Brewfest 2009: Coren Direbrew's new level 80 loot revealed

Let's take a look at his loot, both old and new.
Badge Trinkets
As last year, Coren's main loot is a set of trinkets that are clones of existing badge trinkets with new, Brewfest related names. If you're a new 80 who wants to save up their badges for tier gear, these are perfect for you. Even veterans who've been meaning to pick up some off spec gear should like them. As a warning, the procs from these and their badge counterparts will not stack with each other, although the equipped bonuses will, if you're short on good trinkets. Here's the rundown:
- For physical DPS, there's Coren's Chromium Coaster, which is a clone of the Mirror of Truth.
- Spell casters can grab the Mithril Pocketwatch, which is a clone of Sundial of the Exiled.
- Poor healers are stuck with an Ancient Pickled Egg of all things, which probably smells a sight worse than the Egg of Mortal Essence.
- Tanks get a Brawler's Souvenir, which is a clone of the Valor Medal of the First War. Interestingly enough, there's an exception here in that these two trinkets' cool downs can stack with each other. I'd expect that to get fixed though. Then again, I know I won't be stacking them any time soon, since my trinkets still provide a pretty large part of my defense skill.
There's a few old favorites from last year taking a return as well. You can, of course, still get Direbrew's Remote as well as the Swift Brewfest Ram and Great Brewfest Kodo. Both factions can still get both mounts, and I'm hearing purely anecdotal evidence that they're dropping at pretty good rate this year.
The Barmaids are back this year as well with new level 80 trinkets: The Bitter Balebrew Charm and the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm. The 170 stamina alone makes them pretty nice, but who can resist having their very own Voluptuous Brewmaiden at their beck and call? I know you'll see me in BRD every day until I get my hands on one. As it is the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm will probably beat out the Essence of Gossamer for newbie tanks.
One more item for your approval: The Direbrew Shanker 2.0. Despite the unoriginal name, you probably shouldn't underestimate this dagger. It packs a pretty big wallop for its ilevel. Of course, it also looks like a broken bottle, so you should totally feel free to steal it from Rogues for RP. Totally.
No matter what you want to get your hands on, though, you only have around 2 weeks, so you'd best get cracking. We'll see you at the Grim Guzzler!

We took 7 shots at him and didn't see a mount. Still anecdotal, but it sucked. Especially getting two Eggs with the only healer being a druid (505 is aproximately TWICE the Resto Druid softcap if they're specced into that 3% Haste Balance talent, and it's not like we wouldn't have any on our gear already.)

7 shots on the first day? Common courtesy is to only kill him 5 times per day, per character, so that everybody in your party gets the full 5 chances. If you go back with another group to get a few extra attempts, you're stealing from all of them by giving them each one fewer attempt than they are entitled to - just for the sake of selfishly increasing your own number of attempts.

@LilBanshee: I killed him over 20 times yesterday. With the same group. We all switched to our alts so that we could get in more tries. Just because someone killed him more than 5 times doesn't mean they're stealing tries from other people. :)

@LilBanshee
Some people like to switch out to an alt so their friends can get an extra chance at the mounts, so it's probably best not to assume that they randomly invited 2 more different people and had them sacrafice their summons.
LilBanshee Sep 21st 2009 9:29AM
True, that. 7 just seemed like a strange number; if he'd said 10 or 15 I wouldn't have commented.
LilBanshee Sep 21st 2009 12:45PM
Firestride replied but it didn't get posted right - they pulled in two alts to get 1 run apiece, rather than take those alts with a separate group to get 5 runs apiece.
Firestride Sep 21st 2009 3:03PM
That was annoying, and thank you LilBanshee:
Firestride Sep 21st 2009 11:11AM
Wow, quite the little controversy. Yes, there were 2 people with 1 alt each. So, really, if not every one has a 75+ alt, 7 is no more a weird number than 10.
Turlagh Sep 21st 2009 11:57PM
He had extra runs because I didn't use mine. (???)

The Egg's secondary effect currently says "Use" on Wowhead, but apparently it's a typo and should be Equip.
Thelanor Sep 20th 2009 8:05PM
The two stamina trinkets are actually some of the highest in the game right now, aside from very late game raiding.
I'd expect to see a large number of tanks using them.
furriusmurrius Sep 20th 2009 8:11PM
I'd expect only the NEW tanks to use these, as there is no secondary effect. Even Gossamer's proc for the shield is better than the extra 50 or so stamina...it's really a toy and nothing more.
devilsei Sep 20th 2009 8:29PM
Furrius, I'd have to disagree. Extra stam in the Champs fight in ToC would be great, and considering the bright brew's use effect, would probably be very nice. Tank could easily switch a trinket out for this one, since unless they are kiting, wont be hit constantly. The 20k in 30 secs it gives out would help out on the healers, as would the extra stam, as long as they dont knock her around.
Angus Sep 21st 2009 1:29AM
You are joking, right?
Gossamer's proc is a joke, it was taken almost purely for the stamina. I have the black heart and this now. And the use effect can be kinda funny.
No, the 50 stamina ends up being a LOT more than 50 and a large portions of tanks will replace gossamer without even blinking. I'd keep the black heart over it just for 3% more reduction from armor when black heart procs as that against a guy hitting for 20K is actually a significant proc. But this easily replaced the defense trinket.
Valt Sep 21st 2009 3:24AM
Like one of our main tanks said "use them for pugs because they don't give a shit about effective health, trinket procs or their use effects, they only want to see your HP". And hes right about that too.
Btw its nice to notice how huge step for stamina it was from BC. In BC those trinkets were 45 stamina now they are whopping 170.
coldthing Sep 21st 2009 4:27PM
as a tank i was happy to get one of the stam trinkets to replace my dodge trinket. it brings me up to 35k unbuffed and my mana regen is much better now that i'm actually getting hit instead of seeing a constant dodge/dodge/parry/dodge/dodge in my combat log
Wyred Sep 21st 2009 5:39AM
Could not believe the stam bonus when I ran this last night on my healer main. My tank alt will now be farming this as a replacement for essence of gossamer
Hal Sep 21st 2009 10:56AM
And until patch 3.2.2 hits, that extra hundred stam from having both trinkets is a nice dose of extra threat for pally tanks.

So, the question is: do these trinkets share an internal cooldown with their emblem counterparts?
I already know that the buffs don't stack, but...
Avan Sep 20th 2009 10:29PM
From what I've heard, ICDs are not triggered. The buff duration was actually refreshed, I'm told.
Fudomyo Sep 21st 2009 8:15AM
Just confirming that these DO share an internal cooldown with the emblem of heroism trinkets. Got one and tested it with the Mirror of Truth on - procs would happen with an interval of 45~50 seconds between them.
The Banner of Victory, however, is an entirely different matter: not only these don't share an ICD, but several sources mention both buffs stacking on a couple of ocasions. A nice way of getting 2 good entry level physical dps trinkets woulde be killing Coren a few times and then running ToC reg till the banner drops...
