The Queue: Wherein we learn new slang

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's (almost) daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
ikandiman asked...
"I have been trying to get the last Brewfest achievement for my Warlock, but every time I get smashed and jump off the elevator in Shattrath (with my Skyguard's Drape to slow fall) I never get the bloody Drunken Stupor achievement. Had no problem with my mage and paladin. What gives?"
I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the source of the problem is the Skyguard's Drape. You can't use any Slow Fall effects when trying to get that achievement, you need to simply fall. You can use immunities such as Ice Block and Divine Shield, but you can't use things like Levitate, Slow Fall, or items like the Skyguard's Drape.
To get that achievement done, I just took all of my characters to the Scryer elevator in Shattrath, not the Aldor elevator. The Scryer elevator is the perfect height so you can basically just walk off the edge, get the achievement, and not even worry about dying. Easy peasy, lemon squeezey. For another really simple location, check out our Brewfest edition of The OverAchiever.
jfofla asked...
"I know BoA shoulders and chest will not scale past 80 at Cataclysm, but will the 20% experience bonus still function past 80?"
No.
Gamer am I asked...
"Do you think there is any significance to the fact that the main villains of each expansion pack (Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing) all started out as good characters and became evil, rather than being evil by nature?"
I think that it's just a theme that the people behind Warcraft enjoy. "What makes good people go bad?" as Christie Golden phrased it at BlizzCon. It's more fun to take someone who is good, or at least not evil, and show their downfall, show what it took to bring them to the dark side. In Illidan's case, it was a lust for power. In Deathwing's case, the Old Gods invading his domain. For Arthas, trying so hard to protect your people that you become the problem.
Ezzy asked...
"How can we get Battle Bot Fuel now that the Mountain Dew promotion is over?"
You don't. The bot's battles were a temporary thing, a little celebration of the promotion. You can't get the fuel anymore.
Nastybutler asked...
"Why did Blizzard make Carrot on a stick, Riding Crop and other mount speed boosters useless to players above 70?"
Mostly because they were pretty annoying. It's one of those game features that to use effectively, you needed a mod to automate the action. I'm pretty sure nobody equipped all of those things by hand every time they mounted, and remembered to take them all off when you dismounted. And if you did, have you lost your mind? It would be faster to not fly with them so you can just go go go go go instead of digging through your bags every few seconds.
If you used them, you probably had an addon that automatically equipped them whenever you mounted up, and switched them out when you dismounted. How incredibly annoying. That's not really good gameplay. So Blizzard, instead of tearing your mount speed items away from you when they put in the change, simply made them stop working once you went past level 70.
bob.browning78 asked...
"With Cataclysm re-doing the "old Azeroth", will the terrain be re-done so flying will be allowed?"
Yes, that was one of the major points in the Cataclsym announcement. They're cleaning up Azeroth so you can fly over it without seeing all of Blizzard's crazy little graphical shortcuts and empty parts of the world.

"Dear The Queue,
Do you feel that the commenters on WoW.com have become less trollish and more civil and witty in recent weeks? If so, can you please give them (us?) a well-deserved "Big ups?"
Thanks,
Me"
My ever-growing pile of moderated and deleted comments says... no. We've just spent more hours moderating than we ever had previously. Some of you are pretty cool though, so consider yourselves big upped. I actually have no idea what that means. Big ups? Is that something I'll need to look up on Urban Dictionary? I hope not. That place is scary.

whoa, is that picture from the comics?
Jack Miles Sep 29th 2009 4:10PM
No, it's fanart. The main difference is that Varians "Diplomacy" shoulders are larger in the comic than they are there.
mtsadowski Sep 29th 2009 4:54PM
Varion's shoulder armor gets bigger and bigger. He's either compensating for something or he was REALLY into the 80s.
Camaris Sep 29th 2009 5:15PM
His hair points to the latter.
Aedilhild Sep 29th 2009 6:18PM
That's no sword. It's a Steinberger headless electric guitar.
Kyale Sep 29th 2009 10:10PM
I also notice the considerable lack of chin in the picture as compared to the game and other sources. Very interesting...
Plastic Rat Sep 29th 2009 10:48PM
I don't care what anyone says, that picture is freakin awesome.
BoB Sep 29th 2009 4:06PM
heh scary Urbandictionary comment made me smile

Has there been any indication that Blizz might change the Paletress/Edric fight of TOC to give them a shared loot table? My hunter has run reg and heroic TOC more than 40 times now trying to get the Banner of Truth and Marrowstrike and has seen the Confessor a grand total of 3 TIMES!!!
Tyrnas Sep 29th 2009 4:14PM
Repeat after me:
Random loot is random
Bob Dewane Sep 29th 2009 4:29PM
@Tyrnas
I understand that. What you apparently didn't uderstand was that my point was I'm rarely even getting a shot at the random loot because I first have to overcome the random choice of boss. I did not say that I want Blizz to change it so that what I want drops when I want. I would, however, like a chance at said loot when I run the instance. But maybe I'm the only one that's had the problem with getting a good mix of the two bosses. I still think, though, that having seperate loot tables for the same fight is problematic.
Hoggersbud Sep 29th 2009 4:39PM
Let's go one better, and have them both being fought in the instance.
Yeah, a lot of folks hate Paletress but at least if you're fighting them both each time, it'll give you a square chance at the loot.
Fyve & Cringer Sep 29th 2009 5:06PM
You're not alone, I have run Heroic Toc many, many, MANY times. And I have seen Confessor Short Shorts 4 times, i know this because i have 3 memories in the achievement and I have seen Keristraza twice.
I too was a hunter after Marrowstrike, (though a sweet drop in toc25 changed that) and every time Eadric appears its a waste, the dude drops nothing a hunter wants or needs.
And to add insult to injury, he does share items with the confessors cache. 2 out of the 4 times ive seen Confessor Schwing! she's left behind Peacekeepers Blade in her hot box. I'm pretty sure everyone in the game who actually needs that blade has one by now. Even I've had 3.
Candina@WH Sep 29th 2009 5:17PM
Thats funny.
For the longest time, I thought that Eardric the loot pinata didn't spawn in H TOC. Because I have seen him a total of once. Running it 3-5 times a week on two different toons.
MazokuRanma Sep 29th 2009 6:34PM
I'd be ok with this just for the fact that it would make the instance seem more filled out. Technically there are only two encounters set up for you. The faction champions and then Eadric or Paletress. The Black Knight is a surprise, so the Argent Tournament really didn't have much of an encounter ready for you here.
themightysven Sep 29th 2009 6:45PM
@fyve & Cringer
I hereby move that Paletree's name be officially changed to Short shorts

Sounds like my experience as a druid tank in H Violet Hold.
Shroud of Darkness anyone?

I'm waiting on a smart and witty comment based on 'Smart and witty comments'.

Even with the "oh noes I need to re-equip this" problems, it's still a load of BS that the Riding Crop has such steep(ish) mats and still only work for 2 levels. Go to the trouble of getting a Primal Might and a ton of Outland leather, then get to use it the item for 2 levels! It's like even Blizzard wanted the Riding Crop to be useless. Why not just remove the item, since they've already made it so no one will make or use it. Or better yet, scale the mats down and let it work for the entire 60-70 range, and just disable it at 70. 10 levels is more useful than 2.
And to be fair, Paladins have to turn on Crusader Aura every time they mount up, so doing something to go faster every time you mount up isn't that much of a problem.
Midas Sep 29th 2009 4:22PM
"It's only good for two levels" ignores the fact that one of those levels was the MAX level for about two years of gameplay, and therefore is a much longer play time than you imply. It was a perfectly good item at max level at the time. Your Karazhan epics are useless now, same as your drums of war. Move on.
