Brewfest 2009: Coren Direbrew's new level 80 loot revealed

Let's take a look at his loot, both old and new.
Badge Trinkets
As last year, Coren's main loot is a set of trinkets that are clones of existing badge trinkets with new, Brewfest related names. If you're a new 80 who wants to save up their badges for tier gear, these are perfect for you. Even veterans who've been meaning to pick up some off spec gear should like them. As a warning, the procs from these and their badge counterparts will not stack with each other, although the equipped bonuses will, if you're short on good trinkets. Here's the rundown:
- For physical DPS, there's Coren's Chromium Coaster, which is a clone of the Mirror of Truth.
- Spell casters can grab the Mithril Pocketwatch, which is a clone of Sundial of the Exiled.
- Poor healers are stuck with an Ancient Pickled Egg of all things, which probably smells a sight worse than the Egg of Mortal Essence.
- Tanks get a Brawler's Souvenir, which is a clone of the Valor Medal of the First War. Interestingly enough, there's an exception here in that these two trinkets' cool downs can stack with each other. I'd expect that to get fixed though. Then again, I know I won't be stacking them any time soon, since my trinkets still provide a pretty large part of my defense skill.
There's a few old favorites from last year taking a return as well. You can, of course, still get Direbrew's Remote as well as the Swift Brewfest Ram and Great Brewfest Kodo. Both factions can still get both mounts, and I'm hearing purely anecdotal evidence that they're dropping at pretty good rate this year.
The Barmaids are back this year as well with new level 80 trinkets: The Bitter Balebrew Charm and the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm. The 170 stamina alone makes them pretty nice, but who can resist having their very own Voluptuous Brewmaiden at their beck and call? I know you'll see me in BRD every day until I get my hands on one. As it is the Bubbling Brightbrew Charm will probably beat out the Essence of Gossamer for newbie tanks.
One more item for your approval: The Direbrew Shanker 2.0. Despite the unoriginal name, you probably shouldn't underestimate this dagger. It packs a pretty big wallop for its ilevel. Of course, it also looks like a broken bottle, so you should totally feel free to steal it from Rogues for RP. Totally.
No matter what you want to get your hands on, though, you only have around 2 weeks, so you'd best get cracking. We'll see you at the Grim Guzzler!

I ran this 45 times yesterday. Made 9 different groups with 9 different characters each getting the full 5 runs. Of my 3 tanks, two of them got 1 stamina trinket and one got both. Very lucky there. Saw three mounts drop but lost the roll each time. No remotes dropped. No daggers dropped. Lots of other trinkets. Between all my attempts, I walked away with 10 role-appropriate iLevel 200 trinkets, and that's just the first day. Brewfest rocks. It's when us non-raiders play catch-up with our undergeared alts!

You don't count dragon's eyes as part of an item. Replacing the item doesn't suddenly make you able to have fewer dragon's eye gems, you're going to have 3 regardless. What you lose is the other gems that you will be replacing with new dragon's eyes. So at most you lose 60 stamina from two epic stamina gems being replaced, plus 63 more from the trinket itself for a total of -123 stamina. Since the seasonal trinket is +170 stamina, there's really no question that it is better for your health total, it's an extra 470 health before even taking into account talents that increase how much health you get from stamina, let alone blessing of kings. Also bear in mind there are two different trinkets with +170 stamina, so you can wear both of them for even better stamina improvements.

This was in response to "Any thoughts on the barmaid vs. Monarch crab with 2 solid dragons eyes for a protadin?"

I did the full set of 5 summons on each of my 4 80s yesterday. I think we saw the stamina trinkets about 87 times. Seriously, 2-3 drops out of each set of 5 was a stam trinket. We saw no remotes, one kodo. My Warrior tank that I finally pulled out of mothballs got both the stam trinkets tho, pushing him past 28k unbuffed. Still trying to get rid of my wyrmrest chest and AC legs, but the drops refuse me. Black Heart refuses to drop too.

A bit of a push over, even with new 80s with more enthusiasm than skill (but I love them anyways) and no mounts. The trinkets were nice easy upgrades for some people and great for the alts we brought, but I am very impatient for a ram. I need my Troll to look ridiculous on that sheep :3

I've had 5 of the stam trinkets drop over 2 days (7 runs)...we've had 1 Coaster and (I think) 1 pocketwatch. Haven't seen a remote or mounts yet--but the holiday is still young!
Thundrcrackr Sep 21st 2009 10:34AM
For anyone complaining that this boss is easy, i think you are forgetting its a HOLIDAY boss that drops LOW LEVEL epics/novelty items. It's only here for 2 weeks so its supposed to be relatively painless and easy. If you want hard, got back to ToC and leave the holiday loot for the rest of us.

There is a difference between easy and so utterly simple a braindead slug can manage it.
Last night:
Tankadin went ret in gear and kept the prot spec.
DK went tanking in dps gear with blood presence on.
Hunter was in melee. (He came in 3rd on DPS!)
Boomkin healed in caster form
Holy priest went DPS.
We killed him before the 3rd drill came up.
After that we had the crab tank.
Now if we can simply have a hunter's pet tank the boss and no one notices, it might be too easy...
Yes, the loot is easy, but they could have made you actually use more than autoattack for it.
Thundrcrackr Sep 22nd 2009 11:45AM
If it was THAT easy, then you obviously don't need any of the gear and are only doing it for the achievement or mounts.
The simple fact is that holiday bosses are designed for all 80s, not just epiced out 80s. And there is just too huge of a difference between a fresh 80 in greens and blues and an Ulduar or better geared 80. There is NO way Blizz can tune a boss so its the "perfect" difficulty for both groups. They have to default to the low end for holiday bosses because they're supposed to be there for everyone. If you're looking to holiday bosses for a challenge you're looking in the wrong place. Like I said before, the hard stuff is in the current end game raids, so until they stick a holiday boss in one of those, there's no point in complaining.

Wow, quite the little controversy. Yes, there were 2 people with 1 alt each. So, really, if not every one has a 75+ alt, 7 is no more a weird number than 10.
impurezero Sep 21st 2009 12:40PM
WTF? Why was swampsquatch's comment downrated?
(And the circle of life continues.)
impurezero Sep 21st 2009 12:42PM
And, of course this lame joke would have been much less lame in context.
If there's anything about the comment system that actually DOES need fixing, it's this stupid "Reply" button that only works half the time...
LilBanshee Sep 21st 2009 12:46PM
The reply button hates me too, I feel your pain.

My 80 holy pally picked up the Mithril Pocketwatch because nobody else needed it and the crit was better than the crappy trinket he currently has (alt). It was proccing off of beneficial holy shocks and sacred shields. A very pleasant surprise that I figure will be fixed soon...

Yay trinkets! My guild ran it with rotating in a bunch of alts. Only saw the kodo drop once so far, no ram. My hunter and priest (my main two raiding toons) didn't need any of the trinkets, but I got two tanking trinkets and the physical DPS one for my DK alt, and picked up the pocketwatch for my 76 mage for when she hits 80. I have a 70 druid that I'm hoping can pick up a few trinkets towards the end when everyone else has them already.
Caw Sep 21st 2009 2:23PM
The "shame on you" part was actually meant in a humorous way. I don't really think anyone would seriously get their panties in a knot over a missing item.
Hagen Sep 21st 2009 2:38PM
What is the minimum level needed to summon him?
Thundrcrackr Sep 21st 2009 2:53PM
People seem to like to stroke their epeens by downrating stuff they don't agree with. It must make them feel better about their own comments. The REPLY button is there for you to express how you feel about a certain comment. Downrating is supposed to be for spam, double posts, off topic posts, racist or otherwise innappropriate posts. If everyone just blacks out stuff they don't agree with then no one can read anything and then whats the point of us being here in the first place?
Hopleaf Sep 21st 2009 2:55PM
Got my mount on the 4th try. (the ram) \and also another 2 guildies got the ram to.
RetadinMan Sep 21st 2009 3:40PM
So.... would it be possible for me to get a few 80's to down him?
