Patch 3.3 PTR available for download

A quick note to let all you curious beta testers out there know that the Public Test Realm (PTR) for Patch 3.3 is now available for download. As you can see from the picture above, the patch is a big one - just under 1.4 GB. If you don't have a super fast cable modem, you might want to consider downloading it overnight.
Patch 3.3 will introduce a new 10 and 25 man raid, as well as new 5 man dungeons. And as promised by Blizzard at BlizzCon this year, we should see cross-server instances as well. You can check out all the changes thus far in the recently released Patch 3.3 PTR Patch Notes.

All right, let's get this show on the road! Can't wait!

I'm going to say this will be on the PTR for at least 2 to 3 months at the latest, only reason I'm saying this is because they'll implement IC later on, and raids take much longer to test than 5mans :)

Given past PTRs, I'd wager that 3.3 will be out in December, figuring at least 6-8 weeks of "testing." Considering that there is going to be 5 new dungeons in 3.3, I'd also say that the "testing" phase might take as many as 10 weeks, putting the estimated release date at Dec. 15th.
"Testing" because everyone knows the PTR is really the Practicing Tactics Realm. (Hah! Repurposing an acronym is instantly funny!)
I also predict that 3.3's launch will, as always, be rough sailing on a sea of crap, followed by weeks of hotfixes and minor patches to nerf and buff the bosses of ICC (mostly nerf).

and, it's bad ?

That's a big patch and it's not even finished, afraid to see how big 4.0 is. Around 3 gigs is my horrid guess.

I just realized it's patching from 3.0 so it will probably be alot smaller come release. My mistake.

I might add that with no limitations on my download speed, the maximum consistent download rate I'm getting is around 200KB/s, averaging around 150KB/s. I spike up to 250 every once in a while (it was above 400KB/s for a moment near the beginning), but it seems like Blizzard throttles me down to around 150 or 200.
So you are looking at a 2-2.5 hour download at the least.

I just started the ptr download. 5 hours or so. I am glad its time to burn up the DVR

A word of advice:
If you're on a wireless network (or even possibly a wired one), I wouldn't advise trying to play live game while the patch is downloading. At least for me, since the Blizz Downloader is a p2p downloader, it maxes out my upload speed, bringing my ingame latency to around 2k (from a normal of around 160ms). Not fun. I'd advise downloading it while you sleep.

its capping me at about 300/kbps so this is about right. but again, this is all up to your internet connection. i'll probably have this done in about an hour and a half, but in the meantime wow will be unplayable. guess i'm going to bed early.

Like I said though, it's a p2p network, so your speeds will vary depending on how many other people are seeding/downloading. Heavy download traffic means lower download speeds for you. The opposite is true as well. Download it now if possible. Trying to download it tomorrow is going to be like trying to download it on patch day.

I'd also like to comment that the US PTR realms, both PvP and PvE are VERY unstable at the moment, and completely boot everyone off every 5 minutes or so.

DELICIOUS!

Very good feedback from everyone. I wish the news was better. But good to see you all keep everyone up to date

So I really want to get onto the ptr. The problem is whenever I try to download it from the site, I start downloading 3.0! Can anyone help me? Thanks
Rikkitikki Oct 2nd 2009 6:11PM
It should work fine. I actually downloaded the PTR a couple days ago which was version 2.2 and it requested an update when I tried logging into it just now. Also make sure that it jsut says WOW-0.3.0 .... for the patch name which is technically 3.3 for the PTR. Mine a coupel days ago was 0.2.2 which was for 3.2.2
