[Updated] No Wolpertinger and Pink Elekk quests for Europe

We usually think that the U.S. is more prudish about these kinds of non-violent topics than Europe, but obviously that is not the case here. Personally, I think these quests are pretty innocuous and the near blindness you get when you get hammered in-game isn't exactly encouraging young drunkenness. But I do see how some would disagree with me.
We are researching this, but in the meantime, do you know which region(s) are causing the removal of these Brewfest quests from Europe?
Update: Wednesday morning before the restart, many people were able to do these quests. But after the restart, the quests disappeared again as intended. It looks as though those who did the quests were able to keep their tokens.

Why the hell does the rest of Europe have to pay for one country's shitty politicians!? We ALWAYS get screwed ffs. Blizz, stop being lazy, and just make it so German servers can't do those quests, or the country's players not able to take the quest, whatever.

I can't even get it on a US server (Thrall, Alliance). I did this quest the first day, and haven't seen it pop up since then.
lockanon Sep 22nd 2009 5:52PM
That would be because it's not a daily quest....

it's shocking.
because wow is full of "you have to drink a lot of alcohol", I couldn't imagine it would need a 16+ stuff.
but, yes, little by little, thought policy is here, France, Germany, UK, anywhere.
why ? because WOW is a kiddie game played by adults.
-
One day, maybe game creators will accept to recognize that.
Fantasy with stubborn dwarf, ugly montruosity eating people Zombies and pervers deamon are not kiddy stuff.
but still, everything is "carebear-ized" for kid can still play and adults accept to play in a kiddy storie.
-
Wow should be at least 16+ and _accept_ and _embrace_ that.
Even Disney sometimes have to drop the mask and make a R movie (even if it's not under the disney label).

They could have just rated WoW 16+ to start with and 12 year olds would still be playing it anyway, just like all the FPS. That way they can at least get rid of all the regulations and let the devs do whatever they want.

Grats on godwinning the thread.
And GG Blizz for denying part of your customers some fun and entertaining game content, yet again.
Oh and EU & Blizz you fail. Get your collective heads out of you know what already.
The world rocks but countries suck.
Goodnight.

Honestly, I consider drinking and Brewfest to be one of the more difficult parts of the game to accept from a moral perspective. All the killing quests while certainly a bit more of an ethical concern, there's a good bit more fantasy involved in that than in drinking, which for most folks is far more attainable than a mass killing spree.
Unless there's a snake-whacking day in your home town I suppose.
Not that I'm rampantly crusading against it in game or out, but I'd be fine if there was a WOW server without drinking, and no Brewfest event. Heck, I'd be happy with a server where they tried to maintain a bit more of a G-rating. I can be as uncouth as you like in Raid or Guild chat, but some of the language in General and Trade are a problem...

What gets me about this is that you don't have to drink anything to complete the quests, as the brewfest vendor offers so called "Synthbrew Goggles" for free (i remember him saying something along the lines of "if you don't like to drink, then i can give you these goggles"). These goggles simulate being drunk (you can't walk straight, they also give you wicked tunnel vision) and can be used to see Elekk and Wolpertingers.
Kittens Sep 22nd 2009 7:11PM
Yes, this. So, they made the goggles to get fake-drunk, I presume to make it 'acceptable' to those who won't or shouldn't drink. We get the goggles in Europe too, and the achievements which require you to be drunk are available here as well. So why not the quest? What is the difference? They could even just have altered the quest text a little to just have it say 'use these goggles' and leave out the being drunk part. I think it's pretty silly to leave all the other drunken quests and achievs as they are, yet edit these two quests out.
I would have loved to do those quests, just for the fun of it.
And yes, it's only 40 tokens but I think we should get them. If you are someone who wants to buy and keep everything from the brewfest vendor, chances are you need these tokens. Not everybody can do the dailies every day, not everybody can get the hang of ram racing and make 22-30 tokens from it (but in this case.. they should just read up a little on the racing and strategies for it probably).

Weirdly Europe still has the quest where we batter iron dwarves over the head with empty cups, having drunk them empty first. Also, we previously did have the wolpertinger quest brewfest before last. Consistency has left the building

There should be smoking ingame. I mean, the legal age for smoking is lower in most states than drinking age, and Blizzard has no problem putting a drink in players' hands.
Rolling a doobie would have to go under First Aid skills (i.e. medicinal), and the toke would be a buff to remember (or perhaps forget).

I'm wondering when Weedfest, Crackfest and Smackfest are coming out.
As a non-drinker, I really can't see any difference between the promotion of harmful and addictive drugs to teenagers on the thin justificaiton that it's a legal drug (in some countries) as for most of them it's still illegal to drink as well. Worse still, it's all promoted as a harmless fun time. Try living with an alchoholic, fun it aint.
About time Blizzard started reconsidering its alcohol addiction or at least gave equal time to other drugs.
unigolyn Sep 23rd 2009 1:16AM
Yes! Remove alcohol from the game! Also remove food from the game! There are many people who are morbidly obese and are cutting their life expectancy in half!
brownyboi Sep 23rd 2009 2:28AM
@unigolyn
Please delete you post quickly - if anyone from the UK government (or a Daily Mail reader) sees it, then we're all screwed...
WoW will be offline for ages whilst it's patched to remove food, alcohol, knives, pots and flasks (don't do drugs...)
Then we'll have to go off and play WoW on US servers until we can have the game back.
Wyred Sep 23rd 2009 2:59AM
Yeah, WoW should probably stop promoting hitting people over the head with a [Huge Fucking Axe], as it's illegal for most teenagers to do so in their countries.

One thing I didn't see discussed in the comments was that the wolpertinger quest didn't get mentioned... but you need the wolpertinger for the achievement. So unless you already had it from last year, you're out of luck.
As to the discussion of ratings, in America the ratings are advisory, but unless I missed something, not legally binding. In Europe, the ratings are binding under law (look up the BBFC sometimes about movies). Of course if you really want crazy, look up New Zealand and banning certain video games.
I imagine if Blizzard wanted a 12+ rating in a system which has the force of law, they either have to change the game to comply with the law, change the rating or no longer be playable in Europe. I would imagine the first option is the least difficult in Blizzard's view.
staffan.johansson Sep 22nd 2009 11:35PM
The Wolpertinger pet is not a problem, as you can buy it for a few silver from one of the Brewfest vendors. But the whole thing is ridiculous anyway.
Amaxe Sep 23rd 2009 10:21AM
Ah, in America it is a quest item this year. Well at least that part of it is ok then.
Tbah Sep 23rd 2009 1:48AM
My bet lies on the Near Eastern countries. The EU version is played very widely, namely in Europe, Africa and parts of western Asia. That includes many, many nations, cultures and religions.
