Warcraft movie subtitled on IMDb, likely fake

Two other things to note here: back at the BlizzCon panel a few years ago, Chris Metzen did tell us that the movie wouldn't focus on Arthas anyway, so calling the movie "Rise of the Lich King" seems like it would go directly against that plan. Then again, we do know that when Sam Raimi became attached to the project, he brought his own set of ideas, so maybe he's convinced Blizzard to tell the story of Arthas yet again. Secondly, the IDMb crew page has been updated: apparently the Aaron Sims Company has been contracted to do some early character work for the movie. Unfortunately, their work is all over the map -- he's worked on Evil Dead II (great), Men in Black (pretty good), and Doom (whoops -- one of the worst videogame-based movies around). It's early though -- we do know Blizzard won't let Uwe Boll touch the movie, so hopefully they've chosen worthy talent here already.

Rise of the Lycans ring any bells?
Likely a mock and fake.
Ryan Oct 2nd 2009 4:22PM
Arthas: Rise of the Lich King is the name of book by Christie Golden.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the real title of the movie is "Warcraft: Kael'thas takes Manhattan".
Otome Oct 2nd 2009 7:24PM
Right, Kael'thas would totally do something like that.
World of Warcraft was merely a setback for him.
Templar Oct 2nd 2009 4:09PM
Agreed, likely either a mistake or fake. On the other hand, it would be interesting to see the story told for those who never played the RTS games. Which doesn't include myself, and I would likely be obliged to mock it, but that is because I'm an inconsiderate pain in the posterior at times. :)
Intriguing thought though.

I just don't get it, it's less than a rumor, and yet its "News" to post to the blog. When you post about this stuff, you simply feed the machine that makes this nonsense appear on the web in the first place.
Agony Oct 2nd 2009 7:32PM
You may want to go back and read what you just wrote.
"...post to the blog."
It's...a blog.

IMDB is very good at filtering out falsified information. That said, this could (or likely is) a working title.
Elizabeth Oct 8th 2009 1:53AM
Since when? I take inaccurate information off IMDB all the time. It's full of errors about unreleased films because it prints any rumor anybody throws at them. Most released films are pretty accurate but even then they have a lot of mistakes. Most industry professionals I know make a jokes about how often they have the wrong stuff up there.
They're a good place to start looking at things, or for casual amusement, but I'd never cite them in a research paper because they're just not a reliable source.

Is anyone else as sick of Arthas as I am?
I mean, he's a good villain by video game standards, but I really don't want to sit through two hours of Arthas plodding through snow in his omg-so-badass skull-adorned greaves.
Tek Oct 2nd 2009 4:37PM
Imo, Arthas is by far a good villian by video game standards.
"I'm here 20 feet away from you, but I'll spare your pitiful life." x 20
What villian would let their opposing enemy hold a renaissance festival in his back yard?
Seriously, any time I've seen Arthas in-game, he's being bitch slapped by the Light/Forsaken Plagues/Inner-Sense of I'm Badass So I Can Put Off Killing This One Player Who Is Constantly Gaining Strength In His Effort To Defeat Me.
Tek Oct 2nd 2009 4:40PM
Totally meant by far in a sense that I was saying he's by far not a good villian. Whoops

"What villian would let their opposing enemy hold a renaissance festival in his back yard?"
Lol. I can just picture him leaning out his window, shaking his fist and glaring disapprovingly.
One of these days he's gonna do something! I swear! The hundreds of appearances were just to make you feel comfortable for when he finally does do something. You'll see.

Well since Sam Raimi is working on Spiderman 4 before he starts with Warcraft I bet they dont even have writers yet for the film. Its probably still inthe throwing ideas around the table and seeing what sticks. So probably wont get any real news about the film until the end of 2010. Spiderman 4 is suppose to come out 2011. So get ready for a long wait. My guess we wont see it until 2012.

Or the Mayans will just buy a new calendar.

I really want to see a Warcraft movie, but please, no more Arthas, can't wait to kill the douchebag in 3.3 and be done with it.
Rhabella Oct 2nd 2009 4:28PM
"Chris Metzen did tell us that the movie wouldn't focus on Arthas anyway"
Ya, he tells of a lot of things. Can we at least admit that there’s evidence with his retcon of the Draenei to suggest he is either full of total crap or ingested enough chemicals with that nice salary of his to not actually remember everything he tells us?
I don’t disagree with your assessment, but the Metzen love when it comes to stuff like this makes me bonkers!
Bouillestfu Oct 2nd 2009 4:32PM
If the movie is anything but CG it's going to fail massively.
PeeWee Oct 2nd 2009 4:58PM
...Dolph Lundgren as Arthas.
Win.
^^
Swampthing Oct 3rd 2009 12:53PM
...and if the movie is completely CGI, it will also fail massively.
(Public just isn't ready for that yet... they still complain over things like HULK having too much CGI, and full CGI projects like the FINAL FANTASY films have utterly failed.
