Breakfast Topic: It's Brewfest Time

Of course, if you're just one to take it a bit more casually, there's nothing wrong with that either. There's plenty of fun to be had. If you're heading down to Coren Direbrew's place for a shot at a mount or trinket, be sure to check out some of the other fun stuff at the Grim Guzzler.
Also worth noting is that we should see a lot of Violet Protodrakes popping up in game today, especially with the removal of the Brew of the Year achievement. My main is a Death Knight, so I'll have to wait for Hallow's End, but if you were dilligent with your achievements last year, it should be pretty simple to get that drake on Sunday.
But with all that said, it's down to the discussion. I'm interested to hear what your Brewfest plans are. Are you going to be going full bore for Brewmaster? Are you expecting to get your Violet Protodrake before Brewfest is over? Are you going to treat it a bit more casually? Are you ignoring the achievements and just focusing on Coren's mounts? Or are you just going to stay out of the whole thing and hold a real life Brewfest of your own?
| It's Brewmaster or bust, baby! | |
|---|---|
| I may do an achievement or two, but mostly, I'm just going to hang out. | |
| I just want to buy a pony keg! | |
| I'm going to focus on Coren Direbrew. I want a mount! | |
| Are you kidding? If I wanted to go to a Brewfest, I'd go to a real one. |

For those doing the Keg runs, do check out the new locations of apple barrels - they have moved since last year!

Quick guide to running the kegs.
During the run there are two Apple Barrels you will use. The first is by the bridge, barrel (A), and the second is beside the road near Kharanos (B), opposite side to the little gnome house.
Start the run and gallop full speed for (A), as you get to it, jump right next to it - this will keep you moving, but since jumping does not update your position until you land, you are standing next to the barrel for a bit longer.
Turn to the right, and head up the hill, making a beeline for the pickup point. Just before the keg thrower is a two-part wall with a small brazier in the center. Depending on lag, you can pass at various points around this. To be save, just run around the far end of the small wall - if you notice you get the keg before making the turn, you can turn around the brazier or even cut across the first small wall as you make your turn.
The important part now is to head for barrel (B) - you will get to it just as your fatigue hits 90 or 95. If you get slowed, you spend too much time going from (A) to the keg thrower, or went too far to make your turn.
Once you've hit (B), take the half-second detour and return to (A) - it's possible to go from (B), drop off, then back to (A), but it's a close call - closer than your last call at (B).
As you approach the drop off, you want to be heading to the right of the larger tree - just beyond that is a small flag/support in the ground. Rounding this (around a large mammoths distance from the drop off NPC) will get you your two tokens. If your keg doesn't drop, don't stand around waiting, get back to (A) and repeat the drop off leg.

I´m away for a trip so hubby will log on my toon and get the achievement for me. Last year I made a mistake and got the Halloween meta on a different toon and then didn´t have time to get it on the toon that I decided to work for the mount on, so I gotta wait till Hallow´s Eve to get my Drake. But it´s close anyway, so it´s all good.

Already knocked out Brewfest and polished of the meta for the drake last night when the festival fired up. Now to farm BRD for the next two weeks and hope I get a Kodo...

Same here
Babaloo Sep 20th 2009 8:17AM
Damn, why did I have to be levelling during most of the events? I'm definitely getting all of these Brewmaster achievements, I just need the /dance in Dalaran achievement, then I'm done here.

I have to wait til February to get my drake, stupid blizz with there random holidays.....
Eh, what do I care it's just a mount and I'll get it eventually.
Eadipus Sep 20th 2009 8:19AM
Desperate for brewmaster, it's the only title I've ever wanted. Appeals to the ale drinking side of me

The 4min barrel run is killing me....
I practiced it a bit and I managed to cut down to using 2 barrels per run (refreshing 4 times) instead of all 4 barrels I used in the beginning and now I can't do it because of freaking server lag.
I just did the run twice on twinks and it's totally f*cked up, I have to run around the npc for what feels like an eternity to get/drop the damn barrel. Or sometimes I'm in the vicinity of a apple barrle for like 2-3 seconds and still don't get the refreshment buff.
Seeing as this thing is on a 12 hour cooldown, I really don't want to waste this opportunity because of damn lag...

My GF and I discovered that the barrel run is a shared quest, so between us, we were able to get the four barrels despite the chaos.

Just have to labour thru the Brew Club achievement.....
Flec Sep 20th 2009 8:31AM
Well on my first kill of Coren Direbrew i got the Kodo with a roll of 90 and everyone else rolld 10s or 20s...so yeah im rather lucky :D
Bronwyn Sep 20th 2009 1:26PM
We are pretty lucky as well, we had about 14 summons total and we saw 2 kodos and a ram (we're doing it in our group of friends so we can all have more chances at mounts as people pick them up)
Deadly. Off. Topic. Sep 21st 2009 9:55AM
23 tries and 1 ram drop, and one remote. Shanker twice. No kodo.
Iriya Sep 20th 2009 8:33AM
I've already got my Violet Proto-Drake :) I got it on the very first Dark Iron attack cause I rushed to finish everything else before that!
Angus Sep 20th 2009 8:41AM
A better racing guide would be nice. That one was pointed out in the comments to be pretty meh.
Calybos Sep 20th 2009 8:42AM
I'm not level 80, so I CAN'T get all the achievements. Still, there's fun to be had. And pets!
Warren Sep 20th 2009 9:07AM
what barrels are you guys talking about?
SamLowry Sep 20th 2009 2:49PM
The bushel baskets of apples, which eliminate your ram's fatigue.
