Missing help for World Explorers

This post by homestar over on WoW Ladies LJ reminds me of an issue we'd let drop by the wayside: where exactly is that help that World Explorers were supposed to get? Right now, as you move around the world trying to pick up the World Explorer achievement (and title), there's no real way to tell exactly what places you've explored and which you haven't. Obviously, the map colors in as you wander around, but it's not so granular that you can tell exactly where you need to go, so if there's only one small location you have to visit, as with homestar, you end up wandering around desperately trying to find that one little place you haven't hit yet.
The good news is that Blizzard already mentioned we would get help for this. The bad news is that it was over a year ago. Bornakk said that we'd have a way to tell on the map just where locations had been discovered and where they hadn't been seen yet, but since then we haven't really heard anything more about it. Obviously, a few things have been added to the maps, including quest icons, and instance maps have been added as well, but where's the Explorer help?
At this point. you have to think that Blizzard has moved on -- maybe whatever update Bornakk was hinting at did make it into the game and we just didn't notice it. But more likely, they couldn't figure out a good way to do this, didn't have a lot of call for it, and decided to spend the time on something else. Especially with the upcoming revamp of old maps, maybe we'll see maps that are a little more helpful in terms of getting the full Explorer achievement.

Mozz's Full World Map. Makes even the tiniest unexplored area a big blue patch.

1 - Open you achievements window (the hotkey is "Y")
2 - Click Exploration -> Click [Your Continent] -> Click [Your Region]
3 - Check off "Track Achievement"
4 - The achievement you are tracking appears on the right of your screen
5 - Look up area in WoWiki
6 - Repeat for missed areas
7 - Claim achievements

@Boz: this is how I did it, on all three of my Explorer toons. Its not so bad. If you use a little common sense (and wiki to fill in the couple of gaps there are), you'll find it all in no time. It actually satisfied my anal [OCD] nature to go zone to zone, check out a few missing areas, find the most efficient way to hit them and then end up in the next zone along the way.
On that note, why hasn't someone made an addon that automatically gives me crusader aura and will run me from each missing zone area to the next without getting me stuck on tree auto-run 4tw!! /sarcasm off, l2run people

You can also use Cartographer, and turn on Foglight. That will highlight the unexplored areas in a color of your choosing.

Works like a charm. Explorer Chukie had no problems discovering azeroth and outlands thanks to that "map"

There's also MozzFullWorldMap which highlights all unexplored areas of the map in a shade of blue. I prefer it over Cartographer as Cart uses much more memory than MozzFullWorldMap and TomTom together.

Theres addons and websites that explain most of the hard to get ones iirc.
Plus the explorer title is only acceptable if your character's name is Dora or something close to it anyway.

Anybody have a suggestion of a source for the rare spawn points for the other Achievements in Explorer?

_NPCScan from curse.com.
and seriously, is it that difficult to pull up the places you have not completely explored and google them? wowhead, wowwiki, alakazahm, and probably a dozen other sites can tell you the locations of the places. for anyone over 77, the world explorer achievement is not a challenge, only time consuming.
go ahead and vote me down, but not every achievement should be handed to us. if you 'need' more help with this one then go get an addon - don't cry to blizzard to make it easier.

Yeah that were my thoughts too. It's called EXPLORER for a reason.
Back in the days it was fun to look around the corner and actually explore the world for the sake of exploring and not because you could add another titel to your endless list.
I think it's sad that the achievements are just a piece of 'oh look my epeen!'.

Honestly, I never had any problem utilizing the non-colored-in sections of the map as my sole clue. Seemed pretty straightforward to me.
Every now and then I'd find one tiny coastline or island that would give me a bit of trouble, but when we're talking about what are overall some of the easiest achievements there are, that doesn't really seem unfair.
Zal Sep 11th 2009 6:18AM
I agree, I found it really easy to get the title it's not exactly difficult to see where you haven't been.
For the ones that are a bit elusive I suggest you just check the achievement list as then you can see the name of the ones you're missing. If that still doesn't help just read up what the area is online. There's really no need for any add-ons just to do this.

Great addon!

I'll second this one. HUGE help. There were a few that I felt the dot was a bit off, but for the most part, awesome.

NPC Scan works great for Outland and Northrend rares.,
Mike Sep 10th 2009 6:10PM
Carbonite will tell you, with the unexplored areas in black in the side map.
slyman.is.god Sep 10th 2009 7:39PM
indeed, with carbonite I explored everything without any troubles at all. That achievement is just dumb, you do absolutely nothing to get it, most maps npc's send you all over the place anyway and u explore it wether you want it or not. When I got to Northrend, I had everything else explored already, so the achievement came soon after.
