I'm confused. What positive benefits do we gain from "knowing" the release date of a patch?

well, knowing that the mount changes were coming on Tuesday may have prevented some people from spending the extra gold on Sunday.

If people don't know the patch drop dates they won't be able to log in early and complain about all of the disconnects and lag. Just think of all that prime QQ time... wasted.
