I beg to differ. Blizzard's fanbase seems, unfortunately, to be different. Just think about Tuesday maintenance. They always post a scheduled time at which they hope maintenance will end. When that time slips, they almost always post that maintenance needed to be extended and give a revised time estimation. That's when the shitstorm starts on the forums. "WTF Blizz so incompetent why u even post times when u never finish on time luzers?"
And this happens about every other week. Can you imagine the scale of whining and name-calling that would go on if Blizzard missed a patch or expansion date instead of just extending maintenance for an hour or two?
Frankly, I give them credit for continuing to post estimated maintenance times instead of just deciding that the immature portion of their player base can shove it, and we start learning that maintenance is scheduled to be completed "in the afternoon".

The reason this seems to happen so frequently is that most players seem to be of a younger age and so are unable to fathom something that gets in the way of their entertainment... and if one tries to calm such monstrous little entities down they freak out and start harassing you. Ultimately the choice is up to Blizzard but it would be nice to know when and why things are or aren't happening. =D
