I'm only 61, but I've given players money when they ask for some or just decide to help them quest even if the mob was 20 or 30 levels below me. It's always great helping out players.

My main is a priest and I make it a point to go out of my way to heal people I see randomly questing. If I'm passing by and I see a pull gone bad, I'll heal them through or rez them if I'm too late. I always feel like helping one another out is part of the WoW experience.

I can't begin to tell you how many people I've rezzed at the bottom of the Aldor elevator in my time. I always try to heal people as I go by on my paladin. I even throw up Judgement of Light on mobs that Horde rogues are fighting (they may not be of my faction, but this game is difficult enough as a plate-wearing healer.)

When I was new I remember getting an occasional buff or heal thrown on me while running around Durotar on my selfhealingless hunter, desperately trying to avoid big scary scorpions. Recently I rolled a priest alt and I've loved running around throwing buffs on everyone I pass as well as healing anyone I see who needs it, hoping to sort of pay it forward.

Sometimes it helps you realise how long have you gone in a game when you see some lowbe ask you for a couple gold to buy some bags on the auction house. Of course throwing out buffs to people has always been my favorite thing to do. And one time when i was leveling through BC i saw a hunter getting swarmed by oozes and terror fiends in pools of Aggonar, he had like 5 things on him, his pet dead and feing death on cooldown. So i landed shielded him and healed him to full health then helped him take down the mobs. and after a buff i was off and he was sending me whispers with thanks :)

As a Priest (thankfully, not anymore!), I've ran Scarlet Monastery, Cathedral, eight times in a row just so the Paladin tank I've never met before could get her own Aegis of the Scarlet Commander. Every two runs, we had a DPS drop out and be replaced by someone else, but the Paladin and me carried on. I personally love healers but hate being one (just can't get it right), but I knew how bad it was to go through so many runs without an item that's clearly an upgrade for a long time (my warrior used that thing well into his 50s).
Then the underperforming balance druid ninjaed the Aegis when it finally dropped, claiming it was for his alt. No, I don't get it either. The Paladin was devastated, so I brought my high-level Warrior over and chainpulled our way to victory. Five minutes later, the Pally finally had her shield. =)

When I first started playing WoW, which was my first mmo, I was playing my first toon (warrior) and doing the warrior specific quest chain to get the whirlwind axe. I had no idea where I was going and ended up wandering around the W. Plaguelands getting destroyed by mobs in a zone I had no business being in. A tauren warrior I didn't know rode up on his epic mount and asked me what I was doing there. I confessed that I was lost and didn't know where to go and they spent the next couple hours walking me through that quest chain. I was a very happy little noob.

This reminds me of leveling my druid, which happened to be my first toon. I actually got myself through the infamous Aquatic Form questline, but it was like pulling out teeth. After going through that hell, if a lowbie ever asked for help, I would drop what i was doing and walk them through it. Every time they tried out aquatic form for the first time, a little bubble of pride welled up inside me seeing another druid flourish. I'm almost a little sad they moved aquatic form to the trainers.

The other day, I was wandering through Alterac on my 37 rogue alt, when I spotted another stealthed toon moving around in the ruins. Turned out he was a druid I had given some armor kits after meeting him and a couple others leveling in Darkshore about five months ago. I greeted him, and helped him with his quest to kill off some level 40 ogres. I had just randomly put him in my friends list along the way, and it was a pleasant surprise to stumble upon him in the same area I was questing in.

Well, I do not help players that beg for help, gold, etc. BUT, I do a random favor for someone once per week. I think this helps them, and provides me a bit of karma in return. :)
JDM Sep 30th 2009 8:34PM
(wtb post edit button >.>) This could be something as small as doling out greens I picked up in the zone to lowbies that could use it, or even much larger favors such as buying someone their flying mount. All depends on what I feel like doing at the time.

There is hope for humanity yet :)

A long time ago i was running through elwynn forest on my paladin. As i passed by the mount vendor area i noticed a level 40 warrior standing there. I asked him if he was buying his mount.(at that time they still cost 90-100g for skill and mount) He said no that he was just window shopping and had only saved up 25g torward the purchase. So i gave him the remainder that he needed to buy his mount. I was happy to help someone out.

This lvl 30 something hunter asked me for a portal to Dalaran, and from his words and demeanor, I got the feeling the 5g he was offering me was all he had.
When I asked why he was going to Dalaran, at such a low level, he replied that he just wanted to be able to see the city.
I ended giving him the portal for free, something about the way he asked made me pity and respect him at the same time.
Other things; I generally avoid ganking others. Also if an another player is overwhelmed by mobs, I'll peel a few off to help, regardless of faction.
Dreyden Oct 1st 2009 12:16AM
Not to spoil the party, but I don't do the whole helping opposite faction not die thing. The last time I did it was back in Outlands with some 3 man group quest in HFP. I helped this warrior kill the Matriarch, then he turns around and kills me as thanks. Never again.
I do, however, donate several thousand gold a month to my guild's bank (I'm the guild leader) and leave free repairs open for all 450 members. (Big, big, social/leveling/alittle raiding guild)
Dreyja Sep 30th 2009 10:30PM
Yeah, not ganking is a great gift to others. It really is. Especially lower level players. I've never understood the kind of bully player that feels like that's a legit thing to do, just because they can.
Good on yeh Mike. :D

I have never done anything like give armor/equipment like decribed in some of the comments (although I have asked if a piece of equipment/water/etc that dropped from mobs would work for someone I ran into a few times), but I do give buffs, assist with large mobs (even other faction at times), stuff like that.
Kole Sep 30th 2009 8:33PM
I just did something similar the other day. I was on an Alt and a guy in SW (I think he was a lvl 5 squishy err Lock) was asking if anyone could make him some bags since he was new on the server. I ended up jumping on my banker toon and giving him some 14-slot bags I had plus 10g and a stack of linen to get some bandages made.
Not alot but good enough for him to get started...and WAY more than he was expecting...I think he was pretty happy.
The reason I did it? Because I *know* what it is like to start on a new server with absolutely nothing....AND because he was very nice, polite and not spamming /1 begging for stuff...
