World of WarCrafts: The Tale of Pally Pete
Sometimes a song can express more than a thousand words. In keeping with this spirit, we're once again calling all masters of sound to create some touching, comical, or just plain awesome songs grounded in the Warcraft, StarCraft, or Diablo universes. Fill our ears with powerfully emotional melodies in two minutes or less and you'll have a chance to reap some fantastic rewards. – BlizzCon 2009 Contests page
This week's World of WarCrafts features the third-place winner of this year's Original Song Contest at BlizzCon. Creator Jamie Brown composed, performed and recorded "The Tale of Pally Pete" completely solo - well, except for a little help on the lyrics from his kids. We chatted with Jamie a little to find out what goes into a BlizzCon winning original.
World of WarCrafts: Jamie, your song sounds so polished! What do you do professionally?
Jamie Brown: I work tech support for an e-commerce company full time, but I know I'm here on Earth to make music. So I have to do it part time for now. I lead worship at a church part time, and write on the side.
How long have you been a musician?
Pretty much all my life. My parents bought a piano when I was about 10, and I picked up the guitar at about 13.
What do you play?
Guitar, drums, keyboard, bass, saxophone.
Is your main character Pally Pete?
No. He's actually only level 14! I created the toon after I wrote the song. He's nowhere near a Tier 9 set, like the song proclaims. But hey, if Blizzard is feeling generous ...
We understand there's a Pally Pete machinima in the works.
I pictured the video in my head the whole time I was writing "Pally Pete," so I'm really excited about finishing it. It's my first attempt at machinima, so we'll see how it turns out. But this song just begs for a video.
What other music do you write?
The music I normally write is nothing like this, but I've been exposed to many other styles, so I like to dabble in other styles at times. This style just seemed to tell the story better. It sort of reminds me of a Marty Robbins song my Dad and I used to listen to all the time.
Thanks for sharing it with our readers, Jamie, and best of luck getting more of your work out there. We'll be listening for you!
World of WarCrafts is LFMusicians
Do you play World of Warcraft music or compose your own WoW-themed pieces? We'd love to hear from you! As "Pally Pete" composer Jamie Brown says, "I have been trying to find the second-place winner's song (Editor's Note: it's now posted at Blizzard's BlizzCon contest page), and I hope your post will bring them out into the open so they too can share their talent with the community. I know there are tons of musicians out there in the WoW community, so I am thrilled that you are showcasing them here."

I wonder if the Marty Robbins song he mentioned is Big Iron. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqWgTi2bIOc

I'm one of those fantastically boring people who find most WoW songs pretty dull, but I really enjoyed this. Kudos, man.

Very good work although I coldn't understand alot of the lyrics and it would be great to have them on the static picture (I have hearing problems).
Jamie and Cranius should collaborate. Their style is very similar.

The Tale of Pally Pete
=======================
As the sun sets over Goldshire,
and howel of the wolf pierces the night,
a tall old ??chatter?? falls upon dusty eager ground
choking out what's left of day light
The folks were always talking 'bout a stranger,
a stranger that no one could ere defeat,
could it be that this little town in Elwyn forest
was about to meet the man called "Pally Pete"
choir: Pally Peeeete
????????????????????? ten more??? and never grow the sweat
??he don't need medal as a red banded and gain a??? shiny tier 9 set
never will you meet a man so beau and spry and ??lead??
stay away from Pally Pete
As the dust settles underneath his feet,
he darkenes the old aliance ???bride and door??
the pictures from every land goes far and wide
turn to see this famous metal ??lore ??
??but from the crowd the sticker rogue the silence??
??and after follow?? any group and crew
you see this legendary man, oh lord
but he's still no more then ???
choir: tiny Peeeete
Pete sat him down and ordered him a stout
I don't care lets go do a win without a doubt
choir: accept the Pete
he just smiled to that and said to that I'll meet you on the street.
Whats up the sleeve of Pally Pete?
well the walked to the street and took 10 paces
and that was making justed old piece tight
from all the sudden Pete revealed his two hand mace
and cast upon himself blessino might
Pete: Now it's a fight!
the rest I can explain 'couse its just ??gibberish on the tell??
lets just say that dwarfs don't take the height jokes all that well
He could gain respect from all the folks he did meet
that's the tale of Pally Pete

Here are the complete lyrics:
As the sun sets over Goldshire
and the howl of the wolf pierces the night
A tall dark shadow falls upon the dusty ground
choking out what's left of daylight
The folks are always talkin 'bout a stranger
A stranger that no one could e're defeat
Could it be this little town in Elwyn Forest
Was about to meet the man they call Pally Pete
(Pally Pete)
He fought ten Horde and then ten more and never broke a sweat
He don't need mana, wears a red bandana, got a shiny tier 9 set
Never will you meet a man so fearless, brave and leet
Stay away from Pally Pete
As the dust settles underneath his feet
He darkens the old Lion's Pride Inn door
Adventurers from every land both far and wide
Turn to see this famous man of lore
And from the crowd a snicker from the silence
Then laughter followed and it grew and grew
You see this legendary man of lore
Well he stood no more than 3 foot 2
(Tiny Pete)
Well Pete walked in and sat right down and ordered him a stout
Then Night Elf Ned said "Let's go duel, I'll win without a doubt"
(Accept defeat)
Pete just smiled and said to Ned "I'll meet you in the street"
What's up the sleeve of Pally Pete
Well they walked out to the street and took ten paces
And Ned was making jest at ole' Pete's height
When all the sudden Pete revealed his two-hand mace
and cast upon himself Blessing of Might
(Now it's a fight!)
The rest I can't explain cause it's just too gruesome to tell
Let's just say that Dwarves don't take to height jokes all that well
(He's just petite)
Pete regained respect from all the folks that he did meet
And that's the tale of Pally Pete
