Breakfast Topic: Great expectations

But then I start thinking. The combo I really wanted to play, Worgen Paladin, looks like it won't make it in. It seems like Worgen may not get their own capital city (instead, said city will become a battleground under siege by the Forsaken), which may put a damper on how much their awesome quasi-Victorian scenery and architecture actually features in game. While some zones are getting complete revamps, others are only getting minor tweaks, which makes me fear there may be some zones that still feel out of place and some old lore story lines that still remain unresolved or out of place.
Now, I don't mean to be a complete downer here. I still love Blizzard and the dev team, but sometimes I don't agree with them, and sometimes, some stuff just plain turns out to be a disappointment. Sort of like Vehicle combat, which is clunky and jarring and bug-filled and also ubiquitous (seriously, 7 jousts for dailies back before Patch 3.2, plus more jousting just to get through the latest dungeon?), or the Argent Tournament, which has brought the story of Wrath to a grinding halt while simultaneously making Tirion look like an incompetent hypocrite and Arthas look weak and ineffective.
Of course, at the same time, sometimes expectations are just too high. Which, I think, is the case of the Death Knight. Some people assumed that "hero" class would mean "overpowered," and are now almost angry that the Death Knight has been bought back to earth. Of course, Blizzard never promised overpoweredness, nor that Hero classes would ultimately be more powerful than normal classes.
But hey, just to keep it all balanced, I'll ask more than one question this morning. Of course the first is obvious: When has some feature or event in WoW not met your expectations? Do you think your expectations were too high, or did the dev team just fall short? But also, when did Blizzard exceed your expectations?

The Zepplin to Thunder Bluff. I've read most of the new articles on this site and it still hasn't arrived. I mean, I could've ran it in this time!
ReJoshua Sep 26th 2009 8:23AM
Yeah it has. As of patch 3.2 I do believe. It's in Elder Rise, again I do believe. You get on it in Org. beside the same zeppelin that takes you to Northrend.
Markainion Sep 26th 2009 8:36AM
He must be looking for the new tower by Thunder Bluff:)
Charneldeath Sep 26th 2009 8:39AM
What he means is that it is SLOW as all get out. Takes forever to arrive.
Markainion Sep 26th 2009 8:46AM
All you have to do is take it once, then spend the two silver coin it take to fly there instead. Man even a new player could afford that.

Personally I enjoyed the long trip, wish they had more zepplins that traveled across zones than just get on, loading screen , get off. Sure it's odd having to wait for something, I rode it for the first time on patch day so I was wondering if it decided to take a trip to outland but I enjoyed the trip across barrens for the first time in what two years. Use taxi if you don't want to wait, a lot of peps fly Stormwind to Ironforge because they don't want to wait for the tram heck some buy a portal and thats fine but if they wanted you to get anywhere in seconds everyone would have teleport. I want one from Silvermoon to Booty Bay next. :)

The Thunder Bluff zep was pretty much added so that the players starting out in Mulgore could get to Orgrimmar and get the flight path easily. It wasn't really intended to be a 'faster' alternative for flying, I don't think - it was just there to help the low levels get to a capital city without having to run the length of the Barrens, full of higher-level mobs, just to get to Org.
Sort of like the boat they stuck in Darkshore that goes directly to Stormwind, rather than night elves having to make that truly epic run from Darkshore to Menethil to Stormwind at whatever ridiculously low level they managed to pull it off at.

@Shade
The run from TB to Org really doesn't equate with the death run night elves had to make from Menethil to IF.
If you stick to the road in the Barrens you'll be fine, nothing big enough roams close enough, and it's usually big enough that you can see it far away.
Contrast that to mobs on the road in Wetlands, right by Loch Modan.
They're actually unavoidable, so if you're not of an appropriate level you'll be corpse-running.
Really, the reason the TB - Org zep got added was as prep for Cataclysm.

Way to post a constructive comment.
I am also disappointed that the worgen won't get their own capital and are just moving into stormwind.
danielmattson Sep 26th 2009 3:41PM
So am i but i think the reason that blizzard decided not to make a worgen capital city is because they don't think anyone would go to it, they put loads of effort into the exodar and silvermoon city but no one ever goes to those places
paladinofcancer Sep 26th 2009 5:14PM
The reason no one goes to Silvermoon or Exodar is that they are in out of the way useless places even when your below 60 and obviously completely useless once you hit Outlands and Northrend. However, I can't imagine that people wouldn't use an Alliance capital in Gilneas, so close to Horde territory... Silverpine Forest could become a very interesting PVP area. Especially with you Allies losing Southshore I'd think a capital and FP in Gilneas would be quite useful. I was hoping to see a goblin capital in southern Kalimdor, maybe in Tanaris or somewhere near there. Thats sort of a Horde travel dead zone. But, oh well.
SamLowry Sep 26th 2009 7:11PM
It's an Alliance dead travel zone, too. I have to wonder what went into the reasoning behind putting two Alliance capital cities at the extreme north end of Kalimdor right next to each other.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Sep 28th 2009 10:55AM
It doesn't help that for the Exodar you have NO direct fly path to it. You HAVE to get off and take a boat ride over.

I actually have always been generally pleased with blizzard, i guess im the only one who loves mounted combat i think them implementing it was just amazing, jousting is a little weird to win you have to trick the computer but other then that its pretty good. And i think they have some good ideas to balance classes, yes i do beleive some classes 1v1 are really overpowered :cough:paladins:cough: but each class has its perks and its weaknesses :cough:except paladins:cough:
I think the argent tournament is fun,
onyxia was awesome
ulduar is epic we fight an old god for crying out loud
among others. I do have mixed feelings about the charity epics that they are throwing around right now implementing a tiered badge system just to say the hell with it 2 large patches down the line. But its gotten me my 2 piece kirin tor so im not complaining
Kanap Sep 26th 2009 9:16AM
Yes I agree 1v1 paladins(myself) are OP. People challenge me to a duel outside Ogr and I usually do well, i tend to try not to bubble unless its absolutely needed. (when a DK armys in a duel) I also try not to heal except with a judgment or possibly a seal. But this is just me.
demlax19 Sep 26th 2009 12:39PM
when i duel as a pally, i dont heal or bubble, cuz i dont want to be OP, but i do throw down my stuns, and when i do heal its art of war proc and instant cast flash of light, thats what its for, we have gotten completely nerfed now, and warriors with about the same gear, completely relies on timing and cd's i dont get the point of using a spell that has a 10-20 mins cd (LOH) on a duel, maybe in bg's 3 on 1 to give myself a better edge. but wings and salvation with glyph helps a ton with dk's 20% les damage conc, and holy wrath, they go down pretty fast. I honestly loved pallies when the wrath patch came out, being able to 2 hit things 4 lvls ahead of me= great
Rhabella Sep 26th 2009 8:23AM
I was a little saddened they went with the druid over the paladin for the worgen as well.
What really has me pissed though is the outrageous storyline they are creating for the Tauren paladin, but the gnomes will not be able to play them.
I mean seriously, they could potentially leave Northrend to return home crushed by the history of their origin, and look for answers, only to discover the light from their brothers in IF. Somehow that's more far fetched than the Tauren sunwalkers?

Alchemistmerlin Sep 26th 2009 9:14AM
lol internet petitions.
Blizzard has said repeatedly that they do not and will not respond to petitions, so please take your 20 signatures elsewhere.
Rhabella Sep 26th 2009 9:44AM
Hmm, a few things Blizzard said would not happen...
1. Transfers of toons from PVE to PVP servers.
2. Faction transfer of toons.
I am sure there are others.
I have no expectation for Blizzard to even allow Gnome paladins, but it would be nice to promote the idea, particularly when they will be the only race with just 6 classes, and 2 of those classes are offered to every single race in the game.
ScorchHellfire Sep 26th 2009 12:09PM
This. I mean if it was going to be any other horde race, it should be tauren as they are one of if not the most spiritual race in the game and I guess the sunwalker thing makes more sense that just saying they are followers of the Light now.
But yeah what I dont get is that goblins get shamans when they are the race that is least intune with nature and the elements (hell a lot of the time they go out of their way to destroy them for their own profit) and yet we get no new paladin race for the alliance...
Gnome (hell even nelf) paladins make waaaaaaaay more sense than goblin shamans...
