3 Point Entertainment (makers of
the official World of Warcraft steins) has released a brand new stein, modeled after
the epic Brewfest mug the
Tankard o' Terror. As you can see above, this beauty of a brewholder is much different from the other mugs -- it's made to look exactly like the ingame item, even though that means it's more angled than curved and a little bit primitive-looking. It's also a huge piece of stoneware, standing over nine inches tall and weighing four pounds. I don't know that you'd ever want to drink anything out of it, but I guess, fittingly for a tanking tankard, if you hit someone over the head with it, they'd feel it.
Alex will be able to tell us what that's like, as he's
already got one ordered. This mug is also much cheaper than the other mugs -- it's only $39.99 (as if "only" was a fitting adjective for a purchase like this), which means that 3 Point has probably heard your complaining here in our comments sections and decided to offer up a lower price point option. I won't be going for this one, but the idea of replicating Azerothian cookery in real-life is intriguing. I might buy a
Cookie's Tenderizer if I had the chance.

Strahl Sep 24th 2009 4:11PM
I found the source button just fine, and it took me to their homepage :)
Gnosh Sep 24th 2009 4:16PM
Fail, I didn't even know that Source link was there until now. I'd seen it before, but it never clicked.
jeff Sep 24th 2009 5:02PM
It always annoyed me to know end they would talk about something and have 40k links to their own articles and maybe one linked to the site in question but probably not, and you had to mouse over them all to find it.
I always thought source would give you HTML code you could paste into your site to link back, haha.

Jeeze, it says it has a 2 liter capacity.
That might be too big of a mug
kooda Sep 24th 2009 4:21PM
Read, nearly. Still pretty awesome, i guess its cheaper because there's not as much paint on it?
Mistat Sep 24th 2009 4:30PM
I don't know, I'm of the opinion that you can NEVER have too much capacity in a stein. Although, I do have to admit, the potential of spilling that much more when hitting people across the head with it is somewhat disappointing.
Eisenzwerg Sep 24th 2009 4:22PM
If only this was available in time for real-life Oktoberfest!
Turtlehead Sep 24th 2009 4:45PM
I thought this was a gag post until I followed the links. People are unfailing weird and surprising!
Btw, I've got the Redridge bridge for sale. Bit of a fixer-upper but location, location, location....

Cool for people that are into it I suppose.
Personally I'm a little tired of seeing World of Warcraft mousepads, mice, keyboards, steins, swords, plush toys, t-shirts, elf ears, etc... I know WoW is a business and I won't begrudge them making money off the people that are willing to buy these things Its starting to be a bit overkill.
In my opinion of course.

Blizzard didn't create this item, a fan did.
Native Sep 24th 2009 9:15PM
I'm assuming that its endorsed or allowed by Blizzard. I highly doubt they'd let someone create and profit from a real life representation of an in-game model. As a matter a fact haven't they cracked down on people doing that before?
Just because Logitech (i think thats it) makes WoW mice doesn't mean that its not a Blizzard isn't involved with what seems to me to be a crazy over-saturation of WoW junk.
micgillam Sep 24th 2009 4:47PM
This may make me even *more* unpopular here, but... it's cheap looking. I mean, I looked at all the shots of it on the 3-Point site... and to me it's a cheap looking (although, at 4lbs. + contents, certainly not cheap feeling, I'm sure) mug.
jeff Sep 24th 2009 5:06PM
The problem is they had to make it look like an in-game item, which they didn't have to do for their other mugs. In-game item = low poly count, crude textures, etc. I think they did a really good job of recreating it, though it isn't nearly as intricate as their other mugs. Would have been nice to see them use a little more leeway in the rendition and add some more detail.
Molly Sep 24th 2009 5:07PM
Well I think because it was modeled to look EXACTLY like the in-game item, is what makes it look cheap. I think for it to look less cheap it would have more texture and more subtlety but...then it wouldn't be a replica.
Karilyn Sep 24th 2009 5:27PM
My main complaint is, I think it's made out of painted pewter?
Why did they paint it wood color? Why didn't they wrap it in actual wood? That would have been cooler.

It's also important to note that you can order as many as you want now, but they're not shipping until mid-November. I emailed Customer Service to inquire as to why such a delay and here's the response i got:
"It is due to the time it takes to product them. By the time we went through with the approval process with Blizzard – we were late to get it out for Brewfest. We are expecting them mid to late November. We are currently deciding on whether to airfreight – but they are so big and heavy we are not sure. We are waiting for quotes. If this happens it will move up a few weeks. I should know within a week."
Also, the price is listed at 39.99, however shipping & handling is 12.95 (within the contiguous US) + 3.50 in sales tax.. So you're total comes to a minimum of $56.44

Bought it...they took down the pic where it showed it next to a 2 liter...which is about the same size...it also holds amost 2 liters of your fav beverage.......can;t wait to get this at my home !
Ian R. (Orkchop) Sep 24th 2009 5:28PM
I want to dual wield these like my orc, but 4 liters? I think I'd be the one tanked.
