While most of us are probably still downloading the massive PTR files, as usual, some people have had more time than others to download them and root through them for gems and treasures.
MMO Champion's database of new spells has revealed something pretty intriguing. Note the following list of spells:
Perfume and
Cologne, as you may recall, are two of the main parts of
the Love is in the Air Valentine's Day related world event, wherein players exchange tokens with NPCs for fabulous prizes. Given that we now have a set of spells coming up that put those two substances in the context of damaging abilities that can be protected against, it seems like
Kisirani and the world event team are ready to deliver again, and we'll possibly have a very interesting new boss this coming February.
Unfortunately, we can't tell much else about it right now, although hopefully we may learn more as the PTR progresses and more data is found. It's worth noting that if the world event design team is creating a new level 80 boss for a February event, they may not be expecting
Cataclysm to be out by then.

New boss tag, "Love hurts. This time, for real."
I love the holiday bosses ^.^

So this is what would happen if the Jormungar Twins went all Queer Eye on us.

Let's be honest- was ANYONE expecting Cataclysm to hit by February?
mtsadowski Oct 2nd 2009 11:26AM
I'm thinking it'll hit sometime this Smarch.
Jason Oct 2nd 2009 11:29AM
I definitely wasn't. It'll be November 2010 in all liklihood.
Jade Oct 2nd 2009 11:48AM
Because there will be almost a year between the last past of Wrath, and Cataclysm...
I'd say you're off by at least 6 months, if not more. At Least.
1st quarter 2009, 2nd at the latest ready for spring/summer and ready for classes to be out again for those that still are in school.
Joshua Ochs Oct 2nd 2009 11:58AM
Black Temple hit in patch 2.1. Should we have expected Wrath to hit six months later? Jade, you're just flat out wrong on this.
It's not even in ALPHA. Not a freaking chance of it being out in the first six months of 2010. I also expect a pre-Christmas release for Cataclysm. You know, like the Burning Crusade nearly missed (delayed to January), like Wrath was (November), like WoW itself was (November)...
NVance6425 Oct 2nd 2009 12:28PM
Anyone who thought Cataclysm had even a chance to be out by February is either insane or smoking something REALLY strong. But no way is it as far away as November either.
Wrath went into Alpha in April of 08, less than a month after patch 2.4 came out. Beta began in July. Released in November.
Patch 3.3 has been confirmed multiple times by Blizzard to be the last content patch for Wrath. Since the PTR for 3.3 just came up, the earliest we would see it live is late November. Mid December is more likely. Cataclysm could go into Alpha as soon as January. Beta would start 2 to 3 months later. 3-4 months of Beta testing. Late Spring/Summer release.
All of that is assuming that they haven't started early alpha testing already. They were not happy with how many leaks the alpha phase of Wrath had and may have changed their practices to make it internal only to limit the leaks as much as possible.

@ "Joshua Ochs"
Post above says "Because there will be almost a year between the last past (sic) of Wrath, and Cataclysm..."
You say "Black Temple hit in patch 2.1. Should we have expected Wrath to hit six months later? Jade, you're just flat out wrong on this."
What you said has nothing to do with what he said above you. He is comparing 3.3 to Cata (which would be the very next large patch), while you compare 2.1 to Wrath (with 3 large patches inbetween).
I would not expect Blizz to wait too much more than 6 months between when 3.3 drops, and the release of Cata.
I'm expecting Icecrown to drop somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas, basically right when winter hits. This goes very nicely with the winter/ice theme of the whole Lich King concept.
Around 6 months later, Cata is released. This put the time frame around June '10. What is the concept of Cata? Lots of destruction, mainly brought about by fire. Fire is very hot, and usually thoughts of Summer appear. When am I expecting Cata to drop? Yes, exactly. Early Summer.
Don't think for a moment Blizz doesn't know what they are doing. This is planned out.
Icecrown = December '09.
Cataclysm = June-August '10, with a tentative date around July 4th.
Book it.

I agree, Cataclysm will probably drop in last quarter 2010. The other expansions were released at 2-year intervals (BC in 2nd year, Wrath in 4th year) so it only makes sense for this expansion to be released in the 6th year (which starts November 2010). Also, this fits the timeline for alpha and beta testing. However, this would put quite a bit of time between 3.3 and Cataclysm. If the next patch drops in November/early December, that's nearly a year with no major updates or changes. I guess the only way to know for sure is to just wait and see =D
Jade Oct 2nd 2009 4:31PM
Blizzard has said for years they would like to have an expansion out yearly, so basing a release on previous activity, when the speed of patches and comments that indicate our time expectations are way off base, is kind of foolish.
They won't be hitting the once a year this year, but I'd be really surprised if it took even 18 months since WotLK was released for Cataclysm.
After all, certain people weren't even expecting 3.2.2 until _November_
People's expectations are way off base.
The Claw Oct 2nd 2009 5:12PM
Jade, there is at least a reason people expected 3.2.2 in November - they completely misunderstood Blizzard's statements regarding the Onyxia raid relaunch, and the Onyxia whelp pet that would be given out in November. It wasn't just guessing at how long the patch would take.
p.s. And folks, how about rating up and down based on quality of post, not as your way of saying "I think your guess is correct" / "I think your guess is wrong"
p.p.s. Cataclysm to be aimed at mid-year, but to hit inevitable Blizzard delays and come out September 2010.

Yes, my mage will love this! Trinkets from Brewfest, the staff from Mid Summer, epics from ALL the holiday events! He'll be Captain Holiday! The superhero that saves all holidays from evil, and subsequently doing absolutely nothing for Azeroth!
I love these holidays!
Dristan Oct 2nd 2009 11:37AM
Love is in the Air is the holiday I hated while I was doing it but in retrospect it was actually really fun so I'm actually looking forward to it this year (the prospect of love-themed loot is also pretty cool). I think it was the utter lameness of Brewfest that makes me appreciate the other holidays that actually had us doing stuff.
Stoneblade Oct 2nd 2009 11:46AM
I wonder if they'll change the Peddlefeet model to be more in line with the Cataclysm Goblin model.
Hehut Oct 2nd 2009 12:07PM
Does anyone see the similarity in the spells comparing to that of the Twin Val'kyr in TotC? Being immune to one type while probably taking damage from the other? That might mean there's either two bosses, or one boss that deals dual damage at once!
