Ghostcrawler to take a break from the forums

One of the primary complaints Ghostcrawler has about the forums is how his words are picked apart by folks, often times with such a fine scalpel that things which he says are taken out of context and diluted from their original meanings. We've noticed this ourselves, in that when we post on something he says commenters will often look past the context of the post (or article we've written) and dive right into a uniquely feisty brand of QQ.
As of late the forums have reached a new level of annoyance, with more and more posts being about Ghostcrawler's job performance and him personally, instead of being about the game mechanics. Even post about game mechanics and design issues find a way to devolve into people crying about their class or what Ghostcrawler has or has not done. Some people actually believe that Ghostcrawler promised them a pony, and those people have became significantly more and more vocal.
Posting today, he said the following:
I always said that when my posting was doing more harm than good that maybe it was time to stop. I think I'll at least chill it out a little. I will continue to read the forums though. If you want to make sure the WoW developer see your feedback, this is still a good place to post.
So it appears, at least as of now, that Ghostcrawler's posting presence on the forums will become significantly diminished. Hopefully this will only be a temporary reprieve from the forums for him, and he'll be back at least in time for the Cataclysm beta in order to keep us all informed about the design behind the expansion.

Wow good going wow players look what you did. I hope you are all happy now
Grubba Sep 26th 2009 3:58PM
Agree completely. After years of having the developers perched up in an ivory tower, dispensing information to the players only on the rare occasions that they deem fit, having someone speaking candidly about the reason things are going on has been so refreshing.
Maybe it will make the masses happier to go back to the old way.

[REMOVED]
Robin Larsen Sep 26th 2009 4:26PM
Yes I also agree. It almost seems like the forums have become places for cry baby players to go. Folks who are actually skilled and playing the game, running content don't hover and troll. Its not just wow forums either. I went to Aion's forums looking for the cleric section and in the Clerics Q & A another troll literally slammed a legitimate post for asking a "dumb" question lol. While I think Greg is amazing and loved interacting with him at blizzcon I'm glad he's told the trolls to eff off. lol Enjoy your break ghostcrawler most of us are cheering you on!!
Docp Sep 26th 2009 4:26PM
Well I'm glad he's quitting before he was driven insane and was found naked in the seafood section of the local supermarket babbling about ponies.
Jamesisgreat Sep 26th 2009 4:28PM
This is why we can't have anything nice!
Superthrust Sep 26th 2009 4:32PM
This is exactly how the Tseric issue happened...
Seems more and more ass clowns play this game now. I am almost done with this game cause of people being too....stupid...
Alanid Sep 26th 2009 4:38PM
This is what happens when you try to cater to a crowd when all they do is whine and complain. These people should just quit the game already, if it makes you so unhappy why pay to play and spread your unhappywhinemoan disease to others?
Xiol Sep 26th 2009 4:56PM
I don't blame him at all.
Have you been to the offical forums recently? It's a cesspool of QQing and hatred for fellow players.
Ghostcrawler, if you're reading this by chance, good on you for quitting that shit. You stuck with it longer than I would have, and how you managed to do it all without telling them to "[REMOVED]" I have no idea.

Glad to see that in effect, or furthermore your language is being uprated!

As long as Ghostcrawler and other devs read the EJ forums and its PvP-equivalent forums as well as the official forums, it's fine. I know he said they'll continue to read everything, but to be honest, the real information with actual data is more likely to be present on forums like EJ.
Which makes me wonder why doesn't Blizzard adopt a tougher moderating stance like EJ does?

I'm surprised he let the forums get under his skin, considering how we all know those forums to be. WOW forums need their own definition of obnoxious. The amount of QQ, and trolling is crazy. And why is it so out of control?
Because the "blues" out there that are trying to be cool and help all these WOW players... actually FEED their obnoxious behavior. The posters KNOW someone of some significance is watching/reading at least some of the time.
If you knew that by being really annoying and whining on the forums, you could actually bring about a change in the game... what would you do?
Yes, be even more annoying and whiny. If it worked last time, then by being twice as obnoxious, you'll surely get twice the results next time!
If there's were some magical Space wizard in the sky who created everything, THIS would be the reason he never talks to anyone. :P Kinda makes you wonder...
rosencratz Sep 26th 2009 6:47PM
Was bound to happen.
Every time i check the Blue trackes i can't help but be frustrated at all the stupid posts that the Blue's end up having to put up with and all the twisting and QQ'ing about words taken out fo context... and the personal comments of course. To be honest, for some people antagonising and trolling is "what they do" i expect there are a few people on those forums quite pleased with themselves now sadly. :(
I'm suprised he lastest this long without having to take a break, he's done a sterling job so far and I should hope he comes back again in the not too distant future.

you bastards killed kenny
Dreyja Sep 26th 2009 3:55PM
Man... there goes our one very open member of the wow team.
It's too bad that we all miss out on GC's (Tiberius) wisdom and humor because of some people and the whiney ethos of those forums.
That being said, he TOTALLY promised me a pony. ;-p
Shoryu Sep 26th 2009 4:26PM
the main thing people forget is THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. not a job, not a marriage, and nobody ever said things had to be fair, life isnt fair. and so all their whining, all their bitching, drove an innocent man who only tried to help the masses enjoy a video game more to stop. if only people put this much effort into changing the economy or the world we would live in a Utopian society, and yet they channel their efforts into complaints and insults towards a VIDEO GAME.
Mastermenchi Sep 26th 2009 4:37PM
What are you talking about old people have been trolls on the forum of life for ages.
Haven't you watched/read/or listened to any political radio, tv, or newpapers? They do it everyday.
While we might all complain about paladin balancing they are all complaining about the balance between rich and poor classes, nerfs or buffs to laws, and hell even world pvp.
I mean hell you'd think with all the worlds complaining you'd think God promised everyone a golden pony or something.
Fozz Sep 26th 2009 9:38PM
Inevitable and overdue, in my opinion.
GC provided an invaluable service to people who are objective and open-minded about
the product we are consuming.
However, if you have spent more than 5 minutes on
the forums, you quickly notice people are waaay too attached to their own point of view for reasoning with the forums to make any difference.
I found the transparency and forthrightness in his posts refreshing and fun.
For however long he takes a break, he will be missed.
This is what happens when you show people how the sausage gets made...
Jeff Sep 26th 2009 3:56PM
I can't really blame him. Being the go-to punching bag for the exceptionally whiny WoW community would tire anyone out. Hell, I'm impressed he stuck it out as long as he did.
Mondo Sep 26th 2009 3:59PM
This is a sad day for us. The other Blues have great information but GC was the most vocal for us. I'm glad to see he will continue reading but his input will be missed.
