They don't happen often, but when they happen, you remember them forever. My wife successfully taming Loque'nahk. The
forging of my Quel'Serrar. Our first complete clear of Ahn'Qiraj. Even just sitting on my mount as the sun rose on Menethil Island and realizing I'd spent nearly an entire night with my then-girlfriend chatting in-between bouts of killing various and sundry things. Those little moments that make up the memories that keep people playing. One of the ones I've enjoyed the most in game, oddly enough, is a
small set of
linked quests available in the Dragonblight where you end up doing the same quest effectively twice, once as a mid 70's character getting help from your future self, and again as your level 80 incarnation going back in time to provide that help. I don't know exactly why but it's one of my favorite aspects of the game and one I've made sure to do over and over again.
Of course, they're not all good. One of my good in game friends delights in telling the story of the night my wife was patiently waiting for
Lupos, a rare spawn worg from Duskwood, as she wished to tame said beastie for a pet. Lo and behold, as soon as she took a break for her biological means I linked
a green drop in guild. As you can imagine, going on four years later I still hear about this from her when tempers are short. I've often wished
Chromie would let me go back and stop that one, but so far no dice.
So now dear readers I ask you for your moments, be they great, terrible, or greatly terrible (or terribly great, even).

My "moment" was the first time I ever fully cleared BRD... sitting there in the throne room with all my friends whom I still play with(years later). We took a screen shot of us in the chairs there, with me in the throne. still to this day one of my favorite screen shots.

2 cool moments come to mind, one PvP and one raiding experience.
I was hanging out in Hammerfall with my level 59 Warlock; he was/is my main, so was my highest level character. 2 70 Alliance Hunters (this was back in BC) decided it'd be fun to attack the town, wiping out guards, npcs, and lowbie hordies. They killed me a few times, I was flailing wildly a bit, not strategizing, before I got pissed off and thought up a long-shot plan to at least kill one of them. Somehow, I killed them both without dying (thank you guards!), and even got one of them when they rezzed. It was awesome.
The 2nd one has to be my guild's first Kael kill a couple of months before Wrath dropped. We'd been working on him for a few months, and it was great to see him die. The fight is pretty epic too.

About time of patch 2.3 I dinged 70. Without knowing anything about endgame I was confused as usual. I've been doing PvP for while while leveling and I liked it and horde usually won most of the games. Then I went to 70 pvp and did dailies. Needless to say I got sick of that after while and almost quit the game again. Got tired of being free HK, melee food( (full S2 set at the time since it was honor bought in 2.4(?)), they even lose to this day 90% of the games.. most people even did those "losing premades for fast marks" back in the day.
Then some random guy asked would I want to come to kara with guys from same country as me. Needless to say again, I loved it. Feeling of 10 people working together. Being in CC duty, doing dps, getting loot and feeling I did something good as "downing boss" really made me realise how amazing PvE and specially raiding was with right people. I started running kara with them from time to time and quit pvp for good. Later I got into Zul'aman, gruul, maggie etc. Never again I started being melee food in pvp. Now I'm in guild thats doing regular raids and doing great (cleared all content in 10mans) and we are having fun with that too. I think thats the reason I still play for this day, having fun with people and respecting classes PvE abilites instead of being facerolled down by some spitting asshat "flavor of the year" and stressing about it.

One of my more memorable moments, happened a few weeks ago, the Thursday after Patch 3.2 went live. I was on my level 80 hunter flying around in Storm Peaks looking for the new spirit beast “Skoll”. I knew the areas where he was suppose to spawn, and low and behold there he was above the village in the Foot Steppes. So, I land drop a freeze trap at my feet, because as soon as you attack him he leaps at you. I freeze him and start to tame him, when it says I can‘t. At first, I thought he was glitched, after several moments of him gnawing on me between freeze traps, I realize that all my talents had been reset. So, I quickly dumped enough talents into Beast Master to get to 51, and then started taming him.
I was so stressed watching the rate my health bar was decreasing, outpace the taming timer.
I managed to tame him with only 8 health left.
Now I get whispers everywhere I go in game, as to where I got the cool pet.

I have a couple of moments. One was when I was taming the cat in Winterspring. I completely failed at taming because I aggro'd 3 other cats every time, and died. I completely freaked out when I realized after taming him that I had no food to give him, and worried he'd run away before I got food.
Another moment was the Time-Lost Proto Drake. It was probably a week after I had started my search that I was just going to give up (not really, but everyone says they were literally going to give up on finding a rare mob right as they find them). I decided to fly a different way, and I pressed the macro and it targeted him. I flew around in an adrenaline rush, trying to figure out where he was. Took about 10 minutes before I finally found him. As soon as he died, 15 other people showed up, watching me in my glory of riding the proto-drake.
Tanking and Healing experiences were also so much fun, yet so nerve wracking the first time. My first tanking experience was in maradon in TBC era. We had been in the instance for 3-4 hours. The tank quit right as we were going down to face Princess. I was the only class that could also tank, so they said to pop a shield and sword and start tanking in my arms leveling spec. I had no idea what I was doing, and didn't have a shield or sword to switch to. In the end, I tanked the rest of the instance with the 2H wind axe and we did kill princess. 4-manned...with a non-tanking spec tank, and all of us around the mara level reqs. My first healing experience was on my druid, while I was a feral druid learning to tank and my friend pushed me into going to kara. We were doing Nightbane and they told me to innervate the healer (had no idea what innervate was), then they said to cast Tranquility at a certain moment. Later, in WotLK, I decided to finish leveling my druid and heal an instance. After actively researching for hours how to heal an instance, I took a pug into a heroic and found it to be much easier than i expected. Of course, they were all over-geared, so the next time I took a Pug with less geared people...it wasn't as fun.
I think I've said enough...way too many great moments in wow to say one is the biggest.

My most recent epic memory was taming Skoll in Storm Peaks. I'd been camping him for days, and when he finally spawned, it was right below me (I was on my flying mount). I was so excited when I saw him on track, I jumped off my mount and forgot to use my parachute. I didn't take too much damage and got an awesome pet out of it.
Classically, the first time we downed Ragnaros will always be my most favorite memory from WoW. There's just something about doing the progression with 40 people and being able to execute a highly choreographed fight. Perhaps I've been jaded from the experience, but I've not found anything near that epic for me since.

Getting epic flight. Getting my Netherwing. Getting to level 80. Some obvious ones.
However, the first time I beat someone in a one-on-one fight in a battleground will never leave my memory.

Getting the Swift White Hawkstrider. Ever since it was released I wanted it and I highly doubt I'll ever replace it.

Way back in the early days of vanilla WoW, my roommate and I were going through the early content as a warrior-paladin duo. Not the most efficient of parties, I know. But valuable for some great hilarity as we learned about the details of the game.
The greatest moment was when questing in the Thelsamar area around level 13 or so, we wandered over into the Badlands, where everything had a skull for level. Realizing that this was a bad place to be, we immediately turned around and tried to high-tail it back for safe harbor.
On the way, we managed to aggro a coyote. It goes after my paladin roommate, who uses the great skill of Bubble-Hearthing, while I'm jamming on my Hearthstone hotkey as fast as I can.
The coyote turns and starts running for me as I'm watching the Hearthstone animation continue, shouting out loud "Come on! Come on! Hearth, dammit!"
WHOOSH! The coyote leaps just as the Hearthstone activates, and I appear in the tavern in Ironforge.
Right in front of a hunter with a coyote pet of the exact same model.
The literal real-life scream of surprise was epic. "IT FOLLOWED ME THROUGH!!!"
Yeah, some moments you never live down.

Every single one of my most memorable and favorite moments happened in vanilla.
1.) killing hakkar for the first time. WWWWAAAAYYYY back when I first started raiding and my guild was literally in all blues, we had been working on progressing through ZG for about a month, I was at my friends house at about 3 am having a lan party of course, everyone there who wasnt in the raid had already passed out so it was just me and my friend paul who were up. As soon as we killed him I remember both of us running through the house screaming...
2.) In vanilla when about 4 of us spent 8 HOURS running around the world trying to get into places that your not supposed to be, here is where we went:
2a.) Hyjal, yes you could get into hyjal in vanilla not sure if its possible now but back then it took a good 20 minutes of jumping in exactly the right places as you slowly made your way up high enough to be able to jump over the invisible wall.
2b.) Non-instanced Zul'Gurub, by climbing up the mountains in duskwood you can get into a weird not completely finished version of ZG.
2c.) Caverns of time, you can get into this weird space/flying colors place by climbing up the backside of the mountains behind COT, in the most difficult jumping part we had about a 2 hour battle over the right to climb up to the top with 3 troll shamans.
2d.) Redridge, if you can get over the mountains north of redridge i think? its just a flat plain of red, orange and black plaid.... kinda weird.
3.)My third favorite moment was when (with the same raiding guild still in vanilla) we were in MC trying to pull baron geden, the hunter who was pulling him was basically hated by everyone in the guild except the guild leader, so whenever he'd come around the corner my friend would throw a snowball knocking him over, at which point BG would kill him and then reset, he did this about 3 times and the guy was screaming in vent while the rest of the guild was laughing there asses off.
3b.) another funny thing with snowballs, me and my two friends while still leveling were trying to get to duskwallow, my and one friend were already on the boat and were spamming snow balls at the last guy (paul again). So he'd take two steps, fall over, take two steps, fall over, etc. we made him miss the boat, lol, of course then we had to wait for him on the other side.
4.) My final favorite moment was when my guild was doing the sithilis outdoor bosses. we came across a tauren warrior and decided instead of raiding we'd just repetitively MC him (No diminishing returns back then!), and see what we could make him do. I believe it culminated in sending him through a portal to IF.
remember when epics were actually a status symbol?, and when you saw someone walking around in all epics it was like "whoa that guys good, I want to be like him"

My moment came when I discovered mind control as a priest.
When I first started playing WoW I rolled a priest because I heard tales of how much fun mind controlling can be, priest are the only ones who can do it etc. After a while of playing the game I had forgotten about it until I hit lvl 30. First thing I did was go to AB and throw people of the cliff at LM. I would be laughing so hard as I would make allys bounce off the cliff. My teamates around me would laugh and /cheer and sometimes whisper me saying they had never seen anything like it. I still try to MC today as much as I can as it is one of my favorite spells.

Forgot one more thing, back in vanilla my account got hacked and ALL of my gear was stolen, they unlearned my 300 alch (i've never had a maxed out prof since). Unfortunately I still had a raid to go to, about 12 people in the raid all brought me greens to wear, so that night I can say I killed nef in all greens, (just shows how 40 mans could carry people lol) luckily I had my account restored but alas they wouldnt restore my alchemy.
markwilla Sep 16th 2009 12:11PM
I remember back in Vanilla while playing my first ever toon (a human Warrior) I grouped with 4 others to take on the Deadmines (my first ever instance).
After completion, one of the party asked if we wanted to run to Booty Bay. "Booty Bay? Where on Earth is that?", I thought to myself. To that point my whole WOW experience had been Elwynn Forest and Westfall and I had no concept of the vast lands that lay ahead of me.
After climbing the mountains in Westfall and jumping into the river, I had arrived in Stranglethorn! To cut a long and epic journey short, my band of fellow adventurers were joined by a level 60 and we all treked for what seemed like forever down the long road to Booty Bay. Everything within a five mile radius seemed to aggro us, but our escort level 60 kept us safe.
I was amazed by the scenery, the creatures and the vastness of Stranglethorn, and it was only then that I realised I had entered an epic and rich gaming world like no other.
That's my "moment".

I've got a couple that stand out.
In Duskwood still a total N00b, playing with friends, and seeing "OMG Mor'Ladim, run!!!" more than once.
But my favourite? Working on the Matron title in AV, sitting in a capped tower waiting on a hordie to come. A Tauren warrior came in and capped back with a /laugh at me. So, there I was, hoping he'd see the Orphan out and let me cap back for achievement, but Nooo Mr. Tauren had to attack while I tried...
So I killed him. /spit :)
And we won.

I once had a pretty grand adventure as a newbie. I couldn't have been any higher than level 25, when I decided to go exploring! A friend of mine had shown me on his map where Ironforge was while I was over, and I thought, if he's been to such far-off places, why shouldn't I travel? So, being in Auberdine and not knowing where any of the boats go (Besides the one to Darnassus), I picked a boat and hopped on it. Unfortunately, I happened to pick the boat to Azuremyst... BEFORE BC had been released. I'm not sure if that was the cause, or if it was because I DC'd while on the boat, but when I got back on a few minutes later my character was in quite a predicament. Specifically, I had been teleported to UNDERNEATH the Stonetalon mountains. I immediately fell to my death. My spirit appeared at the graveyard in the middle of Stonetalon, and I looked at my map and discovered that my body was apparently at the base of Thunder Bluff.
So, rather than Spirit Rezzing, I began the long run to my body. I eventually found the place and rezzed, then began exploring. I was quite nervous to be somewhere in the middle of "horde lands", especially since I didn't really understand PvP or the difference between being flagged and not being flagged, so I was afraid of being attacked by some high level horde. I made my way out into the Barrens and started heading North to try and get back into Ashenvale. I got there, only to find the gate between the Barrens and Ashenvale was guarded by high-level Horde guards! I wound up fleeing from one of them and getting safely away. I hadn't noticed the big, gaping whole in the fence off to the side, so I made my way back into the Barrens to try and find another way. I wandered throughout the Barrens and Durotar (missing the path by the side-entrance to Orgrimmar somehow) and so continued to be "stuck" in horde lands. I even stumbled across Ratchet, but not knowing any better, I assumed that they had to be horde, since this was a horde zone, so I never wandered close enough to realize they were neutral.
After exploring most of Mulgore, the Barrens, and Durotar, I eventually wound up back at the gate between Ashenvale and the Barrens, and this time I noticed the hole and was able to get through safely.
It was quite an exciting way to waste and afternoon for me, and the thrill and adventure of wandering through lands I'd never seen in a world I didn't fully understand has always stuck with me.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this actually, but the future self quest is terrible if you're a caster. I died twice doing it because my future mage self didn't know how to do anything but wack the enemies with his staff, meaning my level 75ish butt had to solo them all by myself with no time to drink or eat in between fights!
Zal Sep 17th 2009 7:48AM
Perhaps it's a self fulfilling prophecy.
You were so annoyed by the quest in the past because Future-You didn't help that when it came time to help Past-You to get some form of revenge on yourself you only used your staff and no spells to show how hard it is for the other you... in the process ensuring the events that will lead up to what you just did.
It becomes an eternal circle. Future-You uses no spells because when they were Past-You they didn't get any help from spells either.
Phew, time travel is confusing.
Inconnel Sep 16th 2009 12:42PM
Happened Late Sat night/early sunday morning this past labor day weekend.
I was on the lvl 80 hunter alt, roaming around Storm Peaks skinning stuff trying to find at least 1 arctic fur.
Was by the abandoned mine across from the cradle of the Iron giant. had just skinned a jormunger and bamm... Skoll re-spawns right in front of me.
I dropped a ice trap and hit Skoll with a concussive shot.. Crap, still had the bear tank out!! Cannot tame the booger. Put bear on passive and ran like a scalded dog. I finally feign death and aggro is wiped.
Used the pet cage and stowed the bear away. Ok, all good. Am going to tame Skoll now. drop ice trap, pop him with a concussive shot, and start the tame. He jumps over/misses the ice trap.. Ohmigod.. forgot to heal up!! It's a race between my health and the channeling of the tame.
Tame channeling completes, he starts to move to my side, and the delayed part of his last spirit attack kills me.
Did I get him..? Oh crap.. at Cemetary, spirit rez. No pet. Oh no.. wait.. use the pet whistle, and the big old electric wolf pops into view as Le Pet. Feed him some worm meat, as I have plenty. Once he goes happy.. jump up and dance around the room. woot.. woot. woot.
Most epic WOW moment ever..
BigBadGooz Sep 16th 2009 12:48PM
The moment for me was a near wipe on ragnaros everyone but me (a priest) casting the finnal smite that lands a killing blow . I never had to fight for a raid spot in that guild again. After that prolly the first level 60 toon in vanila wow killing crap in wpl.
