It came from the Blog: Pirates' Day recap

It came from the Blog celebrated Pirates' Day by running from Orgrimmar to Booty Bay as pirates and then joining Dread Captain DeMeza's crew. Granted, there really isn't much to the in-game holiday, but we had a good time making the most of it. Yar!
Around 110 or so showed up including Allison Robert, C. Christian Moore and Christian Belt. We got in our pirate costumes, ran to Razor Hill, Crossroads and then on to Ratchet. We then took the boat to Booty Bay and got the Achievement. Thanks to our many higher level characters, the lowbies were protected along the journey.
I took a lovely video capturing the 50 or so Tauren Pirates I had on follow only to crash just after getting to Booty Bay. The video is not salvageable, but I may be able to do something with the videos of the beginning and the end... maybe. I was able to get a few screenshots which are in the gallery below.
Thanks to all who joined us and stay tuned for the It came from the Blog Brewfest event announcement coming soon!

Yeah, don't count on WoW to stay up when you have tons of people on Follow. Especially if you have a train of followers, like A following B following C... once that gets to five or six layers, people start to DC like flies.
Really, for any large-population event, you should be using an outside video program, not WoW's internal video capture (which obviously breaks when the game crashes).

I need to upgrade my computer. I used Xfire which I find to be a really great and easy to use video capture program. And it's free!
(Since I play on a PC, there is no in-game video capture.)

Wait...wow has an internal video capture? How did I not know that?
Robin Torres Sep 24th 2009 11:20AM
On the Mac only, Impurezero.

Ah. I figured you were playing on mac, because A) blogger, and B) capture failed when WoW crashed. I know Fraps keeps recording away even when WoW crashes to the desktop.

Oh man...and all this time I've been blogging on a PC. Why the hell didn't anyone tell me?
*violently pushes computer from the desk to the floor in one swift motion and leaves the room angrily*

I mean a career blogger. That's mac territory, generally.

Look at you, Robin...answering my questions before I even ask them. You're like Nic Cage in Next.

except not lame and useless after leaving las vegas and raising arizona.
(I can accept the rock and con air, but only because there are superior actors in both of those movies buoying nic along.)

"ran to Razor Hill, Crossroads and then on to Ratchet"
Next time just take the hidden path (actually called "the hidden path") behind the orc/troll starting zone and swim across the bay to Ratchet......Unless you just wanted to take the scenic route :-)
Robin Torres Sep 24th 2009 11:29AM
We did want to take the scenic route, but thanks for the tip!
(The actual Pirates' Day activities take about 5 seconds to complete, so the Pirate run was the main purpose of the event.)

What a fun afternoon! If you've never been to an event for ICftB, get to the next one. Yes, many of us follow Robin, but that makes it easy to hang out and gab in gchat. Many people swarm around the group and protect lowbies. Hanging out with some of your favorite Wow.com writers makes for fun and informative times--I won't spoil anything, but maybe I can edit the comment later? (/chuckle)
Also, Robin has an amazing native ability to herd cats, but in a helpful spirit, if you're gonna come to the next one, lemme offer these tips:
1. If you're going to make a DK for it (not a bad idea, and it was suggested before), give yourself time to get out of the starting area.
2. There's not going to be a raid group--Pirate's Day we had over 100, as Robin said. Too many for a raid, and the idea is not to manage multiple raid groups, it's to have fun.
3. Spam is bad, and I'm not talking about canned luncheon meat. You were warned. lol
4. Once Robin says so, please let her be the only one using caps in gchat. You were warned. lol

Did I only see myself in front of the line because anyone using "follow" on you would see themselves in front of the line?
Anyway, I was the Troll Shaman with the Flametongued staff that (to me) was in front of that Tauren line following you. Too bad about that video.

Wish I had made it!
I had started a DK for the event and thought I had it farther along than I did.. no biggie - I wanted to see "The Battle for Lights Hope Chapel" once again with popcorn this time so that is what I was up to!
I will definitely be there for a Brewfest event though - can't wait to hear about it!
