WoW Moviewatch: La Terroriste
I'm a Ralph Bakshi fan from way back, but I still don't know how I got a Wizards vibe from a WoW-based sci-fi flick. Still, I got an unmistakably Bakshi-esque feel from Olibith's entry into the BitFilm Festival 2009 Machinima Award, a short film titled La Terroriste.
It's a brief movie, and fairly odd. It's one of those movies where I know what's going on, I can understand enough High School French to get the vibe of the language, and I'm still kind of like "whoah." La Terroriste definitely has a surreal vibe. I'd try and explain the plot, but i really think that any transcription of it would lesson the effect.
Overall, though, I totally dug the video. It's a lot of fun, and it doesn't drag on longer that its material can support. If you like the video, you can swing by the festival and vote for it. World of Workcraft is also appearing in the same contest. You do have to register, but it doesn't take long to do that. We've featured both World of Workcraft and La Terroriste before, but it's worth another look while the BitFilm Festival is still taking place.

I know it's probably not the best comment to place, but I dont find the title or story of this movie to be approiate with setember 11th being two days away. I doubt I will be the only one to feel this way either. I'm all for getting over it and such but still thats just my opinion and to be frank I think you should of thought twice of placing this movie in the movie watch section. Just thinking of the general public here.
Groth Sep 9th 2009 12:43PM
I understand your position and your concern, even though i don't personally share it. On the other hand, changing your actions because of terrorism means it works. It shouldn't matter when this was posted.
On a more random note, unless that was a strangely disguised female gnome, and the title in the actual vid was wrong, it should be 'Le' not 'La'.
Extrox Sep 9th 2009 12:49PM
No offense, but I think you're just being overly paranoid.
That was almost 8 years ago and while people won't forget it, most people aren't going to associate the title with that. I can't image how someone could be offended by the title even.
Now if the movie was the same title and had the Gnome flying a plane into a building and it happened to be released around the same time as the anniversary, I'd understand.
The same worry was brought up when Cloverfield was released (NYC being destroyed, dust all over people, etc.) but really it wasn't that big a deal.
Either way, I wouldn't sweat it. The title is not that a big deal.

The eleventh of september? Wasn't that when the Us marines invaded Honduras and killed thousands upon thousands of people back in 1919?
Or were you all talking about something else?
Edmunt Sep 9th 2009 12:29PM
that was kind of a good psychological thriller there. makes you wonder was the gnome the terrorist? Was the new trainee imagining things when he was told he could press the button? If he was imagining things was it because he was brainwashed?
lol I'm gonna lose sleep over this one.

So I get marked down for bringing up what is quite blatently obvious, nice people nice, I was actually shocked upon seeing the movie title on the front page of wow.com hence my comment, incase you dont understand why I said hence my comment, it was aimed at the writer of the artical, maybe hinting at a change of movie and / or Title? I'm looking out for other people here. My comment was simply stating if I got that out of this, then I'm not the only one who will....
Groth Sep 9th 2009 12:45PM
And the downranking means that people disagreed with you.
No-one asked you to look out for them, but good for you for thinking of others. Just don't feel upset if people don't agree with your concerns.
captxunderpants Sep 9th 2009 1:40PM
That was very cool.
9/11 was pretty much the last thing I thought of before, during and after viewing this.
But thanks for bringing it up!
aaron.a.fitz Sep 9th 2009 12:50PM
@ Groth, Thank you, I personally am not effected by it, that however does not mean I dont care, the reason behind my post was to inform the writer of the artical that if I get what I though out of the title, then I wont be the only one, I also brought it up as I'm pretty sure someone who was effected by that tragic day will stumble upon this and wont be happy about it, I'm looking out for WoW.com here, and the genral public. I get marked down for caring so it seem's so I'm done posting. Peace.

Plenty of people have been hurt or killed by guns. 3000 people died in the terrible 9/11 attacks, but millions more have been affected by firearms.
And yet, I don't think banning the depiction of firearms in movies, books, television shows, and video games is the right way to go about things.

Dear aaron.a.fitz,
Althought the event was quite a tragedy, get over it.
Peace,

I remember the campaign to ban the lord of the rings: the two towers, on the grounds that it was insensitive and too soon. It doesnt mean it was right to do so.
I have a friend who's brother died in the attacks. He has terrible problems with cookies, having been eating them when he saw the live footage. It doesn't stop me from eating cookies with him though.

Ah, you're taking downranking too personally.
I can't count how many times I've been downranked to oblivion.
Look at the bright side, at least someone read what you had to say rather than completely skipping your post. You're a good guy (most people wouldn't consider others) but people aren't always going to agree, just gotta roll with the punches sometimes =)
Edmunt Sep 9th 2009 3:19PM
@aaron.a.fitz
Now although I do believe your comment was a bit of an overreaction to the video and title that is not the reason I down ranked it. The reason for the down ranking is the usual intent of the type of comment you posted. (now before I go any further I need to stress what I am going to say DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL but it does to the MAJORITY) Those types of comment are usually left by individuals who like to bring attention to themselves and say, "look at me I'm in the right!", thus trying to somehow morally profit off of such a tragedy.
Now seeing by what you've said your are obviously not that kind of person, and although I still believe your original statement was a bit of an overreaction I understand you where just looking out for people. Thus I would like to apologize to you I did not mean any offense.

Okay, I don't think it's a big deal that this movie is called "the terrorist" - though I haven't watched it yet - but really now... "Get over it?" Dwell on it all the time? Of course not. But "Get over it?" No. Never. And shame on anyone who does.

Olibith movies are not my cup of tea.
But this one got a freakin Monty Python feeling, loved every seconds of it.
Technically flawless and very very funny. (wtf no sex jokes ???)
He got my vote !!

Hmm, sounds like they're deliberately putting something on their site just days ahead of 9/11. Poor taste, IMVHO.
