Around Azeroth: An edge over the competition
Let all hear the testimony of Thrym the Hope Ender! Thrym hear tell of great tournament in mountains. Thrym leave Zul'Drak, come to stadium in Icecrown. Thrym throw all foes into ocean. Thrym thinks he win tournament, go home with mountain of gold, live with many pretty draenei ladies with not much clothing. Then tournament leaders tell Thrym he fail drug test. It not Thrym's fault growth hormone in urine! Thrym not know what was in injections Drakuru give him. Why congressional committee pick on Thrym?
(Thanks to Kavalry and the unknown hunter of Silvermoon-EU who pulled Thrym all the way to the tournament grounds.)

Seriously... this... is... priceless!
Warren Sep 17th 2009 12:48AM
Don't these things have a leash?
rawrawrawr Sep 17th 2009 2:19AM
Clearly not =P

Not if you keep attacking it. A single person with a speed increase (like say, a hunter) and a general knowledge on kiting could pull something with a ton of health (like say, Thrym) all the way to a quite far away place (like say, from Zul'Drak to the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown).

Seeing as how Thrym runs way faster than a hunter with Aspect of the Cheetah (I know because I've tried it), I wonder how this was accomplished.

Did this as a resto druid after seeing this. Took about 20min. The tricky part was getting him there without him dying to guards/overeager observers, and I guess finding the actual path to take.

Yeah, that's the thing that gets me, what path do you even take to get from Zul'drak to the Tournament by foot.
Laynne Sep 17th 2009 10:08AM
Wow, that's awesome. And great write up :-D
Yeng Sep 17th 2009 10:23AM
Hehe, I like the little blurb about the SS. Nice :D
Kotathalas Sep 17th 2009 10:27AM
EPIC!
Spiraea Sep 17th 2009 10:32AM
Sounds like so much work to get him there lol
Shizu Sep 17th 2009 10:48AM

Now THERE'S something worth taking a SS of.
There should be an achievement for stuff like this. "Across Zone Lines" or some such.

Wow...I thought that Blizz had changed things so that you could no longer kite mobs far distances? Didn't they implement some sort of area where once the mob steps out of it, they automatically return to their starting position?
Cyrus Sep 17th 2009 12:03PM
They have to do it on a mob-by-mob basis. I remember way back in vanilla seeing a Servant of Razelikh in IF at the middle of a cloud of guards outside the bank, getting beaten on by NPCs and players but just not dying, and keeping everyone in combat in the meantime. Then, in some patch they changed it so those mobs can't be kited outside the Blasted Lands.
It makes sense not to make it so EVERY mob leashes when they leave their own zone. There are plenty of mobs that happen to be near the edges of zones, like the ravagers on both of the paths out of Hellfire Peninsula, and Blizzard wouldn't want to make it so that you could escape them just by running 10 yards over the invisible edge. And in some situations using guards to help with mobs might be considered a fair, creative use of game mechanics. But still, on massive, invincible or nearly invincible elites around the world, you would think it should be a no-brainer by now to include that "leash at edge of zone" line of code.

Epic
Jason Sep 17th 2009 10:57AM
Now THAT would be an interesting boss fight.
Aaron Sep 17th 2009 11:03AM
I think Blizz just made it so only the attacker(s) can be damaged by a kited foe. In other words, you can kite it where ever you want for as long as you want, but unlike in the good old days, it won't just start killing other players in the area. You used to be able to "gank" members of your own faction by kiting things near them.

I've done this on my server, though not as far. I picked Thyrm up on my pally and ran him all the way to the Argent Stand and killed him so he was lying underneath the main building there, like he was in a tight prison. Thyrm is a big baby, hits for about 1k on good tank gear and does only melee. I was able to back-peddle him there no prob
