Even as inflation and worldwide recession jacks up transportation fares, it seems that Blizzard is bucking the trend and continuing to drive training costs for mounts even lower. Blizzard poster Mumper -- a blue so new to posting that even Zarhym was
caught off-guard --
confirms on the forums that the costs to train for flying have been reduced significantly in
Patch 3.2.2.
Expert Riding is now available for a the ridiculously low price of 225 Gold, down from the 600 Gold price slash of
Patch 3.2 (it was originally a whopping 800 Gold)! But wait, there's more! Faction discounts apply, too, but instead of Thrallmar and Honor Hold, which Level 60 players are unlikely to have any substantial standing with, these have been changed to Orgrimmar and Stormwind reputations, respectively.
Mumper (gotta love that name) explains that it was unreasonable to expect fresh Level 60 players to have even 600 Gold. He says that Blizzard wants more players to be flying around at Level 60, and the changes should make it easier for even new players to zoom around the Outland in fancy (and faster) flying mounts. It's good news that Blizzard is being very considerate of the playing community and its economic needs in these harsh times. Now if only we could get discounts off those
paid services...
DoTs! More DoTs! Fifty DKP minus!Onyxia returns! The Brood Mother has been revitalized as a 10 and 25 person raid, so you'll need to be sure you know everything that's coming at you. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.2.2 will make sure you're set for Nefarian's nasty daughter as well as other cool changes.

I got my epic mount right when I hit level 60 for 600g, and I just had the old level 40 60% mount to farm with. I just started saving when I hit 52ish. The hours I spent in the Yeti Cave in Winterspring... Rich Thorium and Rugged leather everywhere.
I don't know about lowering it as much as they did, as it's even easier to make money now than it was halfway through BC when I did that. Although, I guess your average player won't save that much... but that's why being average isn't always the best :D

I feel jiffed...
I just bought my DK reg flight a couple days before 3.2.2 dropped.

Same here, exact same situation for me too, and it sucks, I feel ripped off totally

You feel like you have peanut butter smeared all over you?

Exactly like that..
Man... three days... I should have waited...
Good thing that my herbalism/alchemy/mining/jewelcrafting racket is raking in the dough.

Cry more. What about the people who bought epic LAND mount training when it was 1000 Gold? What about the people who bought normal flying when it was 800 Gold with no discount?
What about the people who dropped 6000 Gold on Epic flying when it was the only worthwhile epic mount after the mount speed training (150% is effectively fast enough for me now)?
Things change get over yourself.

Blizzard isn't arbitrary. I see, somewhere on a subscriber activity spreadsheet, spikes in hours played per day upon learning Expert Flying.
Ed Sep 26th 2009 2:25PM
Obligatory curmudgeonly ramble about how back in the day getting a mount was a great achievement that any good player would have no problems affording.
Where'd I put my cane?
hiiro Sep 26th 2009 2:33PM
Don't worry, epic flyers are still quite pricey. We can still cling to that one while we yell at the kids to get out of our lawn.
devilsei Sep 26th 2009 2:32PM
You didn't see Ed? While you were doing that inspirational and heart-felt speech, one of them there whippersnappers came and flew in on his 200g 150% flying mount and stole it from the table!
Tony Bowman Sep 26th 2009 2:32PM
FUCKING HELL. i paid the 600 gold barely 2 days before 3.2.2.
boo. hiss. i wish they would announce stuff like this more often. :(
Linainverse Sep 26th 2009 2:53PM
^This. Not to mention I paid with the Honor Hold rep discount, which is crappy. Now they switch it to Stormwind rep.
And are they ever going to lower the cost of epic flying? You know, to maybe 2k or 3k? (Less would be even better, considering they lowered Expert to 200-some gold, but I'm trying to be reasonable here.)
Yeah, we'll lower the cost of every other type of riding/flying, in an effort to make it where you don't have to save as much money, then hit you with a 5000g bill if you want the best flying in the game. Geez.
I know I have it easier than those who've played WoW from the beginning, but it's still irritating.
sprout_daddy Sep 26th 2009 4:49PM
There is no reason to lower Artisan Flying - it's not a need, it's an option. If you don't want to raise the 5k (and making money is so easy now that no one should have a problem raising it), don't buy it. Even when TBC came out, raising 5k wasn't really much of a challenge - now it's a joke.
