Varimathras' replacement: "B"

And if by "anyone," you mean the denizens of the Blizzard forums, they all seem to think it's Nathanos Blightcaller, a Forsaken who has been sitting in the Eastern Plaguelands since the game began. He's recently been mentioned again in the game, as Varian Wrynn has sent Alliance players after him in Bolvar's place, and so it makes sense that he may rejoin the Banshee Queen and take his place at her side. Balnazzar, Varimathras' demon brother, is another guess, though he's currently serving secretly with the Scarlet Crusade, so who knows how he'd come to that position. And of course, besides Bornakk, anytime you hear B you have to think of our friend Bolvar, whose fate we'll probably learn in patch 3.3 no matter what. As for who it really is, we won't know for sure until we see them in the Undercity.

Well, it's gotta be BATMAN!!!

My wager? If you read the book "Losses of the Third War" (one of those annoying books that pops in Dalaran instead of the books that get you the pet), the third page has this interesting entry:
"Bethor Iceshard
Killed during the events of the third war. Bethor is known to have risen as a member of the Forsaken and should be treated as an agent of the Horde in all dealings."
Sindella Sep 25th 2009 6:58PM
He's already in mage quarter.

Bethor Iceshard is already in Undercity, has been since release. Chills in the Mage Quarter, dealing with a few lowbie quests.

Beathwing?

B is clearly a false clue. If you review it from a reverse alphanumeric system, a basic class one cryptographic style, where A=Z and so forth down the reverse scale, then B would become Y.
Now, this would imply that Y would stand for "Yogg-Saron" - again, this is too obvious a fake out. So let's look at the implied statement:
Yogg-Saron. Again, if we use reverse cryptographic statements, the Y would become N.
And the reverse of N on this basic scale is M.
Therefore, it is quite clear that the replacement for Varithramas is in fact... Mankrik's Wife.

Uhh, he's not there?
Or does he only disappear once you are past that quest (which I am most definately not!)
Zamboni Sep 25th 2009 7:36PM
He leaves after the Battle of Undercity (around level 74).
If you do the quests in the wrong order (like me), you're stuck with items you can't turn in.

I'm hoping it's Blackthorn, the bandit that Sylvanas possessed in WC3. He'd be a good choice to take over Varimathras's position as head of the Deathstalkers.

Clearly, it's the next warchief, earning some valuable on-the-job training...
Basic Campfire!
theRaptor Sep 25th 2009 8:16PM
Smart move by our future Warchief. Garrosh would never be able to get to the Zepp towers outside Org to take a flight to UC because he would get distracted by the native fauna and end up being kited all over Durotar.
I approve of this level of cunning in future Warchief Basic Campfire!

barack!
he carved it teh backwards on my cheek

no he didn't. god, you're such and idiot, that's the last time I let you out of your cage.
clintrice Sep 25th 2009 7:57PM
Bolvar Fordragon .... you heard it here first
Guildenstern Sep 25th 2009 8:14PM
It's going to be Nathanos Blightcaller. It's hysterically obvious.
And about damn time too, because he is epic awesome.
Joe Sep 25th 2009 8:19PM
I'm assuming that this new person will also be the replacement for Varimathras in questlines, when 80s come back to do all the old quests. Which would then lead me to wonder why Blightcaller will send us on a quest to go talk to Blightcaller (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6144 )
Ah well, the replacement is long overdue anyway.
