They don't happen often, but when they happen, you remember them forever. My wife successfully taming Loque'nahk. The
forging of my Quel'Serrar. Our first complete clear of Ahn'Qiraj. Even just sitting on my mount as the sun rose on Menethil Island and realizing I'd spent nearly an entire night with my then-girlfriend chatting in-between bouts of killing various and sundry things. Those little moments that make up the memories that keep people playing. One of the ones I've enjoyed the most in game, oddly enough, is a
small set of
linked quests available in the Dragonblight where you end up doing the same quest effectively twice, once as a mid 70's character getting help from your future self, and again as your level 80 incarnation going back in time to provide that help. I don't know exactly why but it's one of my favorite aspects of the game and one I've made sure to do over and over again.
Of course, they're not all good. One of my good in game friends delights in telling the story of the night my wife was patiently waiting for
Lupos, a rare spawn worg from Duskwood, as she wished to tame said beastie for a pet. Lo and behold, as soon as she took a break for her biological means I linked
a green drop in guild. As you can imagine, going on four years later I still hear about this from her when tempers are short. I've often wished
Chromie would let me go back and stop that one, but so far no dice.
So now dear readers I ask you for your moments, be they great, terrible, or greatly terrible (or terribly great, even).

Gnomer instance = EPIC WIN!

Sneaking into Durotar (on a PvP server) as my level 13 nightelf hunter. My goal was to tame the (then) fast-attacking, rare spawn scorpid. I recall actually taking a nap beforehand so i could get up at 1am to avoid the masses of horde that would be running about the zone. Upon first reaching Ashenvale i ACTUALLY paused at the Darkshore border. I had NEVER entered a contested zone before and was looking at a level 21 wolf off in the distance with apprehension. Still, i managed to cross the zone with only one death (damn bears!) and reach the large river that runs down past Orgimmar and the Barrens. I took a screenshot of the massive Org bridge as i snuck under it, hid in a tree as a lvl ?? flew over me (yes, even though the hordie was on an fp, i felt like he was going to jump out of nowhere in a few seconds and GET me). Finally, near the riverbank at the edge of a mountain i found the black and red scorpid i sought. I'll be honest, i hearthed out of there like a madman as soon as my taming succeeded. But it was a grand adventure and more than a few guildie's jaws hit the floor the following day when they realized where my new pet had come from.
And i still have that scorpid!

Good choice.
I always found the corrupted Scorpid to look incredibly neat.
I have mine still too from when I started to play.

I love the scorpids too. My hunter is BM and just hit Northrend, so I just grabbed a rhino and a worm, but my scorpid is still my fave! Had him since like lvl 22ish. I have the kind of mint green skinned one. It was a total pain taming him though! The area where they are is very difficult because it's hard to pull just one thing, one thing usually comes with 3 little bug friends and the mobs are really close together etc.
I also love their animations. The swim one is really cute and the one where he randomly raises his claws in the air trips me out constantly.

For me, the first time, on my first toon, getting up to 58 so I could use the Dark Portal and go to Outland. I remember riding up to the area, dismounting and walking up to it and just looking at it (before going through). First time I ever took a screen shot (yup, still have it) with my warrior and the Portal in the background. Took like 5 minutes trying to get the "perfect" shot. Even going through it was different. With instances, I would just run and jump. This time I walked up to it and as slow as I could, went in. Have done that portal many times after but it still hold a special place from that first time.

Druid flight form quest. Totally epic. Blizz did great on it.

Ha I also wanted to add a bad moment. Funny when I think back, but my brain nearly exploded back when it happened. Nelfs, remember the starter quest to kill the big spider Lady Sathrah? I fell off Teldrassil looking for her. Down some waterfall and into the sea. I spent the next half hour circling the great tree to get to Rutheran Village. Absolute worst/funniest WoW experience ever.
JKWood Sep 16th 2009 9:53AM
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who fell off looking for her.

Hmm, as a fresh NE Hunter (any else) I was running towards Stormwind when suddenly something flew by me a bit above and I realised a toon was mounted on the bird. Thinking how awesomely big this "world" must be I found myself dazzled when trying to comprehend how many more players are there.
Moments later I witnessed a massive bunch of players with their names in red and couldnt for the world of it understand why nobody bothered to conversate with me. Found em to be a bit frightening on their mounts and in their full glory of armor and weapons.
Two moments that defenitly lead to the addiscion we all learned to love/hate.

Way back when I was a clueless lowbie Alliance player playing with my spouse (I'm a Horde raider now) we did the whole Duskwood quest chain that culminated in the appearance of Stitches. But of course we didn't know that. We'd both gone into the little shed off to the side of the graveyard to turn in a quest to the old man in there, and then we just kind of dawdled around, talking and not really paying attention to what was going on. We turned to leave the shed and there was this...THING...standing outside waiting for us. Literally *right* outside! It filled our vision completely. "Holy @#$%!" I yelled. "What the hell is *that*!" Scared the you-know-what out of both of us. We made a token effort to fight back, but of course Stitches pretty much immediately got the best of our clueless lowbie butts.
To this day, whenever I'm in Duskwood I look for Stitches, and when I see him, I kill him. But that will always be one of my more memorable WoW experiences.
Killing Illidan for a server first was nice, too. :D

One of my more memorable encounters was with Stitches as well. One day on my tiny warlock I logged into the game. I had left her somewhere on the road in Duskwood, and... I managed to log in right on top of Stitches! Who instantly attacked me, ofcourse. Luckily for me, a whole crowd of people happened to be gathered there, it was right at the crossroads where the little camp is. I guess they were accompanying him to Darkshire, and they all attacked as soon as Stitches had aggro'd because of me. I'm not sure if I survived or not, but I remember proudly looting Stitches' Femur afterwards, haha :)
Another one of my favorite moments was my first PvP encounter. I had never done much PvP and was a little apprehensive about it, and to throw myself in the deep I had made a new warlock alt at a PvP server. And lo and behold, my first day in Ashenvale I have my first encounter. An alliance rogue sneakes up and attacks me. The level difference was big, he was red to me. And since rogues are often pretty much unbeatable for locks unless you get lucky with your fears and such, I thought I was dead. I didn't even have the Insignia of the Horde yet to get out of stuns. But to my great surprise, I OWNED him..! And thought to myself mmkay, maybe I'm not so bad at PvP after all..! (but, realistically, it was probably a very VERY noobish rogue hehe)

Completing the Netherwing rep grind on my main.
Spending four days soloing BRD (stuff kept coming up, I'd have to log off and I'd have to START OVER) and FINALLY killing Emperor Thaurissan. I sat in that throne for ten minutes, growling to myself, "You keep what you kill."
Soloing Strat last week. For some reason, I didn't think I could do it, and to roflstomp it was...satisfying. Sadly, no mount, but it won't be the last time my Hunter goes there.

My very first toon was a priest, and as I was leveling him up some guild friends of mine asked if I wanted a run through some low level instances. So a buddy of mine grabbed his lowbie toon, and with two high level guild friends we headed out. Well, the first bit of hilarity came when they realized I had crap for flight paths (I was like lvl 32 or something). So I got to experience running through Arathi Highlands and Dusthallow... at night... on a PvP server dominated by horde. Ya, that was an adventure.
After we had run SFK they offered to run us through RFK/RFD. So we headed over that way. We get to one of them and realize I'm too low level to enter. So we try to make our way back out, and end up at the top of a cliff. A very very tall cliff. The pally in the group says, hey, I can just bubble people down. So he throws a bubble on my lowbie hunter friend and he jumps down. It was at that moment a revelation struck him. "Oh... guys, it take 5 minutes for the bubble to recharge".
So we all decided to see if we could live to hit the bottom on our own. I almost made it (didn't have levitate yet), but ended up making a splat next to my friend cowering in fear behind a razor-tree type thing.
By this point it was like 2-3am and we were all a bit punchy. I couldn't stop laughing and had to literally hold my hand over my mouth so I didn't wake up the rest of the household. Great times...

Leveling my first toon, a Gnome Warlock, in Ungoro Crater. I was on the quest where you have to escort that guy that keeps passing out and to wake him up you have to douse him with water. My older brother had told me to watch out for the giant T-Rex's. I had been in Ungoro for a while and hadn't seen any giant T-Rex's yet. As I crossed a river the guy I was escorting passed out.
"Dang it all," I said into vent. "Escorting this guy is annoying."
"Just remember to look out for the giant T-Rex's," my brother said.
"Yeah, I think your full of crap. I haven't seen any T-Rex's this whole time...HOLY #$*@!" I screamed out as I turned around after dousing the passed out guy. Through all the mist and fog that chokes Ungoro, I giant T-Rex emerged right behind me.
"Told ya," my brother said with a laugh.
Coincidentally that is the moment I discovered that the Soulstone is the greatest aggro drop in the game.

I've had quite a few moments...
- Before WoW the most graphically intensive MMO I'd played was Ragnarok Online...I started a WoW trial to see what the hype was about, rolled up a night elf, and just sort of stared at how gorgeous Teldrassil was.
- I refuse to run PUGs, so I've never seen a lot of content until hitting 80 and started running with my guild. We just recently started doing old world achievements to get them for as many members as we can before Cat hits, and seeing the infamous Onyxia and Molten Core for the first time was just great. Especially the epic swell of music as you run up the spiral to Ragnaros.
- My very first PvP run. I -hated- PvP in almost any form, but especially world PvP. I decided to try AV, though, just to jump in and see what it was like. The Horde had us 500 to 100 and some reinforcements, most of our spots captured, and pressed back to our own keep. Somehow we managed to turn it around, press the horde all the way back through the map, and took the win with just 15 reinforcements left. It was an incredible rush and turned me on to PvP from there on in.
- When I convinced, just recently, my WoW-hating girlfriend to join me in the game! She's now even more into the game than I am, and it's been a thousand times more fun with her around to play with. She's getting along well with the guild, and the occasional little love note in my mailbox can't help but make me blush like crazy.
Finally...
- Hitting 80. WoW is the first MMO I've ever capped a character in, and I've played a -lot- of MMOs. Seeing the flash of that achievement and the reaction of the guild was great, and the sense of power that comes with being the highest of the high is fantastic. I basically steamroll anyone that crosses my path, and it's delicious. xD Add to that how much content and things there are left to do, and I've realized people are right--The game really -does- start at 80.

My most memorable moment is moreso in retrospect, rather than being memorable at that point in time. It was perhaps a month or so after TBC had been released and I'd rolled a blood elf mage. I had some friends on the server from other places but didn't see them THAT often; except for a couple of dungeon runs I'd mostly solo'd, and my mage was level 20-ish.
One day I was just sitting alone in the Ruins of Lordaeron, feeling faintly glum IRL which also translated in-character (I play on a RP server). A random belf warlock happened past and decided to stop and chat with my character (again, in-character chatting). I didn't think much of it at that moment beyond, "Hey, cool, random roleplay with someone who seems fairly bright." It was a rather enjoyable spot of random RP conversation.
In 9 days that warlock's player and I will be getting married IRL. :)

One of my happiest moments was accidentally getting the Northern Exposure Achievement - I'd just logged in from a DC and a huge rhino was walking towards me. I right clicked and noticed he was a rare. Hoping I'd get some decent loot I quickly killed him, only to have the Achievement ding up when he died. .
I'm also pleased that I've just managed to level my Mage's tailoring up to 410 and getting the mats to craft his flying carpet.
Bad moments? Realising that I'd spent the gold of all my other toons to get the mats to level the tailoring to 410 and not being able to get enough money together to get the appropriate riding skill! Hopefully it'll not take me too long to save up!
JustPlainJim Sep 16th 2009 10:25AM
I've got more moments than I could possibly type here in in any reasonable time.
Chromie's quests were great, except I did them both at 80, one right after the other. Having past me complimenting future me's awesome gear that was the same when I was past me loses some of the effect. Having future me tell me to get some better gear was still funny, though. ;P
My best friend and I decided to start WoW together, pre-BC. We'd played MMOs together before, but this would be the first time we were starting a whole new game together. It'd all be fresh to both of us and something we could do together. From level 1 to 70, we did everything together. Every quest, every kill, every bit of lore, every bit of XP we got at the same time, at least with our mains and 90% of our alts (of which, there were many). We didn't hit 70 until after WotLK came out (showing how casual and alt-a-holic we are), and by that time my best friend had gotten married and gotten a better job.
Before anyone thinks that this is going to be one of those "wife didn't like warcraft so we parted ways" stories, he got her hooked on WoW pretty early on in their relationship and she hit 80 before we did. She's now our preferred healer and a darn close friend to me.
Still, being soulbound to the missus and the new job eating his time, we found that our free hours didn't match up so well any more. So, around 73, we agreed to part ways a bit and meet back up once we got to 80. Weeks went by and I discovered just how long it takes to kill things as a solo warrior that's used to being a tank (answer: "an eternity"). One night, my buddy and I, both 79 at this point, decide to do some questing together in the Storm peaks. We compared XP levels and, amazingly enough, we were within a thousand XP of each other. So, with all this background...
One of my favorite moments in WoW was dinging 80 at the same time as my best friend upon turning in the exact same quest.
Some of our other moments:
- Swimming across the river between Elwyn and Duskwood "How hard can they be? They're wolves!" "Their level says 'skull'." "... Right. Back across the river, then."
- Seeing an elite that's 5 levels higher than us (mid 40s). "Wow..." "Yeah." "He's coming this way." "Yeah." "Good thing his name's yellow." "... No, it isn't?" "It isn't?" "No...?" *best friend blinks away, leaving me to die* *best friend reminds me that he's colorblind*
- The sheer number of times I've heard "oops" and had to tank way more than I was expecting... and still surviving.
- Dancing with an undead mage that came to Sentinel Hill to kill anyone that was flagged. Nice lady, got plenty of laughs with her.

I was playing my 40-something druid with a couple of friends of mine - a 52 warlock and 70 warrior tank who was running us through Blackrock Depths. We all got to a point where we all had to jump down to a lower level.
As we started killing mobs, I looked down the long hallway we were in and saw a 60-man army racing towards us, with the warlock's Voidwalker pet in the lead.
We got slaughtered and all laughed for about ten minutes.
