Patch 3.3 PTR: New weekly quests to do while raiding

At this point in the PTR, we're told that the quests reward 10 Emblems of Frost (which again hints that they'll be broken up over weekly periods rather than daily periods, as 10 Emblems a day is a heck of a lot of emblems). But of course that can all change before the actual patch goes live. Just know that if these quests go in, a) your raid will probably be heading back to farmed content at least once per week, and b) at least you'll be getting a nice reward from the run.

Just realized I'm like the third person to say this in the last four minutes. Don't mind me...
ToyChristopher Oct 2nd 2009 3:09PM
I like this idea although i really really don't want to go back to malygos or even naxx.
shockologist Oct 2nd 2009 3:17PM
Well Like most people skip the Occ daily after they do it once, you can skip the EOE one.
ZMES_Matt Oct 2nd 2009 3:32PM
Since the drakes started scaling with gear, Maly has gotten signifcantly easier, I haven't even tried him since we've gotten the even higher item level gear that's out, so by the time this is released and everyone is wearing partial/full T9 ilevel gear, Maly will be a pushover.
ToyChristopher Oct 2nd 2009 3:48PM
It's not that maly is hard it's just that I don't like it. And I'm tired of naxx.
ZMES_Matt Oct 2nd 2009 3:10PM
You said that they'll be 10 & 25 man quests. Does that mean we can turn in both 10 AN 25 man versions for a whopping 20 badges, or do we just get our pick of turning in either one?
Liljon Oct 2nd 2009 3:16PM
The quest says: This quest can be completed with any difficulty or size raid.
That means 10 Emblem per week, one quest, 10 OR 25 man
Kiithid Oct 2nd 2009 3:12PM
It's so easy it shouldn't take more than 30 mins to get that, once a week it's not much if you really want an edge.
Well and consider at least it's some incentive to reiterate some places you already had fun.

I kinda like this. As my guild is now clearing toc25 weekly, most of them don't seem to have much interest in older wrath content. On off nights I'd like to go do some raiding with my alts, but I really, really hate pugs. I think having a weekly quest to kill X boss in naxx will make them want to go, even if it's just a partial run.
hexzerosix Oct 2nd 2009 3:26PM
Not a bad idea in concept, but have they thought about this aspect?
You are starting up a 25 man naxx run (this wouldn't really apply to full guild runs, mostly to pugs) and you are trying to do a full clear, say 9 or 10 people join just to do this weekly quest and then bail right after getting the quest complete. Now not only did you spend time trying to find PuGs but now you have to find even more, not to mention whats to say the new pugs you try and gather are even going to want to join seeing as you have progressed past the weekly quest boss. of course you can do it on say 10 or 25 man, but time constraints for people may not allow for this.
Personally I think this is to get us accustomed to doing raid quests for when WOW CAT comes out and there are the guild achievements for downing bosses. Having to turn in the quest is going to be the way its tracked i bet.

A good remedy for this is to join with another guild and start up alt runs. The group would consist of good people and alts on one night, and the mains and the good people's alts on the next. They would go through Naxx in its entirety and have fun with that. Not only would they get 30 Conquest badges altogether [provided they're doing it for gems or something], they would also have 10 Frost badges for each character. The alts can slowly get to some good T10-level gear, and the mains can continue their collection.
That's just an idea. It definitely has a possible drawback, but it can be remedied, I think...hopefully.
divinite Oct 2nd 2009 5:25PM
If you're going for a complete clear just make it known at the beginning. Then do the quest wing last.
duskhawk Oct 2nd 2009 3:28PM
Oh, thank God. Maybe now I can finally get a group for Malygos and finish off that stupid title.
(PUG: we only want people who have done it before! Gee, thanks, that's kind of my motivation.)

I often post "LFM Naxx10, need tribute to insanity, alone in the darkness, and 20k dps naked" in trade chat. It gets lulz.

I think this is a great thing for puggers. Just like the current heroic daily is a way for us to gradually get triumph gear, this will be a way for puggers to get the next level gear.
I play a lot, but I can't schedule my playtime at all, so I'm basically stuck with pug groups and rarely raid. I'm sure the LFG channel will be filled with people who only want to do the raid up to the weekly boss.
The really good news for puggers is that because in many instances it is the first boss you will encounter, you won't be saved to any failed raids. (kinda like how I always push to do the third boss in VoA)
I have way to much /played to call myself casual, but for people in my situation, weekly raid quests will be awesome.
For hardcore raiders, I really don't see the downside. For you guys, this is probably 15mins tops... and might be a way to get people to start on time... since you will be able to finish these quests with way less than 25 people. "Darn, sorry you were late, you just lost 10 emblems, unless you want to pug for them later"
Although I am dreading doing some of these bosses with a Pug :) It will be interesting for sure

Wasn't the addition of Emblems of Triumph to the heroic dailies Blizzard's way of getting people to run heroic 5-mans after they had outgeared them? Does this mean that Blizzard wants people running old raids too? Why? What could raiders possibly gain from running old raids? And since these are all early bosses, that means that alts who go on these runs won't have much of a chance for gear, thus defeating that purpose. I'm sorry, I know I will be down rated for this, but I don't like this change. Blizzard is taking this "go back and run old content" thing too far.
And yes, I know this isn't a mandatory thing, but if Blizzard's motivation is to get people running raids they have already surpassed, as it was with the Emblem of Triumph change, then I think they are taking this too far. Heroic 5-mans take no time at all and can be PUGed in your own time, but raids take more organization than that. Quests like these almost trivialize raids, and even as a casual player, that's not something I like. I know I'm not being very clear with my argument, but I just think this is an unnecessary addition. I hope Blizzard comes out soon with some sort of justification for these quests; I won't simply accept, "What? You mean you don't want easy tier 10 emblems?"
The worst part is, after patch 3.3 comes out, I know I'll be doing these quests. Le sigh.
Falcon6 Oct 2nd 2009 3:52PM
I think this is a final stitch effort to get people to see the raid content and get the most out of it.
Honestly, it's not a bad idea. In a few months, the raid content we have now will not be viable anymore...it'll go the way of Black Temple and Sunwell...just being an achievement run on weekends. And even as a T9-geared Hunter with a T8-area Warrior, I still like Naxx and wouldn't mind playing through it again, if not just for kicks.
I know, I'm probably in the minority, but I think it's a good way to bring some life back to Naxx and Malygos and such.
habutai Oct 2nd 2009 3:40PM
As a raid leader, I'm looking forward to this as sort of a carrot to get people to show up on time for raids since most of this is old raid content and the first one or two boss fights in the old raids; most of which we can (as primarily a 10 man guild) can 7 to 9 man. So while we're waiting for straglers, I can be all "hay guys let's go do this daily real quick mkay?". So the people who show up on time get an extra little reward for doing so. Might help with attendance problems for smaller guilds :)
dayohxc Oct 2nd 2009 3:53PM
I see this as a very good chance to let alts/hybrid classes in smaller guilds get valuable experience at their off spec whether that be tanking/healing/varied form of DPS. The content is more trivial so there's not as much on the line and it also breaks the monotony of having the same 2-3 tanks and same group of healers handle everything. Guilds can let these people challenge themselves to try something new in a raid setting, so they have a much more experienced and smarter backup in case there is a missing healer or a tank who is taking a break from raiding.
RogueJedi86 Oct 2nd 2009 4:01PM
Yo dawg, I heard you like dailies and raids, so we put dailies in yo raid so you can do dailies while you raid.
