Breakfast topic: Who inspired you to play what?

When it comes to other characters, though, I can usually point to someone or something else that inspired me to roll that alt. Big Red Kitty made me want to play a dwarf hunter (now level 67) with a Frostsaber Pride Watcher. This video made a tauren shaman look awesome, so now I've got one at 71. And it was World of Roguecraft, oddly enough, that made a male undead warlock (as opposed to rogue) look like it could be fun; the scene with the warlock and rogue taking a stroll around the Lordaeron ruins with the warlock's imp toddling beside him, for whatever reason, sold it for me. When I look around my list of alts, for each I can name something or someone who just made that particular race/class combination look cool. Who or what inspired you to play the races and classes you're playing right now?

for meh it was a gnome warlock inspired by my neighbor who i kind of looked up to at the time but i was such a n00b that i was a melee warlock for the first 20 lvls and when i wasnt wasting my time lvling i was trying to get money once b/c came out i decided to roll a belf hunter the reason being was the warlocks younger brother who i looked up to even more at the time was a nelf hunter but i switched to horde because one of my friends on the same realm as the warlock and hunter wer on. So now i play a lvl 80 raiding hunter now the only reason why i am a lvl 80 raiding hunter is because of BRK (BIG-RED-KITTY) i would prob be lvl 40 if wasnt intrduced to his blog and after following his blog a ran into a lil site named wowinsider.com

I only play race/classes that are needed on my realm, or they are not popular.
you will NEVER see me roll a Blood Elf, or a Paladin. And you can guarantee I wont be the one playing a Worgen or Goblin,
Hypocritically, my main is a Human, but it IS a priest, I plan on race changing it to a Dwarf, which is what my Warrior, Hunter and Rogue is. On my Horde side I only play Orcs and Trolls, because such an iconic horde race shouldn't be the least played, right?
Leigh Oct 3rd 2009 8:33AM
Agreed, I always find it strange that the orcs are so underplayed. Most of my Horde toons are orcs.
rawrawrawr Oct 3rd 2009 9:08AM
My main is an Orc Warlock, for the same reason; the horde was originally orcs and trolls, plus, Orcs were the original Warlocks.

I am such a geek (redundant as I am replying to a thread about a videogame) but Kaz the Minotaur led me to my Tauren Warrior main, and who is the only 80 ive managed. And I named him after a steak.

I feel you on only having one 80. Just this week, after 2 years of playing, I have two characters level-capped at the same time. Oddly enough, my first level 80 was not my level 70 in BC. My main is now a Draenei Death Knight [insert Death Knoob comment here]. The idea of a Draenei falling into the Lich King's grasp was immediately an intriguing story line for me. Being of a race that is viewed as such a noble and honorable group within the lore, then becoming something so evil, and then having a chance to redeem himself by setting out to kill the Lich King makes him really fun to play... more so than it would have been for let's say... an Undead Death Knight

I find forsaken Death knights are the most interesting to play, as they are no stranger to the chill of the grave, they live to kill the lich king yet they were taken over by him, it's like the draenai being possessed by an eredar overlord. It doesn't seem like some strange occurance its more fuel for the hatred, if anyone has the right to kill Arthas its a forsaken death knight (main characters not included i.e.: tirion).
The person that inspired me to make my death knight (even though i made a spriest first i always planned to be a death knight) was in part arthas but more the death knights of warcraft 2, which are probably closer to warlocks if you compared them nowadays. They were always my favorite orc unit to spam. The idea of a fresh death knight who is bitter and indifferent to the feeling of death feels very purposeful and cold. They seem very like when arthas was hunting malganis, a mercenary who will stop at nothing to get his own personal vendetta. These are such reasons why i like Maiev who is the reason i enjoy rolling rogues and hunters (as she reminds me of one or the other).

I rolled my priest because the guys I was playing with wanted a healer, but I ended up levelling shadow and I've never turned back! Any other class I've played hasn't come close to my priest!
I've always loved paladins, I rolled one and levelled it quite quickly, but gave up at various points, but Hobbs has inspired me to not only level him to 80, but to enjoy my characters and really make the most of them!

I knew from past video games that I wanted to be a class that could do anything and everything, but I ended up playing every other class before I realized that druids fit that description. Now that I have my night elf druid, I find it difficult and limiting to play other classes. The only alt I ever seriously leveled was my shaman, since druids are jacks-of-all-trades-masters-of-one-thing-at-a-time, and shamans are jacks-of-all-trade-masters-of-none (or at least there were, but my enhancement shammy is pretty awesome at melee). I tried a paladin, but leveling a paly is just so boring. Gah, I'm rambling. To conclude, it wass really the jack-of-all-trades archetype that made me roll a druid.

My first toon I decided to stick with something basic so I went warrior, what's more basic than whacking things with a sword and board? For my 2nd toon I wanted to try to copy a lore character, so I was a night elf hunter, like Tyrande i thought. I find out later no, she's a priest, which I ended up rolling one later. I also rolled a blonde female human mage like Jaina.
I got over the copying lore characters idea, and decided to make one of every class and most of the races (or at least starting areas). so I went
Tauren druid
Undead warlock
human paladin
gnome rogue
NE priest
Dreaenai Shaman
When DKs became available, I went troll.

Clearly the pope inspired me to roll a priest.
ZakuraX Oct 3rd 2009 8:30AM
He inspired me to roll a warlock alt. Funny how things goes
Elwoods Oct 3rd 2009 10:19AM
My baby priest was named Elpapa (sadly now deleted for yet another alt)

lolrp. Back in pre-BC I played a Orc Warrior, well I took a hatius all though BC because I had a very busy life. I came back when warth came out to play with my friends on a different server. So instead of spending money I did not have I rolled a DK name after my Orc; I just kinda went on in my head that he died in the old Naxxarmas and the Lich King took his soul.

Sir Ferahgo and Sir Rubix inspired me to roll druid back in the day. Way back. Raise your hand if you remember them.

my first mage - my love for mages off previous game
my druid - laylas who made switching between tanking and dps so easy - and 2nd fight i saw him on as tank waited for his DoT stack to drop off and battleressed his healer while the other tank had the boss - made a druid the next day
my hunter - wildebeast - made his silly high dps and fun pets look nice :)

My first main was my nelfen druid and I've adored him ever since. Whilst the first 20 levels were a hassle for me, once I got catform and got my solo asswhoopery in action I loved it. A friend I worked with who also played encouraged me to stick through until cat form when I started to teeter off around 15 and started to suffer from severe altitis. Originally I liked the idea of warlocks, but the inability to heal yourself and do 90% of things on your own turned me away from it. However I have always loved trolls as I find their in-game history to be the most interesting of all the races, so after Cataclysm I can honestly say that I'll have a tough decision whether to pay to change him to a troll druid, or if I'll simply reroll to see the redone 'old world' zones.
Eternauta Oct 3rd 2009 11:51AM
I'd do the second. The "old world content" is the most exciting part for me.
Just a suggestion.

I had a lvl 70 female human rogue when I saw my first 70 dwarf female rogue. I fell in love. Now I have 3 80's, 76, 65, all female dwarves. I can't wait for the Cataclysm to hit, so I can make a dwarf female mage / shaman. They're just so cute!
