Breakfast topic: Who inspired you to play what?

When it comes to other characters, though, I can usually point to someone or something else that inspired me to roll that alt. Big Red Kitty made me want to play a dwarf hunter (now level 67) with a Frostsaber Pride Watcher. This video made a tauren shaman look awesome, so now I've got one at 71. And it was World of Roguecraft, oddly enough, that made a male undead warlock (as opposed to rogue) look like it could be fun; the scene with the warlock and rogue taking a stroll around the Lordaeron ruins with the warlock's imp toddling beside him, for whatever reason, sold it for me. When I look around my list of alts, for each I can name something or someone who just made that particular race/class combination look cool. Who or what inspired you to play the races and classes you're playing right now?

There is no such thing as a female dwarf. There are just dwarfs with and without beard

And there are no male blood elves, just... well, female blood elves. Not enough difference to tell, really.

YAY! Another Female Dwarf SISTA! :) It is all I will ever play except for a worgen druid because I've wanted a druid for SOOooo long.

My frist toon was a hunter which my boyfriend at the time said I'd like cos they have pets, and I like pets... right? When I discovered that druid could become animals I beat him over the head. Sif want to have a pet when I could be a real kitty! But I levelled my hunter anyway, got her to 80. Then I saw a tree druid running around jumping and hotting and looking like they were having so much fun. So I had to have one of my own! I started levelling her when Uld came out, and my druid is now my main, and was geared enough to be a core raider in my guild by the time TOC came out. :D Druids are awesome.

Allison Robert inspired me to make a Tauren Feral Druid. Long before I started playing WoW, Penny Arcade linked to the Shifting Perspectives article about an army of birds on Dark Iron. The idea of turning into a bird while the rest of the Horde rode around on those ugly cat-bat-scorpion things (the basis for old Tauren cat form) interested me enough to make me look around Shifting Perspectives, and the realization that the class allowed me to turn into a bear left me hopelessly in love.

Im ashamed to say, that every single alt ive made in the past few months has been dreanei. Its not because I like them better than any other race, or that their racials are extremely appealing to me. Its not even that I particulary love their mounts or casting animations.
Its just that little blue grunty looks awesome next to a big blue dreanei.

That guy in the BC cinematic made me play a Draenei Paladin. He. Kicked. Ass.

As ass-kissing as this might sound, Christian Belt inspired me to make an arcane Mage.
...what?
Squelchy Oct 3rd 2009 10:07AM
Seconded. Although, I haven't made the Mage he inspired *yet*--I'm waiting for the Worgen.
Kemikalkadet Oct 3rd 2009 11:05AM
My mage was inspired by this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiyG3s5XjNU
The mage column here has definitely inspired me to keep playing it and make it my "2nd main" though.

christian didn't inspire me to be a mage — that honor goes to tolkien and every other literary and cinematic mage out there, from gandalf to ulrich to merlin and all the others. christian (and the other magey bloggers—gnomeageddon, i'm looking at you) inspire me to keep on keeping on.

@Frank That is the reason I rolled a mage and the reason I still play him. I have been reading fantasy since I was 10 or so (now 40) and I love the idea of being a caster.
That having been said, I rolled a pally alt, because our GM is a Holy/Prot rock star. He and I (with my mage) two man all sorts of old world content. We farmed the first four guys in AQ40 over and over for the mounts. I had never seen anything as OP as him. Now I have a little level 30 pally following in his footsteps.

I rolled Rogue because I met one with a really funny name on my Shaman in VoA, who I later found out was my friend's college roommate. Funny how things work out. Now I wouldn't leave my rogue for anything.

Back in 2004, a friend I knew for a long time (and who I had a crush on *i know her IRL*) just had one of her friends die in a horrible car crash. Her friend had just started on a druid b4 he passed away, so I told her I'd level her druid for him as a rememberance to her. Now I play a hunter and everytime I see a feral kitty I always rember him.

I first made a human warrior, but I didn't like the haircut or the name. While in Westfall, I saw a Paladin with the barbarian haircut and figured I had to make a Paladin with the same haircut.
Kristin Oct 3rd 2009 8:54AM
I'm sneaky and mean and prefer to exist without gaining too much attention. I immediately went rogue (human, because the looks of other things freaked me out), didn't even ponder. I also have an 80 druid (I so wanted to be a kitty) and a paladin that's on the way there (rolled one because my brother was like "OMFG THIS IS AWESOME" about his), but I absolutely cannot imagine ever considering my rogue to be an alt.

Like Allison, my very first toon was a female Tauren Druid. Probably a year before I started playing, I tried out a free trial, and concluded from information on Blizzard's site that Druids sounded the most interesting. I couldn't tell you why it was a Tauren. I didn't know anything about Warcraft lore; I'd never even heard of the Tauren before. I just liked them.
That said, that trial was played for maybe two afternoons, and my first character is lost on some other account on some unknown server, probably around level 6.
When I started up again, I rolled an Undead Mage. I couldn't tell you why I chose a Mage, but I do distinctly remember reading about the water elemental and knowing that I would be an frost mage.
Now, as for my main, a Draenei shaman. For the Alliance half, it was fairly simple. The friend who recruited me into WoW also got two of our friends to join. The original idea was that he would reroll Horde on another server and we'd all play together. What actually happened was that me and one of our friends was playing on this new server, while the recruiter had gone back to his server to play his druid and the other friend had fallen in love with a nelf hunter there. Eventually it became clear that the Horde server was a lost cause, so I ended up rolling a toon (what I thought would be an alt) on my friends' Alliance server. As for Shaman, everything I had read about them since I started researching WoW had made them sound incredible, and I just had to give one a shot.
As for my Warrior, that was all Rossi. I followed his stuff religiously from Totem Talk, and I ended up reading The Care and Feeding of Warriors just as much, even though I didn't have one. Eventually I decided enough was enough and rolled one.

Ghostcrawler inspired me to roll a pony.

Way way way back when I was a wee nublit, I was all confused about all the classes and races, and asked my friend what I should play. I will hate her forever for suggesting Night Elf Hunter, which I only got up to around level 10. Anyway, not far into it, I decided to switch over and become a healer, a Dwarf Priest, which I thought was really neat...
But that was just the beginning... As I got up to around level 18 or so, I managed to wander my way over to Westfall.
There I saw something... Something that would change my destiny in WoW forever.
A Tauren running around dancing in Sentinel Hill.
It was so big, and I was like amazed, cause it was like, 5 times the size of me. I knew I had to play one. And so for like the past 4 years, I've been playing a Tauren. The size, the power. I couldn't play anything else.

"It was so big, and I was like amazed, cause it was like, 5 times the size of me."
That's what she said.
