Activision/Blizzard is also a publicly traded company. Any announcements they make will have an affect on the stock price. This is something very important that has to be taken into account when mentioning dates.
Release dates are funny things. Anyone who works developing software knows these dates are ones you always try and meet as hard as possible but there has to be a threshold. It's where the idea of "good enough" comes in. If I were to release a piece of software only when it was perfect I'd never release. On the flip side I am very wary of misquoting an estimate for dates because I don't want to disappoint my end user. There has to be a balance there. It's very tricky finding it.
All the above said, while I like to know when something is coming out, I don't go nuts worrying about it. As long as I know the problem is being worked on I am happy. I suspect the vast majority is less date aware than the vocal minority.
Would a high level road map be nice? Sure, but it is no deal breaker and is definitely not something I'd bother to push them on. There are much bigger issues.
