You need cross-server instances as you make your way up the Citadel?
You've got it. In the gallery below we're happy to give to you the Icecrown 5-man dungeon maps, fresh off the Patch 3.3 PTR. They cover the three wings of the 5-man version. The maps for the raid are not on the PTR yet. The three wings of the 5-man are the Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection, and the Forge of Souls.

the 1st 1 u can see a small skull lol scarly so like this is all 1 instance ?
Nascair Oct 2nd 2009 1:49AM
the skull marks a boss
Krotukk Oct 2nd 2009 3:32AM
I'm fairly certain the skull he is referring to is the design in the terrain, not the boss markers. Look at things a little more before downrating them. >:(

The skull mark bosses. They did it for CoS also, and I ran this last night, those skulls are where the bosses are on the PoS.
PS: The terrain had NO skulls with the exception of the rune forge.

Have a look at the map for Halls of Reflection.
Tunnel with two bosses, Marwyn and Falric, then a big room at the end with another boss. Arthas. But THEN leading out that room is a long section of map leading to nothing really. Some kind of ledge?
What if the Arthas fight IS a type of chase scene, and you fight Arthas along the map leading to the ledge where you are extracted out, because Arthas is too rough? 5-manners still get an Arthas battle, that will be epic in focus. But you don't kill Arthas, you fight to escape him.

Oh god yes!
Blizzard listen to this one for he is wise.

That'd be amazing, but how would you get loot from final battle? Meeting up with NPCs at the end, who shove more powerful weapons in your hands and push you back in?

I really like this idea. A 5-man Arthas fight where you don't actually fight him, but flee from him makes sense lore-wise and gameplay wise. It'd be a bit cheap if you did a normal fight with Arthas, with his HP and strength severely reduced for the sake of game mechanics. And to be honest, I think it would be great to fight a boss that's unkillable and you have to escape from them instead. It'd be a nice change from the usual tank-and-spank.
And Alex, you'd probably get loot the same way all non-killable bosses give you loot: a conveniently placed treasure chest at the end of the gauntlet.

I had a similar though about a chase scene, but kind of the opposite of what you said. Instead I kind of thought it would be cool if weakened from the surprise attack from the Wrathgate scene, Arthas instead was fleeing from us and spawning adds/mini-boss encounters along the way to protect him as he retreats into Icecrown. Either way, the idea of a chase scene would be awesome.

See that necropolis on the HoR map? My guess is that big scary flying things come out of it. Maybe Arthas lets you poke him for a bit (phase 1) then he says something in the lines of you becoming a great scourge luitenant since he's missing 2 atm, he stuns everyone and walks out, the party follows him (maybe on mounts) and then he ambushes the party with an entire army of scourge from the necropolis (phase 2). You have to survive wave after wave (set quotum or timed) and after that one of the 2 airships which are doing absolutely nothing in icecrown at this point fly in, shoots down the necropolis, aircrafts follow and shoot down the gargoyles and wyrms and tirion himself drops down and helps you defeat arthas at the end (phase 3). Arthas does QQ and teleports out. Tirion hands over chest with loot.

And for arthas favoured he steals Ashbringer from Tirion first, then sees Jaina/Sylvanas and sort of panics, teleports out and you get a chance of taking back ashbringer in the raid instance

Although I'm quite excited for this new 5-man content, I must say I'm a little disappointed by how few bosses there seem to be in these wings. And what exactly do we mean by wings? I'm assuming it's like the Halls of Lightning and the Halls of Stone being wings of Ulduar. So there'll be separate Halls of Reflection, Forge of Souls, and Pit of Saron instances.

If I had to take a guess, it will be set up like Scarlet Monestary, but phased/event. It is all considered the same instance but just splintered off. After you complete 1 instance, you get locked out of it and you move onto the next one. After you "defeat" Arthas, on regular, the instances will reset and on heroic you will be locked out till reset the next day.
It does seem like the Arthas will be a gauntlet event where you chase him down a hallway.

How about the unthinkable - after retreiving the blade from outside the tournament grounds as the last part of the quest chain you actually defeat the 5 man version of the Lich King ?
Then Icecrown starts to crash down all around you and you take the underground passageway to safety in a race against time ?
Hëx Oct 2nd 2009 9:58AM
While a giant boulder rolls down the passageway after you!
Sorry, not making fun of your comment, just the first thing that sprang to mind.

Is it just me or do these maps seem...small?
Halls of Reflection - it's a single hallway with two rooms, then a long straight area we are assuming is a gauntlet for the Arthas encounter. That's it. Essentially two hallways.
Forge of Souls looks like a linear path over 2-3 roundish bits (can't tell which are the negative space from the map), with a boss on each of two bridges, then a little room for the third boss.
Pit of Saron is the only one that looks normal instance-sized, but even then, if you look at the boss placement, we may only be in a very small part of that. I'd assume we enter somewhere around the lower-left, fight up across the "skull" to the boss on the right, then backtrack a bit and head down to the next boss, then up through what appears to be a tunnel to the final boss. At least a little bit more interesting than a hallway, or a path across two bridges.
Admittedly, all three are a bit better than ToC's single room ;P Still hoping the raid is a bit more grand in scope/design.

I was thinking it looks smallish myself. The pit of saron looks like it could be one of those crazy large caverns chalk full of mobs in which you have to be really careful with your pulls.
Will we actually need some CC in this instance?!
