WoW Moviewatch: Warrior's Dream
Sam Pierce, the director and producer for Slashdance, dropped us a note to let us know the final, full-length cut of Warrior's Dream is available. And every moment of this breathtaking video is gorgeous. The video scored 3rd place at the BlizzCon 2009 machinima contest, and it's easy to see how it did so well.
Like many BlizzCon machinima entries, Warrior's Dream was originally released in a smaller, 3-minute version in order to conform with the contest guidelines. Now that the contest is over, the Slashdance group retooled the video to its better paced, full featured glory.
This video is just absolutely wonderful. While the authors provide interpretation for the Fantasia-like framing, I'd recommend watching the video before you read that summary. The words "wonder" and "fantasy" can't describe this video adequately, since it really is a soaring, imaginative journey through Northrend. For me, it manages to capture the "wow!" and "look at that!" in the World of Warcraft, and does so in an open, embracing approach.
It's a great movie, and one worth sharing with friends. As a final note, this is a video I immediately shared with both WoW friends and non-WoW friends. It's a beautiful film, and one I think most people will enjoy.

I think my entire opinion of this can be summed up as the following:
Holy crap, a female Tauren as the love interest instead of a female Blood Elf?
Worlds are ending.

What a simple idea taken to such a beautifully complex level. The plot is easy to understand while being relatable and the visuals are just plain fun. I’m sure we’ve all had dreams that are this fun yet weird.
Plus, Tauren are just awesome. He chose a great race to make a video of.

Dancing moo moo's FTW!

That was beautiful and imaginative. I enjoyed it very much, until the ghastly music over the credits broke the mood - if only I had stopped before then...

It's still amazing what beautiful things people manage to make out of the old engine and visuals, the all-too-well-known animations and art style. This is really neat!

Fantastic video :) though I have to admit the bronze turning into the tauren himself made me jump!
I'm glad she didn't fall for the human in the end.

Wow, that was just absolutely beautiful. Insta-fave.

Awesome. Should have been first place, if by virtue of having a tauren protagonist alone ;)
I loved how the dream sequence turned on a dime, and the dragon he was questing to save the druid from turned out to be the warrior himself. Plus, how he later envisioned himself as the armor-clad hero fighting the same scaly beast, er, Swoop. ;)

the story arc was meh, questions i had that i couldn't see answers for in the movie:
what was the warrior training for?
why was the warrior dreaming that he was a druid?
why did he go to northrend?
why didn't he use any transportation?
who was the druid lady?
why did he turn into a dragon?
why was the druid lady healing the human warrior?
is there any significance in any of this?
the editing and cinematography was cool, but honestly i think that was the point of this video; to show off the camera angles. meh.
i liked the credits better than the actual story though, they were fun!

What was the Warrior training for?
He was training to be a warrior.
Why was the warrior dreaming that he was a druid?
Because the woman he had a crush on was a druid. He was fantasizing about magic that he did not have.
Why did he go to Northrend?
Because in his dream, he saw the druid lady being attacked by a dragon.
Who was the druid lady?
A woman he saw training that he developed a crush on, that he proceeded to have a dream about.
Why did he turn into a dragon?
Because the dream became a nightmare. At the start of the dream, he saw the woman scared of a dragon, and he went to save her. By the end of the dream, it turned out that he was the dragon that she was scared of.
Why was the Druid Lady healing the human warrior?
Because in the Warrior's nightmare, he had became a dragon, and the human was fighting him off. The druid lady viewing him as a monster, and betraying him to help the people fighting him, made it more nightmarish.
:D

"What was the warrior training for"
He was at the target dummies practicing. Its hard to say if he was there to practice being a warrior though, since the other 3 all had Druids on them. He could have been there to try a different job, or maybe just check out his Crush/love interest ala "Uh, I'm just here practicing... *gulp*

I'm full of questions without answers. Really classy movie, though.

This movie was incredibly gorgeous!
Loved it from start to end.
Bravo! Great work!

.... (part of my post got cut off oops!)
To back up the possibility that he may have been checking out Druidism, later in the movie when he wakes up. A Druid waves to him as if to say "Hey, you training with us today? Class is in session! " and he does the /no "Not going to happen!" emote.
And Awwh to the heal at the end.

And the message I take from this story is that all warriors secretly dream of being druids.
