Race changes "coming soon"

Although race changes were confirmed some time back, we received a couple of messages from readers tipping us off to the actual Race Change button being up on the Account Management page, falling under the Paid Services tab. How soon 'Coming Soon!' actually is, we can only guess. It's Blizzard, after all. Besides, Cataclysm promised us new races, and it should be interesting to see if Blizzard will allow changing to either a Goblin or a Worgen. It's possible that it won't be allowed at first to encourage players to try out the new starting areas, but Blizzard has been rather surprising as of late. Personally, I can't wait to trade up from Blood Elf pale to Orc green.
Thanks to Ryan and Tuttutt for the heads up!

Thank goodness. I'm tired of my Taurens having to duck all time.
jellyphish Sep 22nd 2009 9:06AM
Any word on a price tag?
jellyphish Sep 22nd 2009 9:50AM
And also, I assume it comes with the whole re-customization, like name change and all that jazz? questions questions...impatience is a terrible virtue.

I'd assume its a similar price to the faction transfer as they are both doing kinda the same thing.
Then again it may be slightly cheaper but i can't see it being more expensive

It can't come soon enough. I rolled gnome cause they are cute and I get ganked constantly! Leave gnomes alone. QQ I really can't wait to make a change. :)

NO! NO GNOMES MAY CHANGE.
You will not escape your KoS status that easily.

Total deaths from opposite faction 1010. Just pulled that from my armory page. Ugh.

I only gank NE's because as I was leveling they were pretty much all that ganked me. Hell the only Alliance players who didn't kill me every chance they got were gnomes.

I've always wanted a gnome priest(and paladin) so when I heard about the new race combos I figured I would wait until Cataclysm comes out to level a priest. I've been wanting to get Benediction before everything is revamped though.
Looks like I'll be leveling a dwarf priest then doing a race change once the expansion goes live.

There is ZERO logical explanation for gnomes not to become paladins if they do become followers of the light. Why was it we were told at Blizzcon one of the reasons for extending race/class combos (“we want to see more dwarfs”) was to see a more diversity, yet humans, the most boring overplayed class of vanilla wow races is getting hunters? Does the Alliance really need more hunters or more humans?
I can’t imagine any of the paladin character animations aren’t already ingame for gnomes. Shield moves, two handed moves, heals…
I really wish there was some official explanation for the gnomes being shorted and yet an entire storyline is being implemented for tauren paladin, which is a ridiculous stretch, even if it is one I think I am enjoying.
Hunters/Shaman/Druids all see a little farfetched for gnomes either because they are too scatterbrained to maintain a pet if some cute rubik’s cube comes along, or their mechanical origins are in stark contrast to speaking to the elements or with nature, but if a gnome can seek perfection through the holy light as a priest, why in the world can he not do so as a paladin, especially one who returns home from Northrend crushed by the truth of his past, and chooses to seek a new path?
Blizzard, PLEASE GIVE US GNOME PALADINS!
Endless Sep 22nd 2009 10:08AM
Gnomes can't be holy, because they are vile and sinister! No paladins for ya! *cackles*

Gnome pally? How about gnome Druid :D
imagine the cute little kitties and boomkins!

Jellyphish, I would guess the race change is anywhere from $15 to $30.

I hope the class change option is not too far behind.

The fact is that despite the moderate bonuses given by racials, race is more of a cosmetic thing than a gameplay thing. Sure, min-maxes will pay money to have that extra edge, but most people who take advantage of this service will do it for cosmetic reasons.
Class, on the other hand, is much more than cosmetic. Which class you play affects how you play and what roles you play. If class became a mostly cosmetic thing too (which would be a sad day, indeed) then I could see class change happening, but for now, I'd say it's very unlikely.

You'd probably see the ability to make your new alts start at level 55 or something similar before you'd see paid class changes. Even that is (hopefully) highly unlikely. People need to learn to play their class before unleashing themselves on the pugging public ^_^

Not getting why so many ppl are against a class change option. It's not like someone else able to switch classes is going to change your game play. Think about this....
Take a bad player who switches from death knight to a warrior. The bad player is now just a bad warrior. Now take a good player who plays a priest who switches to a paladin. The good player will research talents, glyphs, hit/heal rotations. Very soon the newly switched paladin will be good too. Point being a good gamer picks up on mechanics very fast no matter what class or game they play.
Leveling is not a way to learn your class. I have played with plenty of bad level 80s and great level 30s.
Endless Sep 22nd 2009 10:25AM
Bring the class change, indeed! For all I care, I'm willing to level the new class from the start, I just want to keep my mounts, rep, achievements and pets.
What about a compromise: exactly one class change allowed for each character, and only between the same type of class (chain to chain, leather to leather, cloth to cloth, plate to plate). That'd fend off min-maxers but still it'd provide you a chance to revitalize an alt you're bored with, without losing the progression.

O God I hope not! Can you imagine a bunch of noobs changing classes at level 80?! It would be horrible.
