Breakfast topic: Who inspired you to play what?

When it comes to other characters, though, I can usually point to someone or something else that inspired me to roll that alt. Big Red Kitty made me want to play a dwarf hunter (now level 67) with a Frostsaber Pride Watcher. This video made a tauren shaman look awesome, so now I've got one at 71. And it was World of Roguecraft, oddly enough, that made a male undead warlock (as opposed to rogue) look like it could be fun; the scene with the warlock and rogue taking a stroll around the Lordaeron ruins with the warlock's imp toddling beside him, for whatever reason, sold it for me. When I look around my list of alts, for each I can name something or someone who just made that particular race/class combination look cool. Who or what inspired you to play the races and classes you're playing right now?

Oh, this one's easy, and I've mentioned it more than once on my blog.
Mages never had any appeal to me, until I stumbled on Critical QQ. After reading Euripedes for a while and checking out his awesome (and hilarious) leveling guides, I rolled a troll mage alt. I really assumed he would make it to the Barrens and be abandoned, like most of my alts. Instead, he quickly became my new main, and even led me to a place I never thought I would go - arena.
Last night, my second mage hit 80. What? Don't look at me like that, I needed one on each faction. =P

I don't think I have ever actually registered, but I have visited it, and I see that Gnomer has included me in the links.

I have always gone with the class that i thought might be fun, but truly Big Red Kitty made me love my hunter.
And the current hunter community keeps me loving it (even though no one makes it as fun as BRK did)

I loved the World of Roguecraft videos. I rewatched them a while ago and I never realised just how bad some of the people he PvP'd against were, we're talking real keyboard turners here.
More often than not watching a PvP movie will make me want to roll/play a class, the open world PvP videos of Happyminti (sp) were great for making me want to dust off my rogue.
Also have to mention Vurtne, his incredible PvP movies were the reason I fell in love with Mages.

I took a ''permanent'' break at the end of TBC, but when WOTLK came out i HAD to play a DK - it''s my main now and i love it

Well originally I played a warlock cuz I wanted to be evil. After figuring out that casters were boring, I wanted to level a greedy rogue (I'm getting there).
The first person that inspired me to roll an alt however would have to be former wow.com writer, BRK. He weaved such a welcoming thread around hunters that I just HAD to try them out. Needless to say I was so grateful he brought me into such a world. While I haven't actually finished leveling yet, whenever I do it's a lot of complex fun. Shine on BRK!
Secondly I rolled a warrior, inspired by my former guild leader. After hearing his intense discussions about the warrior class I was lured in once again to my altaholic ways. It's tiresome at times, but I'll make my way up with him eventually I suppose. Either way I'm glad I rolled it, and thanks Xseamaf!
I guess my final inspiration to make an alt would have to be my school friend's Death Knight. I really wanted to make a character on his server, so I decided to give it a whirl by going with a character as same as his. Unfortunately he transferred before I even hit 70 so I can't play with him, but it was my first Alliance 80 and I felt proud even if I did cheat. Finally I've overcome my Death Knight-a-phobia. Good push Harry!

My husband made me play a hunter when I first started. Then I realized he didn't know how to play the game and traded my dwarf hunter in for a resto shaman.

When I first started playing WOW, a good friend had a druid as her main and seemed to enjoy it quite a bit, so I decided I'd roll one and see how I liked it. The druid is obviously my main now. I have a rogue I've been spending a lot of time on lately that was made as part of a "leveling group" with some friends -- a paladin, a priest, a hunter, a mage, and a rogue (mine). But as they hurried to level up I decided to focus on leveling my druid instead, so, more than a year later, my rogue is finally getting her long-overdue attention.
The announcement of Tauren paladins has encouraged me to give Pallies another try, once Cataclysm hits. It remains to be seen whether I'll switch my main from the druid -- Swift Flight form spoils me so hard! -- to either the rogue (I have to admit, hybrids seem to just appeal to me more than pure classes) or the planned paladin.

Female Tauren Shaman, Enhancement
Before I played WoW, I played WCIII, so the shaman seemed like an interesting class. What appealed to me is that the shaman shared a couple of moves from 5 Orc units (Shaman, Spirit Walker, Witch Doctor, Shadow Hunter, Far Seer). I read up a little on WoW shamans and the totem mechanics really interested me, and although they're inspired by the Witch Doctor's and Shadow Hunter's wards, their iteration in WoW seem more tauren inspired. Not to mention their role as a mediator of the elements (I'm a sucker for that stuff) and you can see why I rolled shammy.
Add to that the fact that I love noble cow people (Cairne was awesome), and that a male tauren is too big and beefy (no pun intended), and you've got your female Tauren shaman.
In short, I guess you could say Thrall for class, Cairne for race.

Actually, my old MUD character inspired me to play my first main. I wanted to recreate him somewhat, and a night elf hunter was the closest thing to a half-elf ranger that WoW had at the time, so that's what i rolled.

I came to WoW trial thinking I'll play an alliance paladin - because of some promo art I've seen, of a paladin with those golden gryphon-headed shoulders. I didn't like dwarves, so I rolled a human. I found paladin immensely boring, smashing docile wolves with their stupid wooden hammer and having to re-cast seals after every judgement (yea, it's long ago), but I liked my character design, so I rerolled it as a mage. Eventually I subscribed, I got that mage to level 70, got bored instantly (a "ohmygodlevel70nomoretohingstodo!" moment) and started a character of every class there is in the game, except priest (made two hunters, thus didn't have a free slot for a priest). By now a half of them is nearly 80, other half is past level 30, but I love them all equally.
Yea, yea, I never said it's gonna be a fun story. :P

My brother had just started playing WoW at the beginning of BC and convinced me to join him. We wanted to level together and not knowing anything about the world I concluded I had to play the same race as him so we could see each other and group up.
He was a NElf Rogue, and i looked through all the classes and their abilities and such, and one thing in the text just stood out and slapped me in the face. If I were a Hunter I could have a pet to fight with me! That sealed the deal for me and I rolled it on the spot. My hunter has always been my main and always will be. There is something about playing that class mechanic that I just absolutely love.
Shout-Out to Rufus, EdLover and all my pets. I Love you guys :)

One of the comics on the official site got me to play a troll, actually, because out of my sister and I, I'm generally considered the occasionally not-too-bright one. So when we were looking at all the comics [and the one with the troll and the Int-buff joke comes along], my sister just said, 'oh yeah, that's you.'
And I named him after the robot chicken skit, 'Rick Shaw', except it's spelled 'Rikkshaw'.

I was inspired to play when my wife's cousin was staying for us for the week of our wedding. he had been playing vanilla wow for some time and had a 60 tauren druid, loaded with epics. He knew I played rpg's and was very familiar with D&D so he asked to install wow on my computer. For whatever reason it installed but he could never log in. However he planted the seed in my head. About a year later my wife was out Christmas shopping with her mother and I downloaded the trial. I decided I wasn't sure I was going to like it or group frequently so I rolled a class that seemed like it could take hits while being self sufficient...a pally.
Three years later, I have an 80 human pally, an 80 nelf druid, a tauren shaman on the way up to 80 and a host of other alts that clog my login screen. My wife (who had no rp/fantasy experience other then the LOTR movies) now plays and my mother and step-father now play. All with 80's of their own!

Ok, well I started playing WOW and was a NE Hunter for a little bit. Mostly because I didn't know any better. When my friends found out I was FINALLY playing, they told me to re-roll horde. So I did. My first serious toon was a BE Rogue. Arcane torrent seemed pretty cool at the time and an instant 30 energy was pretty hot for burst DPS along with the added silence. Or so I thought. The guild I was in was in need of tanks so I helped lvl the guild leaders undead warrior and saw how badly he played. Ugh!!! He couldn't hold aggro on anything and if there was more than one mob it was over before it began. So I rolled a BE Paladin and haven't looked back since.
PS: Faceroll goes left to right for a Belf Pally.
