I think when making comparisons of community its important to keep in mind that, assuming for a moment that all classes in wow are roughly equally popular, there are around three times as many people playing any given class in wow as there are total people playing Eve Online. now if you look at it that way, the comparison is rather silly I think you can agree.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for more communication. I would love blizzard to do some kind of official blog like other game companies do. something outside the forums, with an rss feed perhaps, updated once every one or two weeks, even if all they did was summarize the official forum posts in that time-frame. However, I don't think release dates are something any game company should give out.
If you are the kind of person who won't whine if blizzard pushes back a patch, then you should be patient and mature enough to not need one in the first place.
