working on this for a year. Sure, they had released some other things, but I'm disappointed it took them THIS long, and it doesn't live up to the the previous episodes.
halophoenix Sep 8th 2009 11:04PM
They've actually been doing a lot - you should check out their channel to see all of the shorts they've done in the meantime.

To clear a couple things up, this isn't Episode 3 of the series. This is our entry to the Blizzcon contest and a "tribute" to their 3 minute time limit. With the type of movies we have historically done, 3 minutes doesn't allow for much in the way of story telling.
We are still working on Episode 3 of the Grind and will release it the moment it is done. It will be quite long and should be much better, at least we hope.
Thunderbuck Sep 8th 2009 4:28PM
OK, consider yourself forgiven for the "24" bit; didn't realize you were facing a time constraint.
Yes, I liked it, and I'll look for your other stuff (the Orc theme park cracked me up).
