Brewfest 2009: Coren Direbrew's new level 80 loot revealed

Let's take a look at his loot, both old and new.
Badge Trinkets
As last year, Coren's main loot is a set of trinkets that are clones of existing badge trinkets with new, Brewfest related names. If you're a new 80 who wants to save up their badges for tier gear, these are perfect for you. Even veterans who've been meaning to pick up some off spec gear should like them. As a warning, the procs from these and their badge counterparts will not stack with each other, although the equipped bonuses will, if you're short on good trinkets. Here's the rundown:
- For physical DPS, there's Coren's Chromium Coaster, which is a clone of the Mirror of Truth.
- Spell casters can grab the Mithril Pocketwatch, which is a clone of Sundial of the Exiled.
- Poor healers are stuck with an Ancient Pickled Egg of all things, which probably smells a sight worse than the Egg of Mortal Essence.
- Tanks get a Brawler's Souvenir, which is a clone of the Valor Medal of the First War. Interestingly enough, there's an exception here in that these two trinkets' cool downs can stack with each other. I'd expect that to get fixed though. Then again, I know I won't be stacking them any time soon, since my trinkets still provide a pretty large part of my defense skill.
There's a few old favorites from last year taking a return as well. You can, of course, still get Direbrew's Remote as well as the Swift Brewfest Ram and Great Brewfest Kodo. Both factions can still get both mounts, and I'm hearing purely anecdotal evidence that they're dropping at pretty good rate this year.
The Barmaids are back this year as well with new level 80 trinkets: The Bitter Balebrew Charm and the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm. The 170 stamina alone makes them pretty nice, but who can resist having their very own Voluptuous Brewmaiden at their beck and call? I know you'll see me in BRD every day until I get my hands on one. As it is the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm will probably beat out the Essence of Gossamer for newbie tanks.
One more item for your approval: The Direbrew Shanker 2.0. Despite the unoriginal name, you probably shouldn't underestimate this dagger. It packs a pretty big wallop for its ilevel. Of course, it also looks like a broken bottle, so you should totally feel free to steal it from Rogues for RP. Totally.
No matter what you want to get your hands on, though, you only have around 2 weeks, so you'd best get cracking. We'll see you at the Grim Guzzler!

Actually it looks like he scaled about right... the difference is in gear availability.

We did it on some of our level 75-78 alts for lulz and didnt have a problem with it at all nobody came close to death. We all picked up some nice trinkets for when we hit 80 too, sadly no mount drop out of the 12 times we killed him.

Downed this boss not 5 times, but 127 times today. We had a warlock, mage, a healer and myself and I went to dal after every kill and found a new person willing to fork over their summon for us. I didn't think a lot of players would do this but 122 didn't mind. I'd say about 30 of them were from people logging onto their alts.
Anyway, we had all the trinkets drop numerous times, I got my hands on every one of them. I also nabbed the remote. We only saw 3 remotes drop in 127 kills, and 2 of them went to people that were summoned in to help up.
We didn't see any kodos drop, but we did see a ram, and sure enough one of the people we summoned in got it!
And believe it or not, we NEVER saw the dagger. Not once.

Ran it on two toons early this morning. Priest run saw 3 of the brawler trinkets and the pocketwatch drop. Forget what was the 5th drop but could have been another brawler one. Ran it again with my DK and was 3 eggs, 1 remote, 1 maiden and a pocketwatch. Missed the daily reset timer by 4 minutes so wasn't able to double up on the priest runs. One I ran the second time with said the maiden dropped 4 times in the prior group they were in on their alt.

As many people have said, the boss is kinda not fun anymore.
Yes, him dazing the tank sucked and could wipe you, but not even noticing the adds, the maidens barely annoying you and the disarm/whirlwind being such a joke that an enhance shaman didn't even need to use a cooldown and was above 50% (and they tend to die in WWs if they don't use them) was sad. I mean we did him 5 times in less time than twice last year.
My only guess is that Direbrew drank so much over the last year that he's in a perpetual state of inebriation and it has hurt his abilities.
Yes, I would like everybody to be able to kill this boss even the REALLY bad players, but come on, there should not be a boss so easy 5 terrible players can manhandle with no effort.

Say what you want about the game, man, but don't rag on booze.

LOL. well played.
I retract my comments about drinking too much.
If Coren was a REAL dwarf he could handle his liquor.
Wuss.
That better?
=)

I know that Corin's lewtz are the welfariest of welfare epics...but I was still kind of disapointed they were just clones of the heroism badge trinkets. In other words...I really need to find a replacement for my Grim Toll :/
Euan Sep 21st 2009 5:23AM
Might be a bit dull, but it's not really a huge surprise - the previous non-sta trinkets were re-hashes of the Justice Badger trinkets.
Azizrael Sep 21st 2009 2:29AM
Did him 7 or 8 times... the Ram dropped on the first run, at least 4 stamina trinkets, saw the phys. DPS trinket twice and the caster trinket once... which a Ret. Pally need rolled on. Not that into farming the mount so I dunno if I'll go back, the Egg on my Holy Pala would come in handy I guess.
Aymuhdroowud Sep 21st 2009 2:38AM
Not really, they reduced the # of adds that spawn and took away the mechanics of the maidens. That has nothing to do with gear availability.
Potvorka Sep 21st 2009 2:40AM
ppl cry that he is easy :-D But you even forgot the big diferencies between fresh 80 and equiped :) Fresh pala tank - hitcapped has around 26k unbuffed i think, quite good equiped has 33+ k and buffed more than 40k hp :)
Fresh DPS lvl80 what just dinged around 1300 dps (DK and hunters more) equiped lvl80 3500+ dps :-)

in the spirit of brewfest i did Coren with some pug at 4 am in the morning after rolling out of a pub. pretty much it was a trinket fest, the dps one twice, the doge one twice and the egg. But well, he WAS easy. Ok i'm in the epic gear collection with my hunter but I just was face rolling through it. Did it again later, mounts, the maiden twice, i got a remote, yay, and sober he was just as easy

Looks like I'll be sharding my Mirror of Truth and keeping the clone that drops here that I can't shard.
Joequincy Sep 21st 2009 6:54AM
We've got a group with at least 2 alts per person... and between all our attempts (over 30 thus far, after 2 days) we've yet to see the mount drop. That purely anecdotal evidence is combating pretty harshly with my own anecdotal evidence :(
Sri Sep 21st 2009 8:19AM
I've run it around 12-14 times, we've seen the ram drop 4 times and the kodo 2, lost it every time. Random loot IS random, I guess, judging from those who haven't seen it yet, but I got the impression that the drop rate might be just a BIT higher this year.
Christopher Sep 21st 2009 8:29AM
It's easy. But it really seems to be tuned for upper 70s and fresh 80s, not epic'd out 80s like most of us already are. My groups all killed him in 30 seconds but then again none of the trinkets are upgrades for me.
Hoha Sep 21st 2009 8:49AM
After having farming for Banner of Victory for weeks and having seen it only once, (where it was ninja'd by a resto druid) I was pleasantly surprised to have Coren's Chromium Coaster drop. FEAR MY BEER COASTER!
Manorton Sep 21st 2009 9:04AM
18 Kills yesterday and we had the Ram drop. Not to bad. Will be back to farming the trinket machine today. :P I still want a Kodo!
